How much does the 2025 Mercedes-Benz S-Class cost?

Prices have softened 8.59% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 541 listings available, which gives you a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2025 Mercedes-Benz S-Class a good car?

Yes — the 2025 Mercedes-Benz S-Class earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

It’s built around comfort, performance, technology, and refinement, and it stays current for 2025 with small updates like standard digital key functionality and a center airbag. The cabin is defined by premium materials and a broad enough range of powertrain choices that you can tailor the car to your priorities, provided your budget is there.

The main trade-offs are practical: it does not offer much cargo space, and the capacitive touch controls can be frustrating.

32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2025 Mercedes-Benz S-Class reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The S-Class is positioned as a flagship luxury sedan with a strong emphasis on comfort, refinement, and advanced technology, and the expert evaluation describes it as delivering the kind of driving experience expected of a top-tier luxury vehicle. Its powertrains are smooth and well integrated, and the cabin is described as quiet and well built.

The plug-in hybrid setup is especially polished, with the electric motor and gas engine working together seamlessly. The efficiency-focused plug-in hybrid also offers an estimated 48 miles of electric range and 23 mpg in combined driving once the battery is depleted.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about basic competence and more about complexity, since this is a highly advanced luxury sedan with expensive systems and a lot of equipment to maintain.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report, verify service records, and prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially on a car this complex and expensive to own. Focus on the condition of the electronics, the touch controls, the suspension, and any optional equipment that could be costly to repair.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin emphasizes premium materials, but the dashboard layout and digital displays are a mixed bag, and the base setup does not include the rear-seat amenities that come with the higher trim.
• Powertrain: The lineup includes a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six, a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8, a plug-in hybrid version with a 22.7-kWh battery pack, and an AMG plug-in hybrid with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 and electric motor. The plug-in hybrid is the efficiency leader, with an estimated 48 miles of electric range and 23 mpg combined once the battery is depleted.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, automated lane-change assist, evasive steering assistance, automatic reverse braking, a semi-automated parking system, and a surround-view camera system. The higher trim adds rear-seat side and seatbelt airbags.
• Infotainment: Every model gets a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, a 12.8-inch infotainment touchscreen, native navigation with augmented reality video overlays, voice recognition, and a Burmester surround-sound system. The higher trim adds a rear-seat tablet, voice controls, a wireless charging pad, and rear entertainment screens.
• Fuel efficiency: The plug-in hybrid is rated at 23 mpg combined once the battery is depleted, the base six-cylinder returns 24 mpg combined, and the V8 is rated at 20 mpg combined.

Which 2025 Mercedes-Benz S-Class trim should I buy?

The 2025 Mercedes-Benz S-Class is offered in 4 trim levels: S 500, S 580, S 580e, AMG S 63 E Performance.

Here's the short version:

• S 500: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core S-Class experience with the turbocharged inline-six, standard all-wheel drive, and the full suite of luxury tech. It’s the most sensible starting point if you want the badge and the comfort without stretching to the pricier variants.
• S 580: This trim upgrades you to the twin-turbo V8, which adds more power while keeping the same luxury mission intact. If you want stronger performance without jumping to the plug-in hybrid or AMG model, this is the straightforward step up.
• S 580e: This is the best-value choice if you want the broadest mix of performance and efficiency. It combines the base six-cylinder with an electric motor, delivers more power than the V8, and is the lineup’s efficiency leader with 48 miles of electric range and 23 mpg combined once the battery is depleted.
• AMG S 63 E Performance: This is the performance flagship, with a plug-in hybrid V8 setup that produces 791 hp and 1,055 lb-ft of torque. Choose it if you want the most extreme acceleration and don’t mind paying for it.

The Pinnacle trim adds rear-seat amenities and rear-seat side and seatbelt airbags, so it’s the one to target if rear-passenger comfort and added safety matter most.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 541 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.59% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 95.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $123,653, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Mercedes-Benz S-Class's resale value?

The current average of $124,319 sits slightly below last year's $136,006.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may pressure future resale if you overpay today. If you buy near the lower end of the current range, you give yourself a better chance of limiting depreciation exposure later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2025 Mercedes-Benz S-Class safe?

It earns no published crash-test rating from either IIHS or NHTSA for this generation.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard advanced safety features include forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, automated lane-change assist, evasive steering assistance, automatic reverse braking, a semi-automated parking system, and a surround-view camera system. The Pinnacle trim adds rear-seat side and seatbelt airbags.

The expert evaluation notes that these systems worked flawlessly during testing, and the adaptive cruise control is described as excellent. The main safety caveat is that crash-test results have not been published for this generation.

Should I buy a 2025 Mercedes-Benz S-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 32.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 95% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.59% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2025 update adds newly standard digital key functionality and a center airbag, while also widening availability of the AMG Line trim package.

The bottom line: If you want the freshest version of this flagship sedan, the 2025 is the cleanest choice because it adds useful standard equipment without changing the S-Class formula. If you’re more price-sensitive, a nearby model year can still make sense, but the 2025’s softer pricing and strong inventory make it the better starting point for shoppers who want the latest updates.
