CarGurus Analysis: 2024 Hyundai Elantra
overall

Summary
With 6,399 currently listed for sale and an average price of $19,887, 34.2% of 2024 Hyundai Elantras for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2024 Hyundai Elantra 3 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
85.9% of 2024 Elantra models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2024 Hyundai Elantra stands out as a compact sedan that has moved well beyond the bargain-basement image Hyundai once had in this segment. According to the test-drive summary, the current seventh-generation model debuted in 2020 and helped the Elantra compete more directly with other compact sedans on substance, especially in how it drives and feels. For 2024, a mild refresh adds more style and standard equipment, and the car’s appeal is reinforced by its sporty-looking design and wider range of trim levels.
It is also notable for offering multiple powertrain options and even a manual transmission, which is uncommon enough to be a real differentiator for buyers who want more involvement. At the same time, the Elantra is not without compromises: the design may be polarizing, the base engine is described as underwhelming, and the interior materials can feel cheap. Even so, the overall impression is of a well-mannered sedan that balances comfort and economy with a genuinely entertaining driving character.

The car was a great value for the money I spent. It had plenty of features, and ultimately great MPG and price. I loved that it still has manufactuer warranty and is a certified-pre owned. I did wish it supported Hyundai's digital key, but the BlueLink is another phenomenal feature, other than having to pay every year. For other cars in this class such as the Civic, Corolla, Forte, K4, Impreza etc. It is reasonably priced, only competitive with the K4. If I wanted all of these features in one of those other vehicles especiallt the Civic I would be paying significantly more.

I live the interior and the way it drives. It feels very much my style and I can see myself driving it every day.

I was going to buy a new one except for a design I cannot live with. The passenger side grab bar is unsightly. If something falls on the floor, you wont be able to grab it at a stop light. It is located between the gear shift and the passenger side. Looks like a hospital bed rail. Pass. Drives great. Ive bought 4 Hyundais so I like them but I would rather go for an older model without the bar. Thats what I am looking for now.

The trade-offs are clear: the design can be polarizing, the base engine is underwhelming, and the interior materials can feel cheap.
If you want a sedan that can be comfortable and economical without feeling dull, the Elantra fits that brief well. If you care more about refinement than personality, you may want to compare it carefully against other compact cars.
34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2024 Hyundai Elantra reliable?
The 2024 Elantra is presented as a well-sorted compact sedan with strong value, a long warranty, and three years of maintenance included. The expert summary also describes it as properly sorted and competitive on substance, which supports a reassuring ownership picture for used buyers.
Its performance profile is broad, with multiple powertrain choices and a manual transmission available, and the expert notes that the car balances comfort, economy, and driving enjoyment. That said, the base engine is described as weak, so long-term satisfaction may depend on choosing the right trim and powertrain for your needs.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is ending up with a version that feels underpowered or less polished than you expected, especially if you prioritize highway passing power or interior quality.
What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Hyundai Elantra?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean title alone does not tell you how the car was maintained or repaired. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on body condition, interior wear, and how the drivetrain behaves on a test drive. Pay extra attention to whether the car feels as equipped as you expect, since trim differences are meaningful on this model.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SE, SEL, and Limited trims lose the lowered stance and sporty bumpers that complement the body, so the car looks cheaper without the N Line. The base SE also misses the custom gauge layouts found on upper trims.
- Powertrain: The common SE, SEL, and Limited trims use a 2.0-liter inline-four with 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque paired with a CVT. The N Line upgrades to a 1.6-liter turbo-four with 201 hp and 195 lb-ft and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, while the Elantra N uses a more powerful setup with 276 hp and 289 lb-ft.
- Safety package: The SE and N come standard with forward automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, a driver attention monitor, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and auto high beams. SEL trims with the Convenience Package and Limited trims add cyclist detection, front cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control. The Limited adds rear emergency braking, a 360-degree camera system, front and rear parking sensors, and Highway Driving Assist.
- Infotainment: The SE has an 8-inch touchscreen, while SEL-and-above trims get a 10.25-inch touchscreen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not supported, but a Wi-Fi hotspot and digital key function are available for 2024.
- Fuel efficiency: The base SE is rated at 32/41/36 mpg, the SEL and Limited at 31/40/34 mpg, the N Line at 28/35/31 mpg, and the Elantra Hybrid Blue at 51 mpg city, 58 mpg highway, and 54 mpg combined.
Which 2024 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?
The 2024 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SEL, Limited, and N Line.
Here's the short version:
- SE: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry point and still want the core Elantra experience, including the standard safety suite and strong fuel economy. It makes the most sense if you can live with the simpler screen and fewer convenience features.
- SEL: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the larger 10.25-inch touchscreen and moves the car closer to the well-equipped sweet spot without jumping too far in price.
- Limited: Choose this if you want the most comfort and tech, including the available blind-spot camera views, Highway Driving Assist, and the fullest safety and parking-assist package.
- N Line: Pick this if you want the most engaging non-N version, since it adds the turbocharged engine, quicker-shifting transmission, and a more balanced, sporty chassis feel.
The Limited trim gets the extra safety and driver-assistance features, while the SE and N come with the core standard safety suite.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Hyundai Elantra?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.
- Deal availability: 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 6,434 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.93% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 85.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $19,471, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2024 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?
The current average of $19,862 sits slightly below last year's $20,892.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy more confidently now. If you plan to sell later, the softer pricing means your resale outcome will depend heavily on trim choice, mileage, condition, and how well the car is documented.
For a future seller, the good news is that the Elantra still has broad appeal because it offers style, efficiency, and multiple powertrain choices. The caution is that a car bought at a lower market level may not leave much room for appreciation, so preserving condition will matter more than timing.
Is the 2024 Hyundai Elantra safe?
The 2024 Elantra earns a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings for the front passenger and five-star ratings for the driver and for front and rear passengers in the two side tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named it a Top Safety Pick.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
The standard safety suite includes forward automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, a driver attention monitor, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and auto high beams. SEL trims with the Convenience Package and Limited trims add cyclist detection, front cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control, while the Limited adds rear emergency braking, a 360-degree camera system, front and rear parking sensors, and Highway Driving Assist.
There are also some caveats to keep in mind: the IIHS did not perform all of its standard crash tests, rear passengers had a higher risk of injury in the newer frontal crash test, and there are no frontal knee airbags.
Should I buy a 2024 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2024 if:
- 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.93% compared with last year.
- The 2024 refresh adds more style and standard equipment.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $19,317, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $19,862 average.
- It offers a wide range of appeal in one compact sedan.
The bottom line: If you want the newer look, added equipment, and a market that has already softened, the 2024 is the better all-around target. If your priority is saving money and you can live without the refresh, the 2023 is the more price-sensitive path.
