Is the 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar a good car?

The 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar earns a 6.3/10 expert rating.

The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

It stands out as a luxury SUV with seating for five, a distinctive Range Rover identity, and design and comfort updates for this model year. That makes it especially appealing if you want a stylish midsize luxury SUV with a comfortable ride and a more individual look than many rivals.

The trade-offs are clear: the technology can be unintuitive, there are minor quality oversights, and the steering assist is unimpressive. Even so, the Velar’s blend of style and comfort gives it a clear identity.

With 41.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market offers a decent amount of value-oriented inventory to consider.

Is the 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar reliable?

The 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar is presented as a premium SUV with a strong comfort and design focus, but it also carries some usability and quality concerns that matter for long-term ownership.

Its performance setup is described as capable and refined, with a turbocharged engine, all-wheel drive, and multiple terrain modes that support everyday driving and more varied conditions. The expert evaluation also notes that the SUV can feel quiet and soothing on the highway, which is a good sign for regular use.

At the same time, the technology is more complex than it needs to be, and the steering assist system adds stress rather than reducing it. The cost-effectiveness commentary also suggests you should be prepared for the premium ownership experience that comes with a Range Rover.

For used buyers, that means the biggest long-term risk is not just mechanical wear, but living with a vehicle whose tech and driver-assist behavior may frustrate you over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with larger wheels and more equipment. Focus on cabin condition, tech operation, and how smoothly the SUV drives in everyday traffic, since the model’s usability issues show up most clearly there.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base S variant is the starting point, while the Dynamic SE adds a more powerful turbocharged six-cylinder engine, expensive paint and wheel upgrades, a Black Exterior Pack, and a Cold Climate Pack. The base trim is the one most likely to leave you wanting more equipment and power.
• Powertrain: The standard setup uses a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder, while the upgraded turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder with mild-hybrid technology is the stronger choice. The six-cylinder is quicker and better suited to the vehicle’s character, though it is less efficient than the four-cylinder.
• Safety package: Every 2024 Velar comes with a comprehensive collection of advanced driving assistance systems, including Adaptive Cruise Control with Steer Assist. The adaptive cruise control works well, but Steer Assist is frustrating and can add unwanted steering inputs.
• Infotainment: The Velar uses an 11.4-inch touchscreen with over-the-air software updates, Amazon Alexa compatibility, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system is more complex than before, and the small shortcut icons can be hard to read at a glance.
• Fuel efficiency: The turbo four-cylinder is rated at 23 mpg in combined driving, while the turbo six-cylinder drops to 21 mpg combined.

Which 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar trim should I buy?

The 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar is offered in 2 trim levels: S and Dynamic SE.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Velar experience with the standard design, comfort, and technology updates. It makes sense if you want the Velar’s style and identity without stretching for extras.
• Dynamic SE: This is the better-value choice if you want the more powerful turbocharged six-cylinder engine and the added equipment that came on the test vehicle. It suits you best if you want the Velar to feel more appropriate for its price and are willing to pay for the stronger powertrain.

The standard safety package includes Adaptive Cruise Control with Steer Assist, and the system’s behavior is the main safety-related trim note to keep in mind.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar?

This looks like a buyer-friendly moment if you want a used Velar, because pricing has softened and there’s enough inventory to shop carefully.

• Deal availability: 41.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 545 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.74% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 91.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $40,226, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar's resale value?

The current average of $40,311 sits slightly below last year's $46,734.

That drop suggests the Velar has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can be good news if you’re buying used. If you sell later, though, you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle’s technology and interior hold up.

The current pricing also shows that the market is still adjusting downward, so a well-priced example today may be easier to justify than one bought closer to its original new-car price. For a future seller, that means keeping the vehicle clean, well-documented, and mechanically sound will matter even more.

Is the 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar safe?

The 2024 Velar comes with a comprehensive collection of advanced driving assistance systems, and the expert evaluation says most of them work well.

It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

The Velar also has Adaptive Cruise Control with Steer Assist, which combines adaptive cruise and lane-centering assistance into a Level 2 hands-on system. The adaptive cruise control itself works well, but Steer Assist is the weak link because it can add unwanted steering inputs and struggle to track accurately through bends.

The system includes a speed-limited function that can help prevent speeding, and the optional HUD helps make it clearer when safety features are active. The main caveat is that the lane-centering assist is not especially rewarding to use, so you may prefer to leave it off.

Should I buy a 2024 Land Rover Range Rover Velar or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

• 41.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.74% compared with last year.
• This year brings design and comfort enhancements, plus several improvements to the standard infotainment system.

The bottom line: If you want the most up-to-date Velar experience, the 2024 model is the one to target because it adds meaningful design, comfort, and tech improvements while the market is also more favorable than it was a year ago. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully for a lower-priced example, but the 2024’s updates make it the better default choice.
