Why it stands out
The 2025 Toyota 4Runner stands out in the crowded midsize SUV market due to its blend of rugged off-road capabilities and modern technology. The 4Runner maintains its reputation as a reliable all-terrain vehicle while offering a more composed ride on pavement, making it suitable for daily driving as well as adventurous outings. Reviewed a 2025 Toyota SR5 4WD on Apr 5, 2025
In love with this car, I think the car is fantastic value. Of course, with this being a new drivetrain time will tell if reliability lives up to the previous gens. Outside of that consideration the car is an absolute blast and I love the new 4 cylinder turbo. It feels very dialed in and the power is great, the car just wants to take off and it feels genuinely quick. I just switched from a 2018 F-150 and the suspension was a massive upgrade, the car feels planted and rugged but still soft enough on the bumps you’re comfortable driving. Very impressed with the safety features and tech with this being a base model. The car will let me know via the app when I’ve left something in the backseat or left a window open of door unlocked! As well the screen despite being the “small” screen is still a great size and has the same features as the larger one. The seats are cloth and I love the fabric, design, and feel of them. My car has the grey seats and the look genuinely solid. The interior has a lot of plastic as is to be expected but the design is sleek and looks very premium. Despite the interior having a decent amount of plastic components it feels very well constructed and all of the functions and pieces, whether shifting the car into a different drive mode, open and closing the door, temperature controls, etc. have a very nice feel to it. The speakers are phenomenal, the bass is genuinely crazy and the sound quality is crisp, you would find it hard to believe this is the cheaper sound system! From what my salesman was telling me even the 8 speaker bass system are JBL speakers and while I haven’t verified by reading up on it, the performance of it seems to match for sure! The capability, cargo space, and even leg room in the back are great as well for a car its size and class. As well it feels nimble to drive, has a great turning radius and just looks fantastic. I took the air dam off of mine (that big plastic lip hanging off the front bumper) it took 5 minutes and could be accomplished with a Phillips head or common 10mm socket. If that hanging off the front makes you apprehensive of the new look it’s very easy to remove and the difference is night and day! Fair warning it caused a slight hit to mpg, usually less than 1 mpg from what I’ve heard but I haven’t confirmed myself but it frees up a whole 5 1/2 inches of ground clearance in the front so if you plan to take it off road definitely worth removing. Overall I’m in love with this car and highly recommend it if you’re in the market for a capable off road suv. If reliability holds up as well as previous models as much as I love Ford I would have a very hard time switching back from Toyota!!

Yes — the 2025 Toyota 4Runner earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating.
The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Form and function, and Cost effectiveness.
It stands out as a rugged midsize SUV with modern technology, a new hybrid powertrain, and a design that balances heritage cues with contemporary styling. It also remains focused on off-road use, while the cabin aims for comfort and practicality.
One trade-off is rear-seat space, which may be limited for taller passengers. Another is that the Trailhunter’s snorkel can add wind noise on road trips.

Is the 2025 Toyota 4Runner reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2025 4Runner is presented as a rugged, reliable off-roader with Toyota’s reputation for durability behind it. The expert review also emphasizes that the new generation keeps the model’s core strengths while adding more power, comfort, and technology.
Its standard four-cylinder turbo is described as more powerful than the previous V6, and the hybrid adds stronger low-speed usable power. The review also notes that the new 4Runner is quieter inside and more composed on pavement than the previous generation.
Toyota’s first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house, which helps reduce early ownership costs.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the vehicle’s off-road use and maintenance history match the condition you see in person.
What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Toyota 4Runner?
Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has seen trail use. Focus on underbody condition, tire wear, suspension components, and any signs of hard off-road driving or cosmetic damage.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The lineup ranges from more basic, hard-wearing versions to trims with a more refined cabin and better materials. Base models are more utilitarian, with plenty of hard plastic and fewer comfort touches.
- Powertrain: Entry-level trims use a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 317 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque, while the hybrid adds 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. The standard engine is estimated at 20 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined, while the hybrid is estimated at 23/24/23.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard and includes frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, a traffic sign reader, automatic high beams, and Proactive Driving Assist. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts is optional.
- Infotainment: An 8-inch touchscreen is standard on supporting trims, while a 14-inch screen is available. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are offered, along with a wireless charging pad and a digital instrument panel on Hybrid variants.
- Fuel efficiency: The standard four-cylinder is estimated at 20 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined. The hybrid is estimated at 23/24/23.
Which 2025 Toyota 4Runner trim should I buy?
The 2025 Toyota 4Runner is offered in 9 trim levels: SR5, TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, Trailhunter, and other trims explicitly referenced in the model information.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The SR5 is the entry point, and it’s the one most likely to leave you without the richer tech and off-road hardware found higher up the range.
- Sweet-spot trim: A mid-range TRD Off-Road model is the best value if you want serious capability without jumping to the most expensive adventure-focused versions.
- Premium/top trim: The TRD Pro and Trailhunter bring the most impressive off-road hardware, and they’re the trims to target if you want the fullest adventure setup.
- Off-road trim: The Trailhunter is the one to think twice about if you do mostly daily driving, since its snorkel can add wind noise on road trips.
Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard across the lineup, while blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts remains optional.

What is the 2025 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?
The current average of $52,360 sits slightly below last year's $55,259.
That softer pricing can help you buy in at a more favorable point, but it also means future resale will depend heavily on how well the truck is maintained and equipped. Higher-demand trims and clean-condition examples should hold up better than rougher, heavily used vehicles.
Strong owner satisfaction can support demand when you eventually sell. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2025 Toyota 4Runner safe?
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
As of this writing, crash test results are not yet available from either NHTSA or IIHS.
Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard and includes frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, a traffic sign reader, automatic high beams, and Proactive Driving Assist. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts is optional.
The main caveat is that Proactive Driving Assist could feel too intrusive for some drivers, though it can be disabled. For used buyers, that means you should test the driver-assistance behavior on your own route before deciding.
Should I buy a 2025 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2025 if:
- 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is excellent at 94.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 5.25% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It brings a new hybrid powertrain, more power, and a more modern cabin.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $46,471, the 2024 costs less than the current year's $52,360 average.
- It remains an accomplished off-road-capable SUV with a strong reputation for reliability and durability.
The bottom line: If you want the newest 4Runner with more power, better tech, and a more refined driving experience, the 2025 is the better target. If your priority is spending less up front and you’re comfortable with an older-generation truck, the 2024 is the value play.
