Is the 2023 Volkswagen Atlas a good car?

The 2023 Volkswagen Atlas is a balanced choice if you want a three-row SUV that prioritizes space and everyday usability, and its user rating is 3/5. The Atlas stands out for its impressive interior room, especially in the second and third rows, along with refined driving dynamics and a clean design. It also gives you a practical cabin layout, standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and family-friendly seating and storage solutions that make it easy to live with. With 39.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a meaningful share of the market to shop from.

Is the 2023 Volkswagen Atlas reliable?

The 2023 Volkswagen Atlas benefits from the updates introduced in 2021 and 2022, including refreshed styling, larger touchscreen options, and standard Digital Cockpit across the range. It also adds an upgraded 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro system on SE with Technology models and above, which helps keep the cabin feeling current. Even so, the Atlas line has had reliability complaints in earlier years, including transmission hesitations, electrical faults, and premature interior wear, so used buyers should pay close attention to maintenance history and condition. For long-term ownership, that means you should be especially careful about signs of deferred upkeep or unresolved repair issues.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Volkswagen Atlas?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should confirm the history report matches the seller’s claims and look closely at service records, especially if the vehicle has higher mileage. Prioritize a thorough inspection of the transmission behavior, electrical systems, braking feel, and interior wear, since those areas matter most for a used Atlas. Focus on overall condition and maintenance consistency rather than just trim level or feature count.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Volkswagen Atlas?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can be choosy if you’re patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 39.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,228 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.99% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 88.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $27,535, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Volkswagen Atlas's resale value?

The current average of $27,535 sits slightly below last year's $30,254.

That price movement suggests the Atlas has softened enough to help you buy more selectively today. If you plan to sell later, the current market points to a vehicle that may not hold its peak value as strongly as it did a year ago. For you, that means resale should be part of the equation, especially if you expect to trade in within a few years.

Should I buy a 2023 Volkswagen Atlas or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 39.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.99% compared with last year.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $23,675, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $27,535 average.
• It keeps the refreshed formula with strong space and utility.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $30,377, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $27,535 average.
• It adds more standard features and a stronger turbo four-cylinder.

The 2023 is the best middle ground if you want a roomy Atlas with a softer used price than the newer model. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2022 is the value play because it delivers the same core space-first appeal for less.
