Is the 2025 BMW M5 a good car?

The 2025 BMW M5 earns an 8.5/10 expert rating.

The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, and Technology.

It is built for you if you want a sedan that can deliver extreme speed without giving up daily usability, and the plug-in hybrid setup adds an all-electric driving mode for short trips. The trade-offs are clear: the exhaust is too quiet for a performance car, and the ride can feel too harsh for a luxury sedan.

The market also looks reasonably accessible, with 35.3% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2025 BMW M5 reliable?

The 2025 BMW M5 is presented as a well-built, high-performance sedan with solid interior materials and a powertrain that combines a twin-turbo V8 with electric assistance. The expert evaluation also highlights smooth power delivery in electric driving and a generally composed driving experience in Comfort mode.

Its plug-in hybrid setup adds complexity, but the car’s standard equipment and polished execution suggest it is aimed at buyers who want performance and everyday usability in one package. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a sophisticated performance hybrid can be expensive to keep in top shape if prior maintenance has been neglected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2025 BMW M5?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 98.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and verify that the car’s condition matches its mileage and asking price. A pre-purchase inspection is especially important on a high-performance hybrid like this, since you want to confirm that the drivetrain, brakes, and electronics are all working as intended. Pay close attention to signs of hard use, since this model is built to be driven aggressively.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin features a massive single screen, iDrive controller, and customizable interior lighting, but the overall look is subjective and the piano black surfaces can show fingerprints easily.
• Powertrain: A 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 works with an electric motor and 14.8-kWh battery for a combined 717 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque, with up to 25 miles of electric driving.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane-keep assist, speed limit info, blind-spot monitoring, and Parking Assistant with backup assist and a 360-degree camera. Driving Assistant Professional adds side collision protection, adaptive cruise control, and Traffic Jam Assistant.
• Infotainment: The system uses iDrive 8.5 on a 14.9-inch center screen, with wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, Bluetooth, USB-C ports, and a wireless charging pad.
• Fuel efficiency: The source says the car can travel up to 25 miles on electric power alone, and it recorded around 14 mpg during testing.

Which 2025 BMW M5 trim should I buy?

The 2025 BMW M5 is offered in 1 trim level: M5.

Here's the short version:

The safety package is standard, and Driving Assistant Professional remains an optional upgrade if you want adaptive cruise control and Traffic Jam Assistant.

Should I buy a 2025 BMW M5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2025 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2025 if:

• 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 98.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.70% compared with last year.
• The 2025 brings the first-ever plug-in hybrid M5 powertrain and a major redesign.

Consider the 2026 if:

• It adds a more powerful onboard charger and more paint options.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2025 if you want the newest redesign and the strongest mix of performance and daily usability. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2025 also looks attractive because the market has softened and there is enough inventory to shop selectively.
