Used 2023 Volvo XC90 for Sale nearPhoenix, AZ

How much does the 2023 Volvo XC90 cost?

Prices have softened 13.97% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,151 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing trims and conditions.

Is the 2023 Volvo XC90 a good car?

Yes — it earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

The XC90’s appeal comes through in its understated luxury, elegant interior, and stylish design. It also brings impressive technology, especially if you use Google services, and it fits buyers who want a luxury SUV that feels refined rather than flashy.

The trade-offs are limited cargo space and a third row that’s difficult to access, plus technology that can feel too touchscreen-dependent.

With 37.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have room to shop carefully without feeling rushed.

Is the 2023 Volvo XC90 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The XC90’s reliability case is helped by its strong safety reputation and its generally polished, well-engineered feel. Its mild-hybrid powertrains are designed to improve smoothness and efficiency, and the stop-start behavior is described as almost imperceptible.

Volvo’s safety tech is standard, which adds confidence for daily use and family hauling. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about living with a complex, touchscreen-heavy cabin over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Volvo XC90?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with more cabin wear. Focus on how the touchscreen-based controls work in daily use, since that’s one of the XC90’s biggest ownership compromises.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Core, Plus, and Ultimate trims differ most in equipment level, with the base trim missing some of the richer luxury touches that make the XC90 feel special.
• Powertrain: The XC90 uses B5 and B6 mild-hybrid powertrains, both based on a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine; the B5 is the efficiency-oriented choice, while the B6 adds more power.
• Safety package: Pilot Assist is standard, along with adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist, so you should verify that these systems operate properly during a test drive.
• Infotainment: The 9-inch vertical touchscreen runs Google OS, includes Google Maps, Spotify, NPR, and Google Assistant, and can be controlled through Google Home devices.
• Fuel efficiency: The mild-hybrid setup is described as offering only minimal fuel-economy gains, with improvements of just a few mpg at most.

Which 2023 Volvo XC90 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Volvo XC90 is offered in 3 trim levels: Core, Plus, Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Core: This is the entry point, and it gives you the XC90’s core luxury, safety, and Google-based tech without pushing the price too high. It makes the most sense if you want the XC90 experience at the lowest starting cost.
• Plus: This is the best-value trim because it adds more equipment while staying below the top trim’s pricing. If you want a more upscale feel without going all the way to the Ultimate, this is the one to target.
• Ultimate: This is the most fully equipped version, and it comes standard with the B6 powertrain. Choose it if you want the richest cabin presentation and don’t mind paying for it.

Pilot Assist and the rest of Volvo’s standard safety tech are included across the lineup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Volvo XC90?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 37.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,151 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.97% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 90.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $37,350, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Volvo XC90's resale value?

The current average of $37,350 sits slightly below last year's $43,413.

That price movement suggests the XC90 has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if the market stabilizes. If you buy at the current average or below, you may have less downside left than someone who bought when prices were higher. Strong condition and a clean history will matter a lot if you want to protect value later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Volvo XC90 safe?

The 2023 Volvo XC90 earns a five-star rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Volvo’s Pilot Assist system is standard, and it includes adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist. The lane-keeping system can gently nudge you back into your lane and vibrate if you drift, which adds another layer of reassurance on longer drives.

That said, the XC90’s safety story is strongest because of its broad standard equipment and excellent crash-test reputation, not because it offers the most cutting-edge driver-assistance tech in the class.

Should I buy a 2023 Volvo XC90 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 37.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.97% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It updates to B5 and B6 mild-hybrid powertrains and adds Google-based infotainment.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $28,668, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $37,350 average.
• It offers an available plug-in hybrid setup and a more eco-conscious feel.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $44,411, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $37,350 average.
• It keeps the XC90’s design-led appeal and adds a plug-in hybrid option.

The bottom line: The 2023 is the sweet spot if you want the updated mild-hybrid powertrains, strong safety, and a softer used price than newer models. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 is the better value play; if you want the newest version and don’t mind paying more, the 2024 is the step up.
