How much does the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas cost?

Prices have softened 10.68% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,689 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas a good car?

Yes — the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function, Technology, and Safety.

The Atlas is built as a three-row midsize crossover SUV aimed at buyers who want a roomy family hauler with a broad feature set. Its strongest points are practical: plenty of cargo space, a spacious third row, and standard advanced safety features. The trade-offs are just as clear, though, with fairly pedestrian performance and troublesome haptic controls standing out as the main drawbacks.

With 38.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitively priced example.

Is the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Atlas is positioned as a practical family SUV, and its 2024 updates add more standard features without changing its core mission. The available turbocharged four-cylinder is described as smooth and strong enough for highway driving, and the model’s standard maintenance coverage adds some ownership reassurance. Volkswagen includes two years or 20,000 miles of scheduled maintenance, which helps reduce early service costs.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the Atlas still prioritizes space and equipment over refinement, so condition and maintenance history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Volkswagen Atlas?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with larger wheels. Focus on cabin condition, control usability, and evidence of regular maintenance, since the Atlas’s appeal depends heavily on how well it has been kept.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SE gets 18-inch alloy wheels, while most other trims get 20-inch wheels and the SEL Premium R-Line gets 21-inch wheels with slightly sportier styling. SE with Technology models add a panoramic sunroof and ambient lighting as standard equipment, so base-trim shoppers should check for the feature gaps that matter most to you.
• Powertrain: The 2024 Atlas uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine with 269 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard front-wheel drive or optional all-wheel drive.
• Safety package: VW’s IQ.Drive package includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control. Travel Assist combines adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist for highway driving. Predictive adaptive cruise control is standard on SEL and higher trim levels, while the SEL Premium R-Line adds park assist and a surround-view camera system.
• Infotainment: A 12-inch touchscreen and 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster are standard, along with wireless phone charging and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Six USB-C ports are standard, with up to eight available, and a dash cam port is included on SE with Technology and higher trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The Atlas is rated at 23 mpg combined with front-wheel drive and 22 mpg combined with all-wheel drive. City and highway ratings are 20/27 mpg for FWD and 19/26 mpg for AWD.

Which 2024 Volkswagen Atlas trim should I buy?

The 2024 Volkswagen Atlas is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SE with Technology, SEL, and SEL Premium R-Line.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the value-focused starting point, and it already brings a lot of standard equipment, including heated steering and ventilated front seats, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the full array of driver-assist features. It’s the trim to target if you want the lowest entry price without giving up the Atlas’s core family-friendly strengths.
• SE with Technology: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, and a dash cam port while keeping the Atlas’s practical mission intact. If you want the most useful upgrades without jumping too far up the price ladder, this is the one to watch.
• SEL: This trim adds more premium convenience and safety content, including a head-up display and predictive adaptive cruise control. It suits you if you want a more upscale daily driver and are willing to pay for extra tech.
• SEL Premium R-Line: This is the top-of-the-range choice, with 21-inch wheels, sportier styling, a 12-speaker premium audio system, park assist, and a surround-view camera system. It makes sense if you want the most fully equipped Atlas and don’t mind paying for it.

The safety package is standard on SEL and higher trims, while SEL Premium R-Line adds the most advanced parking and camera features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Volkswagen Atlas?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and enough price movement to reward comparison shopping.

• Deal availability: 38.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,689 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.68% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 91.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $30,602, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas's resale value?

The current average of $31,198 sits slightly below last year's $34,929.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the good news is that the Atlas still has strong family-SUV appeal, especially because it emphasizes space and standard equipment. The downside is that softer pricing now can make it harder to recover as much value later unless your vehicle is especially clean and well maintained.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas safe?

The 2024 Volkswagen Atlas earns five-star overall ratings from NHTSA, with five-star side crash ratings and four-star frontal and rollover ratings.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

VW’s IQ.Drive package includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control. Travel Assist combines adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist for highway driving, while predictive adaptive cruise control is standard on SEL and higher trims. The SEL Premium R-Line adds park assist and a surround-view camera system.

One caveat is that IIHS ratings were not yet released for this model year at the time of publication, so you should lean on the available crash-test results and the standard driver-assistance suite when evaluating safety.

Should I buy a 2024 Volkswagen Atlas or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 38.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.68% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds more standard features and a stronger turbo-four engine.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $32,023, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $31,198 average.
• It adds standard automatic high-beam headlights and wireless charging.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2024 is the smarter buy because it combines lower pricing with more standard equipment and strong inventory availability. If you’re willing to pay a bit more for a newer model year and a few extra convenience updates, the 2025 is the cleaner alternative.
