How much does the 2023 Mazda CX-5 cost?

Prices have softened 1.33% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,923 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices and trims.

Is the 2023 Mazda CX-5 a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Mazda CX-5 earns a 4.9/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, performance, and features, along with the stylish interior and high-quality finishes. The user-friendly heads-up display also comes up as a recurring plus, and the ride quality and handling are frequent highlights. On the downside, the cabin can feel cramped in back, cargo space is limited, and the infotainment interface is a common frustration.

For you, that means the CX-5 makes the most sense if you want a polished compact crossover that feels more upscale than basic transportation and still fits everyday family use. It is less compelling if you prioritize maximum space or a simple tech interface. Good and great deals account for 35.1% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Mazda CX-5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a vehicle people feel good about keeping, with repeated praise for comfort, performance, and high-quality finishes. The expert evaluation also emphasizes the CX-5’s refined, solid feel and its ability to deliver a rewarding driving experience over time. Mazda’s standard maintenance coverage adds a small ownership perk, with the first scheduled maintenance visit included.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright dependability and more about living with the CX-5’s aging tech and practical compromises if those matter to you.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Mazda CX-5?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 86% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a vehicle history report on any candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage example. Focus on cabin condition, infotainment usability, and whether the vehicle’s features match the trim you want. If you care about daily livability, make sure the back seat and cargo area work for your needs before you commit.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup spans from the 2.5 S to the 2.5 Turbo Signature, and the base version is the one most likely to leave you wanting more if you care about upscale touches. Higher trims add more premium materials and features, while the top versions bring a more luxury-like feel.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder makes 187 hp and pairs with a six-speed automatic and standard AWD. The available turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder delivers much stronger output and is the better choice if you want quicker acceleration.
• Safety package: Mazda bundles its driver-assistance tech under i-Activsense, with most features standard. The most expensive trims add a surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, rear low-speed automatic emergency braking, and Traffic Jam Assist.
• Infotainment: The system uses a 10.25-inch display and includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Mazda Connected Services. The interface is widely criticized, so test it carefully before buying.
• Fuel efficiency: The standard powertrain is rated at 26 mpg combined, while the turbocharged engine is rated at 24 mpg combined.

Which 2023 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 8 trim levels: 2.5 S, 2.5 S Select, 2.5 S Preferred, 2.5 S Carbon Edition, 2.5 S Premium, 2.5 S Premium Plus, 2.5 Turbo, 2.5 Turbo Signature.

Here's the short version:

• 2.5 S: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core CX-5 experience at the lowest price. It makes sense if you want the styling, safety, and driving feel without paying for extras.
• 2.5 S Select: This is the first step up if you want a better balance of value and comfort. It is the trim to consider if you want a little more equipment without moving too far up the price ladder.
• 2.5 S Preferred: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds more of the upscale feel the CX-5 is known for without jumping into luxury-priced territory.
• 2.5 S Carbon Edition: Choose this if you want a more distinctive look and a stronger style statement. It suits buyers who care about appearance as much as everyday usability.
• 2.5 S Premium: This trim is for you if you want more comfort and convenience features while staying with the standard engine.
• 2.5 S Premium Plus: This is the right pick if you want a near-top mainstream experience before moving into turbo territory. It is the most complete choice among the non-turbo trims.
• 2.5 Turbo: Pick this if you want the CX-5’s strongest everyday performance. The extra power makes the SUV feel more responsive and rewarding to drive.
• 2.5 Turbo Signature: This is the most upscale version, with the richest feature set and the most premium feel. It is the one to buy if you want the fullest CX-5 experience and do not mind paying for it.

The safety package is broadly standard, but the most expensive trims get the extra driver-assistance features and camera systems.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Mazda CX-5?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,923 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.33% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 86.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $24,823, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $25,420 sits slightly below last year's $25,763.

That modest decline suggests the CX-5 is holding value reasonably well, even as the model ages. For a future seller, the current pricing trend points to steady demand rather than sharp depreciation. The model’s strong reputation for satisfaction should help support buyer interest when it is time to resell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Mazda CX-5 safe?

The 2023 Mazda CX-5 earns a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS and five-star ratings in every NHTSA assessment, along with the usual four-star rollover resistance rating.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Mazda’s i-Activsense suite is standard on most of the lineup, and it operates smoothly and accurately. Standard features include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, and automatic collision notification. Higher trims add a surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, rear low-speed automatic emergency braking, Traffic Jam Assist, and an Active Driving Display.

The main caveat is that some of the most useful extras are reserved for the priciest trims, so you should confirm exactly which driver-assistance features are included on the vehicle you are considering.

Should I buy a 2023 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 86% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.33% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 keeps the CX-5’s polished design and strong safety reputation while adding only a minor paint update.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $23,445, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $25,420 average.
• It delivers a more premium feel without leaving the mainstream price bracket.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $26,748, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $25,420 average.
• It benefits from continued refinement and a more polished overall package.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, safety, and satisfaction, the 2023 is the sensible default. If you are especially price-sensitive, the 2022 is worth a close look. If you want the newest version and do not mind paying more, the 2024 is the cleaner upgrade path.
