Is the 2025 Honda Civic Type R a good car?

The 2025 Honda Civic Type R stands out because it turns the familiar Civic formula into a serious front-wheel-drive performance car. Honda’s hot hatch has been refined over more than 25 years of development, and this version is described as the most accomplished yet. It keeps the manual-transmission tradition alive, which is a big part of its appeal for enthusiasts, and it pairs that with a polished chassis, sharp styling, and the kind of hardware buyers expect from a focused driver’s car.

Under the hood is a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder VTEC engine that makes 315 hp and 310 lb ft of torque. The drivetrain remains front-wheel drive with a six-speed manual gearbox, and the car also uses a limited-slip differential, rev-matching, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, adaptive dampers, and Brembo four-piston front brake calipers. Fuel economy is listed at 22 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined, which is respectable for a car with this level of performance.

The 2025 Civic Type R also brings a more modern interior than its predecessor, with a nine-inch touchscreen, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless charging pad, cruise control, and a 12-speaker Bose audio system. The bright red sports seats remain a signature touch, though they will not suit everyone. On the downside, the car is expensive for a Civic, and some interior trim still shows its budget roots. Even so, its blend of capability, usability, and durability makes it one of the most appealing performance cars in its class.

With 36.6% of listings priced as good or great deals, you have a meaningful share of the market to shop from if you want value as well as performance.

For a used buyer, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the basic formula and more about how hard the car was driven and maintained before you buy it.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 Honda Civic Type R?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.4% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and verify that the car’s past matches the seller’s description. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been modified, tracked, or driven aggressively. Focus on wear items, curb rash, tire condition, brake condition, and signs that the cabin or drivetrain has seen harder use than the mileage suggests.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2025 Honda Civic Type R?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 303 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 91.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $45,975, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2025 Honda Civic Type R's resale value?

The current average of $47,471 sits slightly below last year's $47,565.

That small decline suggests the market has been stable rather than volatile, which is helpful if you plan to sell later. You are not looking at a steep drop that would signal weak demand, but you also should not expect the car to appreciate just because it is desirable. For a future seller, the best resale outcome will likely come from keeping the car clean, documented, and as close to stock as possible.

Should I buy a 2025 Honda Civic Type R or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.4% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.

The bottom line: If you want the most current version of this manual performance hatch and you value a stable market with decent deal availability, the 2025 is the primary path to consider. If you are more price-sensitive, a nearby model year may give you a lower entry point while still keeping the core Type R experience intact.
