Is the 2026 Acura MDX a good car?

The 2026 Acura MDX earns a 7.7/10 expert rating and is positioned as a stylish, comfortable, and easy-to-use three-row crossover SUV. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Technology.

It is aimed at you if you want a premium family vehicle that still feels polished and approachable in everyday driving. The MDX’s strengths are its attractive design, quiet and quality-feeling cabin, and accessible tech, while the main trade-offs are a cramped third row and poor fuel economy. It also leans more toward on-road comfort and handling than off-road use, which fits its role as a midsize luxury crossover rather than an adventure-focused SUV.

Good and great deals account for 38.5% of listings, which suggests there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 Acura MDX reliable?

The 2026 Acura MDX is described as a reliable vehicle intended for on-road use, with a comfortable, quiet demeanor and a solid, structurally robust feel. Its V6 powertrain is presented as responsive and well-mannered, and the transmission and brakes are described as easy to live with in daily driving.

Acura also frames the MDX as a quality-focused luxury SUV with accessible technology and a refined driving experience, which supports its reputation as a sensible long-term choice in this class. The maintenance and ownership picture is helped by the model’s straightforward gas powertrain and the brand’s emphasis on durability and everyday usability.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that poor fuel economy can make it more expensive to live with over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Acura MDX?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.4% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage example or one with optional equipment. Focus on cabin condition, technology operation, and evidence of careful use, since the MDX’s appeal depends heavily on its premium feel and user-friendly features.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base and Technology Package models come standard with front-wheel drive, while higher trims add more upscale styling and features; the A-Spec and A-Spec Advance bring blacked-out exterior treatment and bolder interior materials, and the Type S Advance adds a more powerful turbocharged engine.
• Powertrain: Most models use a 3.5-liter V6 with 290 horsepower and a 10-speed automatic transmission, while SH-AWD adds torque vectoring and improves towing capacity; the Type S uses a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 with 355 hp.
• Safety package: AcuraWatch includes forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, and adaptive cruise control with traffic-jam assist. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high-beam headlights are also standard, while parking sensors with low-speed braking are on most models and a surround-view camera is offered on more expensive variants.
• Infotainment: A 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system pairs with a 12.3-inch digital instrument display, and wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, Amazon Alexa Built-in, and Google Built-in are included. A Bang & Olufsen sound system is standard on every version except the base model.
• Fuel efficiency: The official EPA fuel economy estimate is 21 mpg combined, and the test vehicle returned 17.9 mpg on one evaluation loop and 19.2 mpg over 160 miles.

Which 2026 Acura MDX trim should I buy?

The 2026 Acura MDX is offered in 6 trim levels: base, Technology, A-Spec, Advance, A-Spec Advance, and Type S Advance.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core MDX experience with the standard V6, the 12.3-inch infotainment system, and AcuraWatch. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the lineup, but it is the least richly equipped version.
• Technology: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more equipment while staying close to the MDX’s core strengths. It is a smart pick if you want a more upscale feel without moving too far up the price ladder.
• A-Spec: Choose this if you want the MDX to look sportier, with blacked-out exterior trim and bolder interior treatments. It is more about style than mechanical change.
• Advance: This trim is aimed at buyers who want a more luxurious, comfort-focused MDX with more premium features. It suits you if refinement matters more than appearance tweaks.
• A-Spec Advance: This combines the A-Spec’s styling with the Advance trim’s upscale equipment, making it the most expressive non-Type S choice. It is a good fit if you want both visual flair and a richer cabin.
• Type S Advance: This is the performance-oriented choice, with a twin-turbocharged engine and other upgrades for improved performance. Pick it only if you want the strongest driving character in the lineup.

AcuraWatch is standard across the lineup, while parking sensors with low-speed braking are on most models and a surround-view camera is reserved for more expensive variants.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Acura MDX?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 38.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,095 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 95.4% of listings are accident-free.

Is the 2026 Acura MDX safe?

The 2026 Acura MDX earns an overall five-star rating from NHTSA for FWD models, and the nearly identical 2025 model was an IIHS Top Safety Pick.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

AcuraWatch bundles the MDX’s driver aids, including forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, and adaptive cruise control with traffic-jam assist. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high-beam headlights are also standard, while parking sensors with low-speed braking are on most models and a surround-view camera is available on more expensive variants.

One caveat is that the lane-departure warning can trigger steering-wheel wobble, and lane-centering assist can cycle on and off in some situations. Even so, the system is described as refined and accurate overall.

Should I buy a 2026 Acura MDX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 38.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.4% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• The 2026 MDX remains a stylish, comfortable, and easy-to-use three-row luxury SUV with only minor updates.

Consider the 2025 if:

• The refreshed 2025 MDX emphasizes simplicity, sophistication, and refinement.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2026 if you want the latest version of Acura’s polished, comfort-first luxury SUV and are comfortable with its fuel-economy trade-offs. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2025 is worth a close look because it delivers the same basic appeal with a refreshed formula and may offer a better value proposition.

How does the 2026 Acura MDX compare to the 2026 Honda Pilot?

Expert Pros & Cons (per CarGurus review team)

2026 Acura MDX:

• Pros: Stylish design, Comfortable, Easy-to-use technology.
• Cons: Cramped third row, Poor fuel economy, No hybrid option.

2026 Honda Pilot:

• Pros: Comfortable, Plenty of cargo space, Plenty of passenger space.
• Cons: No hybrid option.

Our experts score the 2026 Acura MDX 7.7/10 and the 2026 Honda Pilot 7/10. The MDX is the better pick if you want a more stylish, premium-feeling SUV with easier-to-use technology. The Pilot makes more sense if you care more about space for people and cargo. Both lack a hybrid option, so neither solves the efficiency concern.
