Used 2024 Volkswagen Atlas for Sale near Illinois

How much does the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas cost?

Prices have softened 10.56% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,723 listings available, which suggests you should have a solid range of choices.

Is the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas a good car?

Yes — the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function, Technology, and Safety.

It stands out as Volkswagen’s biggest vehicle, and for 2024 it gets more power, more standard features, and more lights. It remains a three-row midsize crossover SUV built specifically for the United States market, so its mission is clear: deliver space and everyday usefulness in a crowded family-SUV segment.

The trade-offs are just as clear. The expert notes call its performance fairly pedestrian, its ride quality poor, and its haptic controls troublesome.

With 44.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop carefully.

Is the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Atlas is built around practicality, with plenty of cargo space and a spacious third row, and the 2024 update adds more standard equipment. The expert notes also point to a stronger powertrain than before, with the remaining turbocharged four-cylinder making more horsepower and torque than the previous version.

Volkswagen also includes two years or 20,000 miles of scheduled maintenance, which helps reduce early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a roomy family SUV like this can still be expensive to keep in top shape if prior owners skipped maintenance or let wear accumulate.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Volkswagen Atlas?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re looking at a higher-mileage family hauler. Focus on cabin wear, tire condition, brake life, and whether the electronics and driver-assist features work as intended.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SE gets 18-inch alloy wheels, while most other trims get 20-inch wheels and the SEL Premium R-Line gets 21-inch wheels with slightly sportier styling. SE with Technology models add a panoramic sunroof and ambient lighting as standard equipment.
• Powertrain: The 2024 Atlas uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine with 269 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard front-wheel drive or optional all-wheel drive.
• Safety package: VW’s IQ.Drive package includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control. Travel Assist combines adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist for highway driving, while SEL Premium R-Line adds park assist and a surround-view camera system.
• Infotainment: A 12-inch touchscreen and 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster are standard, along with wireless phone charging and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Six USB-C ports are standard, with up to eight available, and SE with Technology and higher trims add a dash cam port.
• Fuel efficiency: The Atlas is rated at 23 mpg combined, 20 mpg city, and 27 mpg highway with front-wheel drive, or 22 mpg combined, 19 mpg city, and 26 mpg highway with all-wheel drive.

Which 2024 Volkswagen Atlas trim should I buy?

The 2024 Volkswagen Atlas is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SE with Technology, SEL, and SEL Premium R-Line.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the value play if you want the Atlas’s core strengths at the lowest entry point. It already brings a 12-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, and the full array of driver-assist features, while also adding heated steering and ventilated front seats.
• SE with Technology: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, and a dash cam port while keeping the Atlas’s practical family-SUV formula intact.
• SEL: This trim adds a head-up display and predictive adaptive cruise control, making it the better pick if you want more convenience and highway-driving tech.
• SEL Premium R-Line: This is the top choice if you want the most upscale presentation, plus park assist and a surround-view camera system.

The safety package is standard on SEL and higher trims, while the SEL Premium R-Line adds park assist and a surround-view camera system.

What is the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas's resale value?

The current average of $31,083 sits slightly below last year's $34,754.

That softer pricing can work in your favor if you’re buying now, but it also means future resale will depend heavily on how well the vehicle holds up and how desirable it remains in the used market. A lower entry price can help limit depreciation from here, especially if you buy near the low end of the range.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas safe?

The 2024 Atlas earns five-star overall safety ratings from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in side crash testing and four-star ratings in frontal and rollover tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

VW’s IQ.Drive package includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control. Travel Assist combines adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist for highway driving, and predictive adaptive cruise control is standard on SEL and higher trims.

One caveat is that IIHS ratings for the 2024 model were not yet released at publication, though the structurally similar 2023 model earned a Good score in most tests and a Marginal result in the updated moderate overlap front test.

Should I buy a 2024 Volkswagen Atlas or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 44.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.56% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2024 update adds more power, more standard features, and a refreshed look.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $31,828, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $31,083 average.
• It adds standard automatic high-beam headlights and wireless charging.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2024 is the smarter starting point because it combines lower pricing with a strong feature set and broad inventory. If you’re willing to pay more for a slightly newer model with a few added conveniences, the 2025 is worth a look; otherwise, the 2024 gives you the stronger buy for the money.
