Used 2023 Volvo XC90 for Sale near North Carolina

How much does the 2023 Volvo XC90 cost?

Prices have softened 14.21% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,246 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing trims and prices.

Is the 2023 Volvo XC90 a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 5/5 user-rated SUV with an 8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

The XC90’s appeal comes through in its stylish design, beautiful interior, and impressive technology, which help it feel modern in a luxury three-row segment. It also brings a sophisticated, forward-thinking infotainment setup that fits buyers who want refinement and a premium cabin experience.

The trade-offs are cargo space that’s limited and third-row seats that are difficult to access, plus technology that can feel too touchscreen-dependent. If you want an understated luxury SUV with a polished presence and a strong tech story, the XC90 fits that brief well.

38.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Volvo XC90 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The XC90’s reliability case is helped by its refined, well-insulated driving character and its mild-hybrid powertrains, which are described as smoother in operation. The performance notes also point to a reserved but enjoyable driving experience, with quick acceleration, a well-behaved automatic transmission, and strong brakes.

Volvo’s mild-hybrid setup also supports smoother stop-start behavior, which can make daily driving feel less intrusive. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the XC90’s touchscreen-heavy controls may become a daily annoyance if you prefer more physical controls.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Volvo XC90?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with lots of family-duty use. Pay close attention to cabin condition, third-row access wear, and whether the touchscreen-heavy controls feel intuitive enough for your routine.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Core, Plus, and Ultimate trims differ in equipment, with the cabin and tech presentation becoming more upscale as you move up. The base trim still reflects the XC90’s minimalist approach, so make sure the features you want are included before you commit.
• Powertrain: The XC90 uses B5 and B6 mild-hybrid powertrains for 2023. The B5 makes 247 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, while the B6 makes 295 horsepower and 310 pound-feet.
• Safety package: Pilot Assist is standard, along with adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist. The system is designed to help maintain distance and keep you centered, but you should verify that the features you want are included on the trim you’re shopping.
• Infotainment: The XC90 uses a 9-inch vertically oriented touchscreen with Google OS, Google Maps, Spotify, NPR, and Google Assistant built in. It also supports Google Home voice commands, but many functions live inside the screen.
• Fuel efficiency: The mild-hybrid setup is described as improving fuel economy only modestly, by a few mpg at most.

Which 2023 Volvo XC90 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Volvo XC90 is offered in 3 trim levels: Core, Plus, Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• Core: This is the entry point, and it makes the XC90’s style, safety tech, and Google-based infotainment accessible at the lowest price. It’s the trim to start with if you want the XC90 experience without paying for extra luxury touches.
• Plus: This is the best-value trim if you want a more upscale feel without jumping to the top of the range. It adds more equipment and can be upgraded to the B6 powertrain, making it the sweet spot for many shoppers.
• Ultimate: This is the most luxurious version, and it comes standard with the B6 powertrain. Choose it if you want the richest cabin presentation and don’t mind paying for the top-spec experience.

Pilot Assist and the rest of the standard safety tech are included across the lineup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Volvo XC90?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to compare options and enough price softness to reward patience.

• Deal availability: 38.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,246 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.21% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 90.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $37,687, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Volvo XC90's resale value?

The current average of $37,687 sits slightly below last year's $43,929.

That drop suggests the XC90 has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at today’s lower market level. If prices stabilize, a well-kept example bought near the current average may have a better chance of holding value than one purchased when the market was hotter.

The XC90’s strong user satisfaction rating also supports demand, since shoppers often gravitate toward models with a good ownership reputation. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Volvo XC90 safe?

The 2023 Volvo XC90 earns a five-star rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and Pilot Assist are standard, and the system is designed to help maintain distance from the vehicle ahead from a standstill up to highway speed. The lane-keeping system can also nudge you back into your lane and vibrate if you drift.

The main safety caveat is that the XC90’s safety tech is effective but not especially innovative compared with some rivals, and its touchscreen-heavy interface can make some functions less convenient to access on the move.

Should I buy a 2023 Volvo XC90 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 38.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.9% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.21% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 brings updated B5 and B6 mild-hybrid powertrains and forward-thinking Google-based infotainment.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $28,872, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $37,687 average.
• It offers an available plug-in hybrid and a more sustainability-focused personality.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $44,712, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $37,687 average.
• It emphasizes timeless styling and a plug-in hybrid option.

The bottom line: Buy the 2023 if you want the updated mild-hybrid XC90 at a softer price than newer models. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2022 is the value play; if you want the newest nearby version and can pay more, the 2024 is the premium alternative.
