Used 2023 Volkswagen Jetta for Sale nearMesa, AZ

How much does the 2023 Volkswagen Jetta cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 2,687 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2023 Volkswagen Jetta a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 5/5 user-rated car with a 6.8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 8/10.

The 2023 Jetta is positioned as an affordable sedan that still covers the basics well, with a pleasant interior design, a comfortable cabin, and a ride-and-handling balance that stands out. It also brings impressive safety features, which makes it a practical choice if you want a family car rather than something flashy.

The trade-offs are clear: styling is uninspired, and performance can feel sluggish. If you want a straightforward compact sedan with comfort and everyday usability, the Jetta fits that brief well.

Good and great deals account for 33.8% of listings, so there’s still room to find a competitive price.

Is the 2023 Volkswagen Jetta reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Jetta is described as a practical, value-minded sedan with a comfortable ride and a well-equipped cabin. Its standard turbocharged 1.5-liter engine is enough for a front-drive family car, and the car’s everyday driving character is tuned more for ease than drama.

Volkswagen also includes free scheduled maintenance for two years or 20,000 miles, plus roadside assistance for three years and 36,000 miles. That helps reduce early ownership costs and adds some peace of mind.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the car’s mixed performance character may not suit you if you expect quick acceleration or a more engaging drive.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Volkswagen Jetta?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example. Focus on overall condition, because the Jetta’s appeal depends heavily on how well the cabin, electronics, and driving feel have been maintained.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S, Sport, SE, SEL, and GLI trims span the lineup, with the SEL standing out for its upgraded digital dials, larger infotainment screen, ambient lighting, genuine leather upholstery, and oversized power sunroof. The base trim is the most stripped-down choice, so you’ll want to compare equipment closely if you care about comfort and tech.
• Powertrain: The standard 1.5-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder makes 158 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual is standard on S and Sport, while SE and SEL use an eight-speed automatic; the automatic can feel delayed before boost arrives, and all-wheel drive is unavailable.
• Safety package: SE and SEL get IQ.Drive, which includes Travel Assist and Emergency Assist. Travel Assist combines adaptive cruise control with lane-centering assist, while Emergency Assist can bring the car to a safe stop if the driver is unresponsive. Manual-transmission models do not offer all IQ.Drive features.
• Infotainment: SEL trim upgrades the infotainment touchscreen to 8.0 inches and adds a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro display. It also includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Car-Net connected services with Wi-Fi hotspot capability and remote features.
• Fuel efficiency: The automatic-transmission SEL is rated at 33 mpg in combined driving, and the test loop returned 30 mpg.

Which 2023 Volkswagen Jetta trim should I buy?

The 2023 Volkswagen Jetta is offered in 5 trim levels: S, Sport, SE, SEL, and GLI.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point if you want the lowest-cost way into the Jetta lineup, but you’ll give up the richer cabin and tech upgrades found higher up. It makes sense if you mainly want the Jetta’s comfort and basic practicality.
• Sport: This trim adds a more appealing feature mix than the base model and is one of the better value plays if you want a little more equipment without jumping too far in price.
• SE: This is the trim to target if you want the best balance of equipment and value. It gets the standard IQ.Drive safety package and a stronger overall feature set, making it the best-value trim for many shoppers.
• SEL: This is the most upscale non-GLI choice, with the 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro, 8.0-inch infotainment screen, wireless smartphone integration, ambient lighting, leather upholstery, and a power sunroof. Choose it if you want the most polished everyday experience.
• GLI: This is the sportier model with a retuned suspension and a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine making 228 horsepower. It suits you if driving enjoyment matters more than the standard car’s comfort-first personality.

SE and SEL include IQ.Drive, while manual-transmission models do not offer all IQ.Drive features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Volkswagen Jetta?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,687 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 85.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,485, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Volkswagen Jetta's resale value?

The current average of $19,509 sits slightly below last year's $19,661.

That small decline suggests the market has been stable rather than volatile, which is helpful if you plan to sell later. A steady price pattern usually means buyers still see value in the car, even if it isn’t moving sharply upward.

For you, that means resale should be reasonably predictable as long as the car stays clean, well maintained, and competitively priced. Models with stronger equipment and better condition should be easier to move than neglected examples.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Volkswagen Jetta safe?

The 2023 Volkswagen Jetta earns a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA, but it also earns four-star ratings for frontal-impact protection. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rates it Poor in a new moderate overlap frontal-impact crash test.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Volkswagen’s IQ.Drive suite is standard on the SE and SEL trims. It includes Travel Assist, which combines adaptive cruise control with lane-centering assist, and Emergency Assist, which can stop the car if the driver is unresponsive. The system also adds collision-avoidance and driver-assistance functions expected in a modern car.

The caveat is that the Jetta’s crash-test performance is mixed, especially in the IIHS moderate overlap test. That means you should pay close attention to trim level and safety equipment, but also recognize that the published crash results are not uniformly strong.

Should I buy a 2023 Volkswagen Jetta or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 stands out for its comfortable cabin, strong ride-and-handling balance, and impressive safety features.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $17,563, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $19,509 average.
• It offers a value-minded refresh with upgraded technology and more standard features.

The bottom line: Choose the 2023 if you want the more current market snapshot and a well-rounded compact sedan with stable pricing. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2022 is the better value-focused alternative.
