Is the 2023 Volkswagen Atlas a good car?

The 2023 Volkswagen Atlas is a balanced choice if you want a three-row midsize SUV that emphasizes space, practicality, and a more polished feel. It earns a user rating of 3/5, and its appeal centers on impressive room in the second and third rows, a clean design, and refined driving dynamics.

It also fits well if you want a family-friendly SUV with standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, available 4Motion all-wheel drive on some versions, and a cabin with plenty of storage and seating for up to seven. The 34.2% share of good or great deals gives you a decent chance to find a competitively priced listing.

Is the 2023 Volkswagen Atlas reliable?

The 2023 Volkswagen Atlas benefits from the broader updates Volkswagen made in 2021, and the model description notes that cars built from 2021 have been relatively trouble-free. It also keeps the practical strengths that make it easy to live with, including a straightforward cabin layout and family-focused usability.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that earlier Atlas models had transmission and electrical concerns, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Volkswagen Atlas?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should prioritize a history report first, then focus on a pre-purchase inspection that checks for signs of prior damage, uneven wear, and any electrical or transmission-related issues. Pay close attention to overall condition, because the Atlas’s value depends heavily on how well it has been maintained and whether it has avoided major repairs.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Volkswagen Atlas?

This looks like a moderate buyer’s market, so you can be selective without waiting forever for the perfect listing.

• Deal availability: 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,191 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.78% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 88.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $27,811, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Volkswagen Atlas's resale value?

The current average of $27,811 sits slightly below last year's $30,488.

That price movement suggests the Atlas has become more affordable for buyers, but it also means sellers may face a softer market than they did a year ago. If you plan to resell later, condition and mileage will matter even more because the market is already pricing this model year below its prior average. A well-kept example should still hold appeal thanks to its space and family-friendly layout.

Should I buy a 2023 Volkswagen Atlas or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.78% compared with last year.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $24,032, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $27,811 average.
• It emphasizes roomy, family-focused practicality.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $30,737, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $27,811 average.
• It adds more power and standard features.

The 2023 is the best middle ground if you want a newer Atlas with a softer price than the 2024 and stronger updates than the 2022. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 is the better value play; if you want the newest updates and can stretch your budget, the 2024 is the upgrade path.
