Used 2023 Land Rover Defender for Sale nearPhoenix, AZ

How much does the 2023 Land Rover Defender cost?

Prices have softened 14.36% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,743 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2023 Land Rover Defender a good car?

With a user rating of 3/5 and an expert rating of 7.17/10, the 2023 Defender looks like a niche SUV that fits some buyers much better than others.

The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

The Defender’s appeal comes through clearly in its rugged personality, wide range of customization, and mix of powertrain and body choices. It also brings a more modern, high-end feel than the original Defender while keeping the distinctive, off-road-ready character that makes it stand out from conventional SUVs.

The trade-offs are just as clear: the cabin is too utilitarian, body roll is a drawback, and it is poor value for money. That means you should think of it as a purpose-built choice for buyers who want capability and style, not as the most polished all-around luxury SUV.

With 39.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Land Rover Defender reliable?

The Defender’s rugged design and solid build quality point to a vehicle that is built for hard use, and its off-road focus is backed by a strong expert score for safety and capability.

Its powertrain lineup also includes a mild-hybrid inline-six that restarts seamlessly without shuddering, plus an electric supercharger for quicker low-speed response. The V8 and eight-speed automatic are described as especially strong, while the four-cylinder is the one most likely to feel strained in everyday driving.

For maintenance, the Defender’s ownership story is helped when you choose a well-equipped example and stay on top of service, since long-term running costs can be a concern for used buyers.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Land Rover Defender?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.5% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the vehicle has seen trail use or heavy customization. Focus on signs of wear in the cabin, suspension, and bodywork, since the Defender’s mission encourages harder use than many luxury SUVs.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base model is spartan, with manual fabric seats and a no-name stereo, while higher trims add more comfort and convenience features. If you want the best balance of equipment and value, look closely at the trims that add heated power seats, better audio, and more premium cabin touches.
• Powertrain: You can choose from a turbocharged four-cylinder, a mild-hybrid inline-six, or a supercharged V8. The six-cylinder brings smoother response and better efficiency than the V8, while the four-cylinder is best left to lighter-duty use.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and automatic emergency braking. A 360-degree camera system, head-up display, and trailer-reversing steering are available, but highway assist is not offered.
• Infotainment: The Defender uses Pivi Pro with a standard 10-inch screen, and an optional 11.4-inch touchscreen is available. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation, connected apps, and a voice assistant come standard.
• Fuel efficiency: The four-cylinder is rated at 17 mpg city, 20 mpg highway, and 18 mpg combined. The six-cylinder returns 18 mpg city, 23 mpg highway, and 20 mpg combined, while the V8 is rated at 14 mpg city, 19 mpg highway, and 16 mpg combined.

Which 2023 Land Rover Defender trim should I buy?

The 2023 Land Rover Defender is offered in 6 trim levels: 90, 110, 130, S, SE, and X.

Here's the short version:

• 90: This is the two-door body style, so it makes the most sense if you want the Defender’s look and capability in a smaller package.
• 110: This is the four-door version and the best-value choice for most shoppers because it balances practicality, equipment, and price.
• 130: This extended four-door body adds the most practicality and is the right pick if you want extra space and a more family-friendly layout.
• S: This trim adds heated 12-way power seats with leather and a Meridian stereo, making it a meaningful step up from the base setup.
• SE: This is the trim to target if you want a stronger comfort-and-convenience mix, including fog lights, surround sound, auto high beams, and cooled front seats.
• X: This is the most feature-rich choice, adding air suspension, a locking rear differential, an upgraded Terrain Response 2 system, adaptive cruise control, a head-up display, the larger touchscreen, and a rearview mirror with a camera display.

The safety package includes lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and automatic emergency braking as standard equipment.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Land Rover Defender?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

• Deal availability: 39.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,743 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.36% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 91.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $52,073, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Land Rover Defender's resale value?

The current average of $52,073 sits slightly below last year's $60,805.

That decline suggests the market has cooled enough to give you more negotiating room as a buyer. For a future seller, it also means you should expect depreciation pressure if you buy at the wrong end of the range.

The good news is that the Defender still has strong identity and broad appeal, which can help support resale compared with more ordinary SUVs. If you buy carefully and keep mileage and condition in check, you should be in a better position when it’s time to sell.

Is the 2023 Land Rover Defender safe?

The Defender scored five of five stars in Euro NCAP crash testing and was praised for its solid structure.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and automatic emergency braking. A 360-degree camera system, head-up display, and trailer-reversing steering are available, while highway assist is not offered.

One caveat is that Land Rover equips the Defender with six airbags, which is fewer than you might expect in this class.

Should I buy a 2023 Land Rover Defender or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 39.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.5% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 14.36% compared with last year.
• For 2023, the extended Defender 130 joins the lineup, adding practicality to the model’s purpose.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $43,980, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $52,073 average.
• It adds a new touchscreen, standard wireless charging, and an expanded trim lineup.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $58,326, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $52,073 average.
• It broadens the lineup with more trims, features, and expanded V8 availability.

The bottom line: The 2023 is the right path if you want the newest version of this body style with a softer market and the added practicality of the 130. If price matters most, the 2022 is the smarter value play, while the 2024 makes sense if you want the broader feature set and can pay more.
