The automaker’s entry-level sedan, the Model 3, has seen massive demand and several price fluctuations, but it remains a fast-selling electric vehicle (EV) with plenty of range and great power. ## What’s New for the 2023 Tesla Model 3 Tesla doesn’t follow the traditional year-end model update scheme that the entirety of the industry follows, but the automaker did shuffle some features and added better range to the entry-level trim. ## Design The Model 3’s exterior design is devoid of logos and branding, but it carries Tesla’s unmistakable front-end design. The nose is somewhat dolphin-like and is nearly completely closed, save for a large air vent in the lower fascia. ## Powertrain Tesla doesn’t advertise specs for its vehicles, focusing instead on range and acceleration. The base Model 3 offers 272 miles of range and a 5.8-second zero-60-mph time, while the top Performance model brings 315 miles of range and a 3.1-second zero-60-mph time. The Long Range model offers the best range of 358 miles per charge, and its acceleration is still more than acceptable, at 4.2 seconds to 60 mph. Charging is a high point for Teslas, as the automaker’s Supercharger network is easily the most available and reliable of any network in the US today. Though Ford, GM, and other automakers are now poised to join its network, which may cause delays, the Supercharger system is a significant selling point for Tesla vehicles. ## Interior The Model 3’s cabin is simple and austere, but upscale. It seats five people in relative comfort, and the front seats offer great support and padding. Power front seats, heated front and rear seats, and a heated steering wheel are also standard. The rear seats are comfortable enough, but tall adults might feel a bit cramped on headroom. ## Technology The 2023 Model 3 comes with a 15-inch touchscreen that handles nearly every vehicle function except for steering and braking. The car does not offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but rather uses Tesla’s proprietary interface, which takes some getting used to. Once acclimated, users will find there are plenty of features, including some neat easter eggs and “just for fun” options. ## Safety The Model 3 earned a Top Safety Pick in 2022, but it has not been subjected to the full round of testing to earn an award in 2023. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) rated it “Good” in all areas, except for LATCH system ease of use, where it earned an “Acceptable” rating. ## Pricing The 2023 Model 3 starts at $40,240 before options and ranges in price to $53,240 for the top Model 3 Performance. The Long Range model starts at $47,240, and all models are available with expensive driver-assistance upgrades. With recent changes to its supply chain, Tesla has made the Model 3 more attractive with tax credits of up to $7,500, so the listed price can change drastically.
