Is the 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid a good car?

The 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid earns an 7/10 expert rating and is presented as a more efficient version of Subaru’s rugged compact SUV.

The standout strength is Safety at 8/10.

It pairs efficiency with more power and a few extra features, and the overview also points to strong comfort and capability for challenging conditions. The trade-offs are fairly pedestrian performance and a firm ride quality, so you should expect a practical, capable SUV rather than something especially quick or plush.

The market also looks reasonably supportive, with 32.9% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid reliable?

The 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid is framed as a practical, durable compact SUV that leans into Subaru’s reputation for handling challenging conditions.

Its hybrid system is described as well-sorted, with smooth transitions between electric and gas power and consistent brake feel. The off-road hardware also suggests a robust setup for buyers who plan to use the vehicle beyond paved roads.

You also get a fuel-saving hybrid system that is designed to reduce running costs, and the model’s standard all-wheel drive adds to its everyday confidence. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a more complex hybrid drivetrain can be costlier to keep in top shape than a simpler gas-only SUV if maintenance is neglected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report, verify service records, and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example. Focus on overall condition, tire wear, brake feel, and whether the cabin and controls show signs of hard use, since those details matter most on a practical SUV like this.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The hybrid adds a more cohesive redesign, a large vertical infotainment screen, and a digital instrument panel that is exclusive to the Hybrid model. The top Touring trim adds ventilated front seats, heated outboard rear seats, and a contrasting black roof is only offered there.
• Powertrain: All models use a 2.5-liter boxer engine with a hybrid system and a 1.1-kWh lithium-ion battery pack, producing 194 horsepower. Standard all-wheel drive and the hybrid’s driveshaft-based rear-wheel connection are part of what helps it feel especially confident off pavement.
• Safety package: Subaru’s EyeSight suite is standard and includes frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, rear automatic braking, and automatic high beams. A driver attention monitor is included on the top Touring trim.
• Infotainment: You get an 11.6-inch vertical touchscreen with built-in navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a WiFi hotspot. The system also supports X-Mode controls and multiple camera views for low-speed off-road use.
• Fuel efficiency: The hybrid is estimated at up to 35 mpg in the city, 34 mpg on the highway, and 35 mpg combined. The EPA also says owners can save $300 per year in fuel costs.

Which 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid trim should I buy?

The 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid is offered in 1 trim level: Premium.

Here's the short version:

The Premium is the trim to focus on because it gives you the hybrid powertrain, standard all-wheel drive, the 11.6-inch touchscreen, and the full EyeSight safety suite without requiring you to move up the range. If you want the best value, this is the one to start with.

The top Touring trim adds more comfort and convenience features, including ventilated front seats, heated outboard rear seats, and a driver attention monitor, but the content points to the Premium as the core buy for shoppers who want the hybrid’s main advantages at the lowest entry point.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

• Deal availability: 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 554 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.60% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 95.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $35,816, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid's resale value?

The current average of $35,845 sits slightly below last year's $37,971.

That price movement suggests the model has softened enough to help used buyers today, but it also means a future seller may not be able to count on strong short-term appreciation. If you buy well now, you’re starting from a more favorable price base than a year ago.

For resale, the key is to keep the vehicle in clean condition and maintain service records, because a practical hybrid SUV like this should appeal most to shoppers who value capability, efficiency, and everyday usability. A well-kept example should remain easier to move than one with visible wear or a questionable history.

Is the 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid safe?

The 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid earns five-star ratings in every NHTSA evaluation except rollover protection, where it earned a four-star rating.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Subaru’s EyeSight suite is standard, and it includes frontal collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, rear automatic braking, and automatic high beams. A driver attention monitor is included on the top Touring trim.

The safety story is strong overall, but the rollover result is the one rating that sits below the rest of the NHTSA scores. Even so, the standard driver-assistance package is broad, and the system behavior described in testing was smooth and free of major glitches.

Should I buy a 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.60% compared with last year.
• The expert verdict describes it as a more efficient version of Subaru's rugged and evergreen compact SUV.

The bottom line: If you want the redesigned Forester with hybrid efficiency, standard all-wheel drive, and strong safety equipment, the 2025 is the one to target. If your priority is simply the lowest possible purchase price, a different year may be worth comparing, but the 2025 gives you a compelling mix of capability, efficiency, and current-market value.
