Used 2022 Volkswagen Atlas for SaleNationwide

How much does the 2022 Volkswagen Atlas cost?

Prices have softened 14.33% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,187 listings available, which suggests solid inventory availability for shoppers comparing options.

Is the 2022 Volkswagen Atlas a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Volkswagen Atlas earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.

It stands out as a roomy, family-focused three-row SUV that puts passenger comfort, cargo space, and utility at the center of its appeal. That makes it a strong fit if you want a large SUV that prioritizes everyday usefulness over flash.

The trade-offs are clear: performance is fairly pedestrian, and the interior materials feel cheap. Fuel economy is also a weak point, so you should weigh the Atlas’s space and practicality against those compromises.

With 38.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2022 Volkswagen Atlas reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Atlas is built around practicality, comfort, and utility, and its expert evaluation reinforces that it is aimed at buyers who value space and everyday usability. Volkswagen also includes complimentary scheduled service for two years or 20,000 miles, which helps reduce early ownership costs.

Its performance and ownership experience are less convincing in some areas, especially because the drivetrain is described as lacking refinement and the fuel-economy trade-off is not ideal. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is more about living with the Atlas’s compromises than expecting major surprises.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Volkswagen Atlas?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a vehicle history report on any candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the SUV has higher mileage or visible wear. Focus on cabin condition, infotainment operation, and how the vehicle drives over rough pavement, since comfort and refinement are central to the Atlas’s appeal.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup ranges from SE to SEL Premium R-Line, and the lower trims are the ones most likely to leave you wanting more equipment. The Atlas is strongest when you move up to trims that add more standard features and a more complete safety and tech package.
• Powertrain: The standard turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder makes 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, while the available 3.6-liter V6 makes 276 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. The turbo four is more efficient, but the V6 is the better choice if you want the stronger all-around setup.
• Safety package: Front Assist, Side Assist, and Rear Traffic Alert are standard on SE, while SE with Technology adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go plus front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking. SEL models add the full IQ Drive suite, including Lane Assist, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist.
• Infotainment: The SE uses a 6.5-inch touchscreen, while other trims get an 8-inch system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, and Car-Net connected services. SEL trims add a 10.25-inch digital cluster display, and SEL Premium R-Line models get a 12-speaker Fender audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The turbocharged 2.0-liter is rated at 22 mpg to 23 mpg in combined driving, while the V6 is rated at 19 mpg to 20 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2022 Volkswagen Atlas trim should I buy?

The 2022 Volkswagen Atlas is offered in 6 trim levels: SE, SE with Technology, SEL, SEL R-Line, SEL R-Line Black, and SEL Premium R-Line.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Atlas’s core space and utility without the richer tech and convenience upgrades found higher up. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost path into the model, but it is also the trim most likely to feel basic.
• SE with Technology: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds meaningful convenience and safety upgrades without jumping all the way to the pricier trims. It is the sweet spot if you want a more complete Atlas experience.
• SEL: This trim brings the full IQ Drive safety suite, a larger digital display, and a more upscale equipment mix. It is the right pick if safety tech and a more polished cabin matter more to you than keeping the price down.
• SEL R-Line: This trim adds the V6 and a sportier appearance package, so it suits you if you want the stronger engine and a more distinctive look.
• SEL R-Line Black: This new-for-2022 trim adds the blacked-out styling treatment on top of the R-Line formula. It is mainly for shoppers who care about appearance and want the V6-equipped setup.
• SEL Premium R-Line: This is the most fully equipped version, with the most upscale presentation and the richest feature set. It is the one to choose if you want the most premium Atlas experience and are willing to pay for it.

Safety-wise, the SEL trim is the one that unlocks the full IQ Drive package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Volkswagen Atlas?

The market looks moderately favorable if you are a selective buyer.

• Deal availability: 38.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,187 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.33% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 83.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $23,675, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Volkswagen Atlas's resale value?

The current average of $23,675 sits slightly below last year's $27,636.

That decline suggests the Atlas has become more affordable for used buyers, but it also means a future seller may face a softer pricing environment than owners saw a year ago. If you buy at the current average or below, you may have less room for appreciation, but you can still benefit from the model’s broad family appeal.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Volkswagen Atlas safe?

The 2022 Atlas does not earn a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and it gets four-star ratings for the driver and front passenger in frontal-impact tests from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Front Assist includes forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, and automatic emergency braking. Side Assist is a blind-spot monitoring system, and Rear Traffic Alert adds rear cross-traffic alert. SE with Technology adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability plus front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking, while SEL trims add Lane Assist, Travel Assist, Emergency Assist, brighter LED headlights with automatic high-beam operation, and adaptive front lighting.

A key caveat is that Lane Assist can be overly sensitive to pavement scars and lane markings, which can make the system feel intrusive in some situations.

Should I buy a 2022 Volkswagen Atlas or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 38.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.33% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It carries forward the updated formula from the 2021 refresh without major changes.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $20,507, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $23,675 average.
• It is a roomy three-row crossover that emphasizes practicality and space.

The bottom line: Choose the 2022 if you want the newer market position, strong inventory, and the updated Atlas formula without major changes. If your priority is saving money, the 2021 is the better value path because it delivers the same basic space-first mission for less.
