Is the 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe a good car?

The 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe earns a 7.33/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.

It fits your needs well if you want a practical family crossover with a distinctive look, a thoughtfully crafted interior, and useful everyday storage. The 2026 model also adds a new transmission, added safety features, and minor equipment and packaging updates, which helps it feel more polished.

The trade-offs are clear: its design is polarizing, fuel economy is poor, and the third row is cramped. The XRT version also trades efficiency for off-road capability, so it makes the most sense only if you plan to use that extra hardware.

With 42.0% of listings priced as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop carefully.

Is the 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe reliable?

The 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe is presented as a strong value with an outstanding warranty and roadside assistance coverage, plus complimentary lifetime Bluelink+ connected services for original owners. Its standard turbocharged engine and new automatic transmission are described as smooth and unobtrusive, which supports a low-drama daily driving experience.

Hyundai also builds in practical dependability touches through its connected-services package, including automatic collision notification, SOS emergency assistance, safe teen driver settings, and alerts if children or pets are left inside. The Santa Fe’s safety equipment is broad, and the available Highway Driving Assist setup can operate for extended periods with only a light touch.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the poor fuel economy and cramped third row may make the vehicle less satisfying over time if those compromises matter to you.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.3% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report, verify service records, and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one that may have seen rough use. Focus on overall condition, tire wear, and whether the vehicle’s equipment matches the trim you expect.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes SE, SEL, XRT, Limited, and Calligraphy. The base trims use a 4.2-inch center display in the gauge cluster, while Limited and Calligraphy get a larger 12.3-inch display. The XRT adds a more rugged look, blacked-out appearance, and all-terrain tires.
• Powertrain: A standard 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder makes 277 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. Front-wheel drive is standard, all-wheel drive is optional on most trims, and the XRT gets standard all-wheel drive, a raised suspension, all-terrain tires, and off-road drive modes.
• Safety package: Hyundai includes a long list of standard safety features, including junction turning detection, front and rear parking sensors, and safe-exit assist. On higher trims, standard adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist operate as Highway Driving Assist, and a driver-attention monitor is included.
• Infotainment: The Santa Fe uses a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and standard tech includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, and Bluelink+ connected services. Limited and Calligraphy add a larger 12.3-inch display on the driver side, and a Bose premium audio system is standard from the Limited trim upward.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard turbocharged engine is rated at 23 mpg combined for other AWD models and 21 mpg combined for the XRT. The XRT also returned 21.7 mpg on a flat loop and 18.6 mpg on a mountainous route.

Which 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe trim should I buy?

The 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe is offered in 5 trim levels: SE, SEL, XRT, Limited, and Calligraphy.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point if you want the Santa Fe’s core space, standard turbo power, and broad safety equipment without paying for extras. It makes sense if you mainly want the family-friendly basics.
• SEL: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more equipment while staying below the higher-priced luxury-oriented versions. If you want a balanced mix of features and price, start here.
• XRT: Choose this if you want the rugged look, standard all-wheel drive, all-terrain tires, a lifted suspension, and off-road drive modes. It’s the right pick if you actually plan to use the extra capability.
• Limited: This trim is the move if you want the richer tech setup, including the larger driver display and the standard Bose audio system. It’s the better choice if comfort and cabin polish matter more than price.
• Calligraphy: Pick this if you want the most upscale version of the Santa Fe lineup and are willing to pay for it. It’s the top-end choice for shoppers who want the most premium feel.

Higher trims include Highway Driving Assist, while the XRT gets the off-road-focused safety and capability setup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe?

The market looks favorable if you’re shopping now, with a healthy share of discounted listings and strong clean-inventory availability.

• Deal availability: 42.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,847 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 94.3% of listings are accident-free.

Is the 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe safe?

The 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star individual scores for frontal and side crashworthiness and four stars for rollover resistance. It also earns a 2026 Top Safety Pick+ award from IIHS.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Hyundai equips the Santa Fe with a long list of standard safety features, including junction turning detection, front and rear parking sensors, and safe-exit assist. On higher trim levels, standard adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist operate as Highway Driving Assist, and a driver-attention monitor is included to help keep tabs on the driver.

One caveat is that navigation-based speed and curve control for adaptive cruise control can slow the vehicle too much, which may make it feel less natural in traffic.

Should I buy a 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 42.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.3% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• It adds a new transmission, added safety features, and minor equipment and packaging updates.

Consider the 2025 if:

• It emphasizes bold styling and a longer wheelbase with more interior space.

The bottom line: If you want the most polished version of this generation, the 2026 is the better target because it adds meaningful updates and sits in a favorable market. If you’re mainly chasing value and can find a well-kept 2025 at the right price, that year still makes sense for price-sensitive buyers.
