The 2025 Volvo XC90 earns an 8.3/10 expert rating.

With 31.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2025 Volvo XC90 reliable?

The 2025 Volvo XC90 is presented as a polished, safety-focused SUV with a reputation built on strong design and substance. Its standard powertrains are described as user-friendly, and the B5 and B6 are framed as the more hassle-free choices because you do not need to manage charging to avoid fuel-economy drawbacks.

The performance notes also point to a smoother, more comfortable driving experience thanks to the updated suspension tuning and Frequency Selective Damping. On the cost side, the B5 and B6 avoid the extra ownership complexity that comes with the plug-in hybrid, while the T8 requires regular charging to deliver its fuel-saving benefit.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that higher-spec or plug-in versions can bring more complexity and potentially higher running costs than the simpler mild-hybrid setup.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Volvo XC90?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage or higher-trim example. Focus on overall condition, service records, and whether the equipment level matches what you expect for the price. If you are shopping a plug-in hybrid, make sure the charging setup and battery-related usage fit your routine.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Core, Plus, and Ultra each bring different equipment levels, and the base setup leaves out some of the more upscale touches that show up higher in the lineup.
• Powertrain: The XC90 offers mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, with the mild-hybrid options being the more user-friendly, hassle-free choices.
• Safety package: Standard driver assistance includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping aid, lane-departure warning, and the blind-spot information system, plus active collision-avoidance features such as intersection auto brake and large animal detection.
• Infotainment: The touchscreen is larger, sharper, and uses a new user interface with Google Built-In and standard Apple CarPlay, including wireless and USB-C connectivity.
• Fuel efficiency: The B5 is described as the effective base option with improved fuel economy, and the T8 plug-in hybrid offers up to 33 miles of pure-electric range and up to 27 mpg when charged and used appropriately.

Which 2025 Volvo XC90 trim should I buy?

The 2025 Volvo XC90 is offered in 3 trim levels: Core, Plus, and Ultra.

Here's the short version:

• Core: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the XC90’s style, safety focus, and standard tech without paying for the more upscale extras.
• Plus: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more premium touches while staying below the top-end pricing of Ultra.
• Ultra: Choose this if you want the most upscale XC90 experience, including the head-up display and the available premium audio setup.

The standard safety package includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping aid, lane-departure warning, and blind-spot monitoring, with additional collision-avoidance features also included.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Volvo XC90?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

• Deal availability: 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,831 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.49% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 94.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $51,104, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Volvo XC90's resale value?

The current average of $51,104 sits slightly below last year's $55,847.

That price movement suggests the XC90 has softened enough to help used buyers, but it also means a future seller may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy well now, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation pressure later. The strongest resale prospects will likely come from well-kept examples with desirable equipment and clean history.

Is the 2025 Volvo XC90 safe?

The 2025 Volvo XC90 is too new to have been crash-tested by independent safety organizations, but its predecessors as well as the automaker itself have established quite the reputation.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard advanced driver-assistance systems operate smoothly and include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping aid, lane-departure warning, and the blind-spot information system. It also includes active collision-avoidance features such as intersection auto brake and large animal detection. What it does not offer is a hands-free highway-driving system, so if that feature matters to you, you will need to look elsewhere.

Should I buy a 2025 Volvo XC90 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.49% compared with last year.
• The 2025 brings a second substantial refresh with updated styling, materials, and feature offerings.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $44,856, the 2024 costs less than the current year's $51,104 average.
• It remains appealing with beautiful styling and a plug-in hybrid option.

The bottom line: If you want the freshest version of the XC90 with updated design and features, the 2025 is the better pick. If your priority is saving money and you are comfortable with the older version’s strengths, the 2024 is the more budget-friendly path.
