New & Used 2026 Chevrolet Trax for Sale nearNew York, NY

Is the 2026 Chevrolet Trax a good car?

The 2026 Chevrolet Trax earns a 7.7/10 expert rating, and it fits best if you want an affordable small crossover that blends compact-car manners with SUV practicality. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Technology.

It stands out as Chevrolet’s cheapest new car in the United States, and the overview frames it as a value-focused replacement for compact sedans and hatchbacks in Chevy’s lineup. The expert review also calls it pleasant to drive and notes impressive infotainment technology, which lines up with the strong category scores for style and tech.

The main trade-offs are that all-wheel drive is not available and advanced safety features are not standard. It also has poor safety ratings so far, which matters if safety is a top priority for you.

With 38.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market gives you a decent number of value-oriented options to consider.

Is the 2026 Chevrolet Trax reliable?

The 2026 Chevrolet Trax is positioned as a simple, conventional small crossover with a 1.2-liter turbocharged engine, a six-speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive, which keeps the mechanical formula straightforward. The expert review describes the engine as eager off the line and says it doesn’t feel overstressed, with no discernible turbo lag.

Chevrolet also pairs it with a conventional automatic instead of a CVT, which helps drivability and avoids some of the hesitation you can feel in continuously variable transmissions. On the ownership side, the Trax comes with a three-year, 36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and a five-year, 60,000-mile powertrain warranty.

For used buyers, the long-term risk is less about complexity and more about whether you’re comfortable with a budget-oriented model that has limited safety strength and some feature gaps unless you move up the trim ladder.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Chevrolet Trax?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the report carefully, because a clean history is especially important on a value-priced crossover where condition can vary a lot from one listing to the next. Prioritize a close inspection of the cabin, electronics, and driver-assistance equipment, since the Trax’s appeal depends heavily on its tech and trim content. If you’re comparing multiple examples, focus on whether the features you want are standard or bundled into higher trims.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: LS models are the most basic, with 17-inch steel wheels, cloth upholstery, an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and a four-speaker audio system. Higher trims add larger wheels, nicer interior materials, and more upscale presentation, while the RS and Activ versions bring distinct styling details.
• Powertrain: Every Trax uses a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine with 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic and front-wheel drive. No other engine or all-wheel-drive setup is offered.
• Safety package: Standard driver-assist features include automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, automatic high beams, and a following distance indicator. Adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and rear park assist are available on higher trim levels in option packages for some lower trims.
• Infotainment: LS models get an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, while higher trims upgrade to an 11-inch touchscreen, an all-digital 8-inch instrument cluster, and a six-speaker sound system. Rear-seat USB charging ports are standard on all but the LS.
• Fuel efficiency: The Trax is EPA-rated at 29 mpg combined, with 28 mpg city and 31 mpg highway.

Which 2026 Chevrolet Trax trim should I buy?

The 2026 Chevrolet Trax is offered in 5 trim levels: LS, 1RS, LT, 2RS, and Activ.

Here's the short version:

• LS: This is the entry point and the value play if you want the lowest price and can live with the most basic cabin and audio setup. It still gives you wireless smartphone integration and the core safety tech, but it’s the trim where you feel the most cost-cutting.
• 1RS: This is the first step up if you want a little more style without jumping too far in price. It adds the RS look and alloy wheels, and it’s a sensible middle ground if you care about appearance and still want to keep spending in check.
• LT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the bigger 11-inch touchscreen, the digital instrument cluster, and a more polished interior feel without pushing into the highest-priced versions.
• 2RS: Choose this if you want the RS appearance with the larger wheel and feature set, and you’re willing to pay more for the sportier look.
• Activ: This is the trim to pick if you want the most distinctive styling, with black-painted wheels, a black grille with chrome accents, and unique bumpers that give it a more rugged appearance.

Higher trims are where you’ll find more of the available driver-assistance features, so if safety tech matters to you, it’s worth checking package content carefully before you buy.

Is the 2026 Chevrolet Trax safe?

The 2026 Chevrolet Trax earns a Poor rating in IIHS moderate overlap front crash testing and a Good rating in the small overlap front test.

It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driver-assist features include automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, automatic high beams, and a following distance indicator. Adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and rear park assist are available on higher trim levels in option packages for some of the lower trim levels.

Chevrolet also includes Teen Driver monitoring, which lets parents monitor driving behavior and activates available safety features. The big caution for you is that the current safety picture is incomplete and the published results so far are not strong.

Should I buy a 2026 Chevrolet Trax or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 38.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• The 2026 update is limited to two new exterior colors, so you’re mainly shopping the same value-focused Trax formula with the latest model-year badge.

The bottom line: If you want the newest Trax available and you’re focused on price, the 2026 makes sense because it keeps the same core strengths while staying affordable. If you’re especially price-sensitive, a nearby model year may be worth a look since the changes for 2026 are minimal.
