How much does the 2024 Land Rover Defender cost?

There are 2,010 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing trims and prices.

Is the 2024 Land Rover Defender a good car?

Yes — the 2024 Land Rover Defender earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Technology.

It stands out as a rugged-yet-refined luxury SUV with legitimate off-road ability, a premium feel, and a broad range of engines and body styles. The lineup also gives you a lot of flexibility if you want something that can handle daily driving and still look ready for adventure.

The main trade-offs are that handling is more cumbersome than most luxury SUVs and fuel economy is below average.

With 37.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitive price if you shop carefully.

Is the 2024 Land Rover Defender reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Defender’s appeal comes from its durable, adventure-ready character and its ability to combine rugged capability with a more sophisticated cabin than the original model. Its broad powertrain lineup and standard equipment also support the sense that it is built to do a lot of different jobs well.

The performance setup includes multiple engine choices, full-time active four-wheel drive, and towing capability that reaches up to 7,716 pounds when properly equipped. That breadth gives you confidence that the vehicle is engineered for demanding use.

The Defender also backs up its ownership case with a 4-year/50,000-mile limited warranty.

For used buyers, the biggest long-term risk is that its premium running costs and below-average efficiency can make ownership more expensive over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Land Rover Defender?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 92.3% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the SUV has been used for towing, off-road driving, or heavy commuting. Focus on overall condition, tire wear, and signs that the vehicle’s premium equipment has been used hard.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S trim brings 19-inch alloy wheels, power-adjustable front seats, heated front seats, partial leather upholstery, a panoramic glass roof, and a heated, power-adjustable steering wheel. It also includes remote keyless entry, satellite radio, HD radio, and a 10-speaker Meridian sound system. The X-Dynamic SE adds 20-inch wheels, distinctive styling touches, and ventilated front seats with extra power adjustments. The X adds a digital rearview mirror camera and partial Windsor leather upholstery. The Carpathian Edition emphasizes darker exterior and interior accents, while the Outbound removes the third row for more cargo space.
• Powertrain: You can find a turbocharged four-cylinder with 296 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, a mild-hybrid turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with 395 hp and 406 lb-ft, and two supercharged 5.0-liter V8s with 493 hp or 518 hp. All engines use an eight-speed automatic and full-time active four-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Standard driver-assistance features include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic sign recognition, automatic high beams, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and a 360-degree parking camera system. The lane-departure and lane-keeping assist intervention can feel overly touchy.
• Infotainment: The Defender uses a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and an 11.4-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with navigation, Bluetooth, satellite radio, HD radio, and a 10-speaker Meridian stereo system.
• Fuel efficiency: The most efficient configuration returns 18 mpg city, 22 highway, 20 combined. The base four-cylinder in the 90 returns 18 city, 21 highway, 19 combined. The 110 with the six-cylinder returns 17 city, 20 highway, 18 combined. The least efficient version returns 14 city, 19 highway, 16 combined. All engine options require premium fuel.

Which 2024 Land Rover Defender trim should I buy?

The 2024 Land Rover Defender is offered in 5 trim levels: S, X-Dynamic SE, X, Carpathian Edition, and Outbound.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the best-value starting point if you want the Defender’s core appeal without jumping too far up the price ladder. You still get a strong standard equipment list, including heated front seats, a panoramic roof, and the Meridian audio system.
• X-Dynamic SE: This trim adds 20-inch wheels, more distinctive styling, and ventilated front seats with extra power adjustments, making it a smart step up if you want more comfort and presence.
• X: This is the trim to target if you want more upscale tech and a richer cabin, thanks to the digital rearview mirror camera and partial Windsor leather upholstery.
• Carpathian Edition: Choose this if you want the most aggressive, dark-themed look in the lineup, with blacked-out exterior and interior accents.
• Outbound: This is the one to consider if cargo space matters most, since it removes the third row and keeps many of the X-Dynamic SE’s features.

The safety package is broad across the lineup, but the lane-departure and lane-keeping assist behavior can feel overly sensitive.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Land Rover Defender?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 37.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,010 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.92% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 92.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $57,984, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Land Rover Defender's resale value?

The current average of $57,984 sits slightly below last year's $68,961.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more favorably now but may also mean future resale gains are harder to count on. If you plan to sell later, the current softness could limit how much value the vehicle holds in the near term.

Even so, the Defender’s strong appeal, broad capability, and premium image should help it stay desirable with the right buyers. Well-equipped examples and clean-condition vehicles are likely to draw the most attention.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Land Rover Defender safe?

The Defender comes with an extensive list of standard driver assistance features, including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety tech also includes traffic sign recognition, automatic high beams, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and a 360-degree parking camera system. One caveat is that the lane-departure and lane-keeping assist intervention can feel too touchy in normal driving.

Should I buy a 2024 Land Rover Defender or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 37.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 92.3% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.92% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2024 model year expands V8 availability and adds new trims and features.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $51,875, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $57,984 average.
• It adds the extended Defender 130 to the lineup.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $69,363, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $57,984 average.
• It adds the high-performance OCTA.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of current pricing, inventory, and updated features, the 2024 is the best starting point. If your priority is saving money, the 2023 is the better value play, while the 2025 makes sense only if you want the newer high-performance direction and are willing to pay more.
