How much does the 2023 Mazda CX-5 cost?

Prices have softened 2.00% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,903 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices and trims.

Is the 2023 Mazda CX-5 a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Mazda CX-5 earns a 4.9/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, performance, and features, along with the stylish interior and high-quality finishes. The user feedback also highlights the useful heads-up display and the engaging driving feel, which fits the CX-5’s role as a compact SUV for buyers who want something more rewarding than purely practical.

The trade-offs are familiar: the back seat is cramped, cargo space is limited, and the infotainment interface is frustrating to use. In other words, if you want a small SUV that feels polished and enjoyable on the road, the CX-5 fits well; if you need maximum space or the easiest tech experience, you may want to look elsewhere.

Good and great deals account for 38.6% of listings, so there’s still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Mazda CX-5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a vehicle that feels comfortable, well-finished, and enjoyable to live with over time, with owners repeatedly calling out its performance and features. The expert evaluation also describes the CX-5 as refined and solid, with a tight, composed feel that supports confidence in everyday use.

Mazda also includes a free three-year trial subscription to Mazda Connected Services, which adds some ownership value early on. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about mechanical drama and more about whether the vehicle’s age, tech frustrations, and prior maintenance history have been managed well.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Mazda CX-5?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the report carefully, because accident-free status is only a starting point. Prioritize a thorough inspection of the cabin, cargo area, and infotainment system, since those are the areas most often called out as weak points. It also makes sense to confirm that the vehicle’s safety and convenience features work as expected, especially on higher trims.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The CX-5 lineup spans from the 2.5 S to the 2.5 Turbo Signature, and the base version already looks and feels upscale for the class. Higher trims add more luxury-like touches, while the top versions bring features such as a surround-view camera, front and rear parking sensors, rear low-speed automatic emergency braking, Traffic Jam Assist, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, and an Active Driving Display.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder makes 187 hp and pairs with a six-speed automatic and standard AWD. The available turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder delivers 256 hp with premium fuel, or 227 hp on regular fuel, and it is the better choice if you want stronger acceleration.
• Safety package: Mazda bundles most of its driver-assistance tech under the i-Activsense banner, and it operates smoothly and accurately. Some features are reserved for the 2.5 Turbo Signature, including the surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, rear low-speed automatic emergency braking, and Traffic Jam Assist.
• Infotainment: The CX-5 uses a 10.25-inch display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Mazda Connected Services. The system is widely criticized for its awkward controls and lack of a helpful voice recognition system, so this is an area to test carefully.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard engine is rated at 26 mpg in combined driving, while the turbocharged engine is rated at 24 mpg combined. The turbo can also use premium fuel for its full output, so operating costs can vary depending on how you drive it.

Which 2023 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 8 trim levels: 2.5 S, 2.5 S Select, 2.5 S Preferred, 2.5 S Carbon Edition, 2.5 S Premium, 2.5 S Premium Plus, 2.5 Turbo, 2.5 Turbo Signature.

Here's the short version:

• 2.5 S: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the CX-5’s stylish design, standard AWD, and strong safety foundation. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model and care more about the driving feel than luxury extras.
• 2.5 S Select: This is the better-value starting point for many shoppers because it adds more comfort and convenience without pushing you too far up the price ladder. If you want a more satisfying daily driver without chasing the highest trims, this is the one to focus on.
• 2.5 S Preferred: This trim is a smart middle ground if you want the CX-5’s upscale feel to come through more clearly. It suits you if you want a nicer cabin and more features without stepping into the pricier turbo models.
• 2.5 S Carbon Edition: Choose this if styling matters and you want a more distinctive look. It keeps the CX-5’s premium vibe while adding a more expressive appearance.
• 2.5 S Premium: This trim is for shoppers who want more of the CX-5’s comfort and tech without going all the way to the top. It’s a good fit if you value a more polished ownership experience.
• 2.5 S Premium Plus: This is the best-value choice if you want the richest non-turbo experience. It brings you closest to the upper end of the lineup without paying for the turbo engine.
• 2.5 Turbo: Pick this if you want the strongest performance and the most rewarding driving experience. The turbo engine is the clear choice for buyers who care about acceleration and passing power.
• 2.5 Turbo Signature: This is the most luxurious version, and it adds the most exclusive safety and convenience equipment. It makes the most sense if you want the most fully equipped CX-5 and are willing to pay for it.

Mazda reserves some safety and convenience features for the 2.5 Turbo Signature, so check carefully if those items matter to you.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Mazda CX-5?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.

• Deal availability: 38.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,903 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.00% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 84.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $24,821, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $25,090 sits slightly below last year's $25,602.

That softer pricing suggests the CX-5 has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. A model that is already trending below its prior-year average may be easier to position competitively later, especially if it remains well maintained and cleanly documented.

The CX-5’s strong owner satisfaction should also help support demand when you eventually sell. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Mazda CX-5 safe?

The 2023 Mazda CX-5 earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and five-star ratings in every NHTSA assessment, along with a four-star rollover resistance rating.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Mazda bundles most of its driver-assistance tech under the i-Activsense banner, and it works smoothly and accurately. Standard and available features include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, automatic collision notification, and, on higher trims, an Active Driving Display. The 2.5 Turbo Signature also adds a surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, rear low-speed automatic emergency braking, and Traffic Jam Assist.

One caveat is that some of the most useful convenience and parking aids are reserved for the highest trim. If those features matter to you, make sure the specific vehicle you’re considering includes them.

Should I buy a 2023 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 38.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.00% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It’s a carryover year with the same stylish, fun-to-drive character and strong safety focus.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $23,089, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $25,090 average.
• It delivers a more premium feel with strong safety and a fun driving character.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $26,631, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $25,090 average.
• It feels more polished and refined, with a premium-feeling cabin and strong safety.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, safety, and driving enjoyment, the 2023 is the sensible target. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 is the better value; if you want a slightly newer and more refined feel, the 2024 is worth the extra cost.
