overall

Summary
With 344 currently listed for sale and an average price of $29,576, 34.0% of 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miatas for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata 4.75 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.17 / 10.
91.6% of 2023 MX-5 Miata models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata stands out as a pure driver’s car that delivers a lot of fun without demanding a luxury-car budget. It is a legendary two-seat, rear-drive roadster, and the test-drive notes say it can cost less than $30,000. That combination makes it appealing to buyers who want an engaging, open-air sports car experience in a compact package.
Its biggest strengths are the ones that matter most in a roadster: it feels like a street-legal go-kart, it offers top-down driving joy, and it has perfect instrumentation. The car’s charm is also part of its appeal, since it can draw attention as you drive by with the top down, music on, and the breeze in your hair. At the same time, it is not the most powerful or the fastest sports car you can buy, and the cabin is a snug fit with not much cargo space. The test-drive notes also flag a potential crash-safety concern, so the MX-5 Miata’s appeal is strongest for buyers who value driving enjoyment over practicality.

I absolutely love this car! The seat hugs me and is so comfortable. I use the heated seat feature every time I drive as it feels good on my back. There is plenty of leg room for someone 6 ft tall, but it is also good for me at 5’3”, as I can move the seat up. I like that I’m sitting up a bit more than sitting on the floor like a lot of sports cars I driven. The steering wheel is adjustable so I can see over it. It feels very roomy and has plenty of headroom for a small car. I have gotten many compliments on it as it is sooo cool!! And it is so very fun to drive! When driving with the top down, my hair doesn’t fly all over the place, and I can talk normally without raising my voice with my passenger. It also has blindside warning so I don’t worry about hitting a car in my blind site. It has a nice size screen for navigation or seeing my XM radio. The trunk is also roomier than I was expecting. The top is super simple to put back and can be done in seconds! The only thing I would change on it is I can’t pull the sun visor out and move it to the side if the sun is on my left. Otherwise, pretty darn close to perfect!!

I do love the shape of the new ND Miata, and especially all the safety features such as, lane departure warning and daytime running light’s. These are so small it’s harder for those big jacked up pickups and some SUVs to see them. The RF, retractable hardtop is also appealing especially if you park outside. You have the xtra security with it. I would like to see a little more room inside just a Skoch would be nice and they, have done away with the traditional glove box. So storage inside is at a minimum. The car still retains All it’s fun to drive attributes and being lighter in weight even with all the additional safety features it still manages to get very good gas mileage. Some have complained that the infotainment system is slow to operate even with Mazda updates.

Its always been a great car,the ND models with the extra hp makes them more fun.I had a 2016 grand touring and most recently a 2021 RF BREMBO BBS RECARO PACKAGE. Really nice but I prefer the soft top more than the RF.I love the feeling of a total open top.

If your searching for a sports car that has useable powerband for the street and perfectly balanced look no future. I have owned many wonderful cars but the Mx5 is one of my favorites. Usually have had Clubs this is my first Grand Touring and the extra goodies coupled with the Club specs I have stopped searching and found the one.

How much does the 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $29,552 |
| Year-Round Low | $27,346 |
| Year-Round High | $29,933 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $28,950 |
| Change vs. Last Year | +2.08% |
Prices are up 2.08% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.
There are 361 listings available, which suggests you still have some room to compare trims and conditions.
Is the 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata a good car?
Yes — you get a 4.75/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Performance and Cost effectiveness.
The 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata is a legendary two-seat, rear-drive roadster that delivers a lot of fun without demanding a luxury-car budget. It is strongest if you want an engaging, open-air sports car experience in a compact package, and the test-drive notes emphasize its street-legal go-kart feel and top-down driving joy.
The trade-offs are clear: it is not the most powerful or fastest sports car you can buy, and the cabin is a snug fit with limited cargo space. That makes it a better match if driving enjoyment matters more to you than everyday practicality.
Only 37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market rewards patience if you want the right example.
Is the 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata reliable?
Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata is built around a simple, lightweight formula, and that simplicity can work in your favor over time. The test-drive notes also describe it as a car that feels smooth and stable in motion, helped by Kinematic Posture Control and a balanced rear-drive layout.
Its 2.0-liter engine and manual transmission setup are straightforward, and the car’s low weight reduces the strain that can come with heavier performance vehicles. If you buy used, the main ownership risk is less about complexity and more about finding one that has been cared for properly and not abused.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata?
Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially because this is a low-slung sports car that may have seen spirited use. Focus on seat comfort, cabin wear, roof condition, and whether the car feels tight and well maintained on a test drive.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Sport is basic, the Club improves handling, and the Grand Touring adds more features, including leather seats and shiny wheels. The base trim is the most stripped-down choice, so you should pay attention to which convenience and comfort features you want before you buy.
- Powertrain: The Skyactiv 2.0-liter four-cylinder makes 181 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque, and the six-speed manual is the preferred transmission. The automatic is available, but the test-drive notes make clear it is not the enthusiast’s first choice.
- Safety package: Mazda’s i-ActiveSense suite includes Smart City Brake Support with forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking, plus blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and lane-departure warning. Grand Touring adds traffic sign recognition, adaptive front lighting, automatic high beams, and rain-sensing wipers.
- Infotainment: The system uses a 7-inch screen and includes Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, HD Radio, text-messaging support, and E911 emergency notification. Club and Grand Touring add wireless Apple CarPlay, while Android Auto still requires a USB cable.
- Fuel efficiency: The test car returned 29 mpg in combined driving, and the notes say you can expect at least 300 miles between fuel stops.
Which 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata trim should I buy?
The 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata is offered in 3 trim levels: Sport, Club, and Grand Touring.
Here's the short version:
- Sport: This is the simplest way into the Miata experience, and it keeps the car focused on the essentials. It suits you best if you want the lowest-cost path to the roadster formula and do not need extra comfort or convenience features.
- Club: This is the best-value trim if you want the sharper driving setup. It improves handling, and the content also points to stronger enthusiast appeal through available equipment and a more performance-oriented character.
- Grand Touring: This is the trim to choose if you want the most features and the easiest daily livability. It adds leather seats, shiny wheels, and the automatic transmission if you want one, along with the most complete safety and tech content.
Grand Touring also gets the extra safety and convenience features from the driver-assistance package, including traffic sign recognition, adaptive front lighting, automatic high beams, and rain-sensing wipers.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you should shop carefully and move quickly when you find the right car.
- Deal availability: 37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 361 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 2.08% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 91.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $27,346, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata's resale value?
The current average of $29,552 sits slightly above last year's $28,950.
That upward move suggests the market still values this model year’s mix of affordability and driving enjoyment. If you own one in good condition, you may benefit from steady buyer interest, especially because the Miata has a strong enthusiast following and a clear identity.
For a future seller, the key is to preserve condition and mileage as much as possible. A clean, well-kept example should remain easier to move than a neglected one, particularly because shoppers in this segment are often looking for a fun weekend car rather than basic transportation.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata safe?
The 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata earns a 3/10 safety score from our experts.
Mazda equips new Miatas with a basic version of its i-ActiveSense driving assistance systems. They include Smart City Brake Support, which operates at speeds from 2 mph to 18 mph and includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking. You also get blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and lane-departure warning.
Grand Touring trim adds traffic sign recognition for speed limit, stop, and Do Not Enter signs, plus adaptive front lighting, automatic high beams, rain-sensing wipers, and heated side mirrors. The notes also flag that the lane-departure warning is not especially effective, and the traffic-sign recognition system is described as unhelpful.
The test-drive notes also point out the basic physics problem here: this is a very light sports car in a world full of larger vehicles, so you should not treat it like a safety-first choice.
Should I buy a 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
- Price trend: Prices are up 2.08% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2023 keeps the Miata formula focused on lightweight, open-air driving fun.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $28,314, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $29,552 average.
- It adds Kinematic Posture Control and makes the RF Club especially appealing.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $31,446, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $29,552 average.
- It brings updated steering, a revised limited-slip differential, and newer infotainment.
The bottom line: If you want the classic Miata experience with strong market support, the 2023 is the right place to start. If price matters most, the 2022 is the smarter value play, while the 2024 makes sense if you want the newer updates and are willing to pay more.
