Is the 2026 Honda Pilot a good car?

The 2026 Honda Pilot earns a 7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

It stays true to its role as a midsize three-row crossover SUV with a family-first focus, and it stands out with clever features that make it feel more distinctive than many other three-row SUVs. The cabin is comfortable, and you get plenty of cargo space as well as plenty of passenger space, which makes it well suited to everyday family duty.

The main trade-off is the lack of a hybrid option, so if you want a more fuel-efficient version, you will need to look elsewhere. Another drawback is that fuel efficiency trails some rivals that offer hybrid powertrains.

With 33.5% of listings priced as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 Honda Pilot reliable?

The 2026 Honda Pilot is described as fundamentally unchanged from the previous model year, which supports the expectation that it should behave consistently for used buyers. Its single-powertrain setup also keeps the ownership experience straightforward, and the V6 is described as confident and more reassuring than a four-cylinder engine.

The powertrain is presented as adequate for merging and passing without much planning, and the steering revisions for 2026 are aimed at improving stability and feedback. The cabin and controls are also framed as easy to live with, which usually helps long-term satisfaction.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that you are still committing to a gasoline-only midsize SUV without the efficiency cushion of a hybrid.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Honda Pilot?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.5% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are comparing multiple trims or higher-mileage examples. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the features you want are present on the specific trim you are considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Sport and EX-L are the entry points, and the base Sport misses some equipment that appears on higher trims, including automatic braking at low speeds and parking proximity sensors.
• Powertrain: Every Pilot uses the same 3.5-liter V6 with 285 horsepower and a 10-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard on the Sport and EX-L, while all-wheel drive is standard on the other trims.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, a driver-attention monitor, a traffic sign reader, and automatic high-beam headlights. All but the base Sport also get automatic braking at low speeds and parking proximity sensors.
• Infotainment: Every trim gets a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 10.2-inch digital instrument panel, wireless Apple CarPlay, and wireless Android Auto. A wireless phone charger requires the EX-L trim.
• Fuel efficiency: The Pilot is estimated at up to 22 mpg combined with front-wheel drive, with 19 mpg city and 27 mpg highway. With all-wheel drive, it drops to 21 mpg combined, with 19 mpg city and 25 mpg highway.

Which 2026 Honda Pilot trim should I buy?

The 2026 Honda Pilot is offered in 6 trim levels: Sport, EX-L, TrailSport, Touring, Elite, Black Edition.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, but it is also the most stripped-down version. You get the core Pilot formula and standard safety tech, but you give up some convenience features that appear higher up the range.
• EX-L: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers. It adds the kind of comfort and convenience equipment that makes the Pilot easier to live with, and it is the trim to target if you want a well-rounded family SUV without stretching too far.
• TrailSport: Choose this if you want the Pilot’s more rugged side. It is the outlier in the lineup for its decent off-road abilities.
• Touring: This trim adds a panoramic sunroof, premium audio, and a hands-free power liftgate, but the price jump is harder to justify unless you specifically want those upgrades.
• Elite: This is for shoppers who want a more upscale Pilot experience and are willing to pay for it.
• Black Edition: This sits at the top of the lineup and brings the most premium presentation.

All trims include Honda Sensing, while all but the base Sport also get automatic braking at low speeds and parking proximity sensors.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Honda Pilot?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,036 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 91.5% of listings are accident-free.

Is the 2026 Honda Pilot safe?

The 2026 Honda Pilot was not rated by NHTSA or IIHS at the time of writing, but the 2025 Pilot received an overall rating of five out of five stars from NHTSA and was named a Top Safety Pick by IIHS.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

All Pilot trims come with Honda Sensing, which includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, a driver-attention monitor, a traffic sign reader, and automatic high-beam headlights. All but the base Sport model also get automatic braking at low speeds and parking proximity sensors.

The forward collision warning can be a bit too sensitive, and lane-departure warning can also be sensitive if you do not track the lane markings closely.

Should I buy a 2026 Honda Pilot or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 33.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.5% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Clever features help the Pilot stand out from other three-row SUVs.

Consider the 2025 if:

• It is roomy, practical, and easy to live with.

The bottom line: Choose the 2026 if you want the updated look, larger screens, and the same family-friendly Pilot formula. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2025 remains a sensible alternative because it keeps the core strengths and may cost less on the used market.
