Used 2024 Toyota 4Runner for Sale near Illinois

How much does the 2024 Toyota 4Runner cost?

Prices are up 10.49% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 3,787 listings available, which gives you a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2024 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Generally — you’re looking at a 4.2/5 user rating and a 4.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 6/10.

Owners consistently praise its spaciousness, power, and aesthetics, and they also call out the improved ride quality plus features like heated seats and blind spot monitoring. The overview frames it as a fit for you if you value toughness, cargo space, and trail ability more than modern polish. The trade-offs are clear: it trails newer rivals in technology, safety features, fuel efficiency, and power, and the driving experience is held back by poor handling and sluggish performance.

With 35.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2024 Toyota 4Runner reliable?

Owners rate it 4.2/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner summary points to a reputation for reliability, along with durability and a trouble-free ownership experience. The expert assessment also emphasizes that it has a strong reputation for reliability and durability, which reinforces the idea that this is a vehicle you can count on over the long term. The cost-effectiveness commentary does not add a maintenance perk here, but the broader message is that the 4Runner’s age and dated platform are the main ownership concern rather than a lack of dependability.

For used buyers, the biggest long-term risk is more about aging design and wear-related issues than about the core mechanical reputation.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Toyota 4Runner?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate, because accident-free listings are not the same thing as a guaranteed clean past. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on suspension wear, interior condition, and any signs of hard use, since this model is often bought for rugged duty. Pay extra attention to how the vehicle has been maintained and whether its condition matches the asking price.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The range-topping TRD Pro adds underbody skid plates, all-terrain tires, and a beefy tubular roof rack, while the interior still shows its age with old-school styling and last-generation technology. The base setup is more basic, so you should expect fewer premium touches and a more utilitarian feel.
• Powertrain: All 2024 4Runners use a 4.0-liter V6 with 270 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque. The five-speed automatic is a weak point, and most trims are rear-wheel drive with four-wheel drive available, while the TRD Pro comes standard with 4WD and a two-speed transfer case.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert. The TRD Pro and Limited trims also get a surround-view camera system, and only the Limited adds front and rear parking proximity sensors.
• Infotainment: You get a standard eight-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system is basic, and it lacks some of the off-road-specific apps and gauges found in some rivals.
• Fuel efficiency: The 4Runner is rated at 16 mpg city, 19 mpg highway, and 17 mpg combined.

Which 2024 Toyota 4Runner trim should I buy?

The 2024 Toyota 4Runner is offered in 1 trim level: SR5.

Here's the short version:

The SR5 is the trim to focus on if you want the core 4Runner formula without paying for the more specialized off-road hardware found higher up the range. It gives you the standard V6, the basic infotainment setup, and the full safety suite, so it covers the essentials for most shoppers. If you want the most capability-focused version, the TRD Pro is the standout in the broader lineup, but the trim information here points to the SR5 as the main starting point.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Toyota 4Runner?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to shop carefully and compare listings before you commit.

• Deal availability: 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,787 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 10.49% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 89.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $40,864, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?

The current average of $46,652 sits slightly above last year's $42,221.

That price movement suggests the 4Runner has held demand well, which can help support resale value if you decide to sell later. The year-over-year increase also means buyers are still willing to pay up for this model’s reputation and utility. If you keep the vehicle in strong condition and avoid accident history, you should be in a better position when it’s time to trade or sell.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.2/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Toyota 4Runner safe?

The 2024 Toyota 4Runner earns four-star ratings for overall and frontal crash protection, five-star ratings for side impacts, and three-star ratings in rollover evaluations from NHTSA. The IIHS gives it a Good rating for the original moderate frontal overlap crash test and side protection tests, but the newer small overlap frontal test includes incomplete results with Marginal and Poor outcomes.

It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.

You get adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert. The TRD Pro and Limited trims add a surround-view camera system, and only the Limited includes front and rear parking proximity sensors. The mixed crash-test results, especially the small overlap frontal concerns, are the main safety caveat to keep in mind.

Should I buy a 2024 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices are up 10.49% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.2/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It remains a rugged, reliability-focused SUV with strong cargo space and off-road ability.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $43,208, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $46,652 average.
• It adds standard blind-spot monitoring and a limited-production 40th Anniversary Special Edition.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $48,578, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $46,652 average.
• It brings a redesigned platform with more capability, power, comfort, and technology.

The bottom line: If you want the familiar rugged formula and can live with the dated feel, the 2024 is the safer buy. If price matters most, the 2023 is the value path; if you want a more modern 4Runner, the 2025 is the better long-term direction.
