Is the 2026 Acura MDX a good car?

The 2026 Acura MDX earns a 7.7/10 from our experts. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Technology.

It comes across as a polished three-row luxury SUV that emphasizes stylish design, a comfortable cabin, and easy-to-use technology. The MDX is also framed as a good-value choice among midsize three-row rivals, which helps it stand out if you want premium feel without giving up everyday drivability.

The main trade-offs are clear: the third row is cramped, fuel economy is poor, and there’s no hybrid option. It also leans more toward on-road comfort and handling than off-road use, so it fits you best if you want a refined family SUV for paved-road driving rather than adventure duty.

Good and great deals account for 34.4% of listings, which suggests there’s still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2026 Acura MDX reliable?

The 2026 Acura MDX is described as a reliable vehicle that feels solid, quiet, and well put together. Its on-road tuning is aimed at comfort and everyday use, and the powertrain is presented as responsive and well-behaved in normal driving.

The V6 is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, and the MDX’s dual-piston shocks are said to filter minor road vibration and impacts while reducing unwanted body motions. Acura also positions the MDX as a refined, quality-focused SUV, which supports the case for long-term ownership confidence.

AcuraWatch is refined and accurate in use, and the MDX’s standard maintenance and driving experience are presented as straightforward rather than complicated. For used buyers, the biggest long-term ownership risk is that poor fuel economy and the lack of a hybrid option can make it less appealing over time if efficiency matters to you.

What should I look for when buying a used 2026 Acura MDX?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with optional equipment. Focus on cabin condition, technology operation, and whether the vehicle has the features you want, since trim and package content vary meaningfully.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base and Technology Package models come standard with front-wheel drive, while A-Spec and A-Spec Advance add blacked-out wheels, exterior trim, and bolder interior treatments; the base model also misses some premium audio equipment.
• Powertrain: Most models use a 3.5-liter V6 with 290 horsepower and a 10-speed automatic, while SH-AWD improves handling and raises towing capacity compared with front-wheel-drive models.
• Safety package: AcuraWatch includes forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, and adaptive cruise control with traffic-jam assist; blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high-beam headlights are also standard.
• Infotainment: The cabin centers on a 12.3-inch touchscreen with a 12.3-inch digital display, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, and Google Built-in; a head-up display is available.
• Fuel efficiency: The official EPA fuel economy estimate is 21 mpg combined, and real-world testing returned 17.9 mpg on one loop and 19.2 mpg over a longer stretch.

Which 2026 Acura MDX trim should I buy?

The 2026 Acura MDX is offered in 6 trim levels: base, Technology, A-Spec, Advance, A-Spec Advance, and Type S Advance.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the MDX’s core comfort, technology, and utility without paying for appearance or luxury upgrades.
• Technology: This is the best-value trim if you want a stronger mix of equipment and everyday usability, especially since it adds more premium content while staying close to the core MDX formula.
• A-Spec: Choose this if you want the sportier look, blacked-out exterior trim, and bolder interior treatment without moving all the way up the range.
• Advance: This is the comfort-leaning choice if you want a more upscale feel and more premium equipment.
• A-Spec Advance: This is the most balanced upscale pick if you want the A-Spec styling plus the richer equipment of the Advance side.
• Type S Advance: Pick this only if you want the performance-oriented version with the more powerful turbocharged engine and related upgrades.

AcuraWatch is standard, while parking sensors with low-speed braking are included on most models and a surround-view camera system is reserved for the more expensive variants.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2026 Acura MDX?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

• Deal availability: 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,080 listings available.
• Clean inventory: 95.7% of listings are accident-free.

Is the 2026 Acura MDX safe?

The 2026 Acura MDX earns an overall rating of five stars from NHTSA for FWD models, and the nearly identical 2025 model was an IIHS Top Safety Pick.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

AcuraWatch bundles forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, and adaptive cruise control with traffic-jam assist. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high-beam headlights are also standard, while parking sensors with low-speed braking are included on most models and a surround-view camera system is offered on more expensive variants.

One caveat is that crash-test ratings for the 2026 model are incomplete, so you should pay attention to the exact drivetrain and equipment on any used example you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2026 Acura MDX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2026 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2026 if:

• 34.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• It keeps the refreshed MDX formula focused on comfort, style, and easy-to-use technology.

Consider the 2025 if:

• The refreshed model brings a simpler, more polished cabin and user-friendly tech.

The bottom line: If you want the latest version of the MDX’s polished design and straightforward technology, the 2026 is the cleaner pick. If you’re shopping mainly on price and want a similar overall experience, the 2025 is worth a close look.
