Used 2020 Land Rover Defender for Sale nearPhoenix, AZ

How much does the 2020 Land Rover Defender cost?

Prices have softened 16.26% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 443 listings available, which gives you a modest pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2020 Land Rover Defender a good car?

Yes — owners rate it 5/5, and the expert rating is 7.5/10. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its practicality, impressive off-road capability, smooth on-road performance, power, styling, and sturdy build. The overview also points to a spacious cabin and serious trail ability, which makes it appealing if you want a rugged SUV that still works well for everyday use.

The trade-offs are clear: poor value for money and interior materials that feel cheap. The expert notes also point to a cabin that is more basic than you might expect for the price.

With its blend of toughness and everyday usability, it fits best if you care more about capability and character than luxury polish. 40.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2020 Land Rover Defender reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner summary also points to a sturdy build and trouble-free ownership impressions, while the expert notes emphasize its durable, purpose-built character and strong off-road competence.

The performance notes reinforce that it is engineered to handle rough use, with air springs, a mild-hybrid powertrain, and off-road systems designed for demanding conditions. The cost-effectiveness notes also frame it as a specialty vehicle built in low numbers, which can help explain why buyers accept its compromises.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that its premium hardware and specialized design can make repairs and upkeep more expensive than you might expect.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Land Rover Defender?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the cabin, electronics, and any signs of hard off-road use. Pay close attention to how the vehicle presents overall, since condition matters a lot on a specialty SUV like this.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Defender 110 comes with steel wheels, manual seats, and a lousy stereo, while the SE, HSE, X, and First Edition add niceties like a heated steering wheel, leather, a 14-speaker Meridian stereo, and more accessories. The HSE sits above the SE, and the X is the more expensive step up.
• Powertrain: The standard engine is a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four with 296 hp and 295 lb-ft, while higher trims use a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six with 395 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque and mild-hybrid assistance. The six-cylinder setup brings stronger performance and quicker response.
• Safety package: Forward emergency braking, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, driver attention monitor, and 360-degree cameras come standard. Rear cross-traffic alerts and alerts upon exiting the vehicle are optional, and the vehicle does not come with knee airbags or rear side airbags.
• Infotainment: Pivi Pro uses a 10-inch touchscreen, includes navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, over-the-air software updates, 4G WiFi, and a wireless charger. A 12-inch digital instrument panel is available, and the system also supports front-camera views and off-road data displays.
• Fuel efficiency: The six-cylinder mild-hybrid setup uses a 48-volt battery and can power accessories while stopped, but no MPG figure is stated.

Which 2020 Land Rover Defender trim should I buy?

The 2020 Land Rover Defender is offered in 5 trim levels: 110, 110 S, 110 SE, HSE, and X.

Here's the short version:

• 110: This is the entry point, and it gives you the standard four-cylinder setup along with steel wheels, manual seats, and a basic stereo. It makes sense if you want the Defender experience at the lowest starting price, but it is the least polished choice.
• 110 S: This trim keeps the four-cylinder engine and adds a step up from the base model without moving into the pricier six-cylinder versions. It is the value-minded choice if you want to stay closer to the starting price.
• 110 SE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more complete luxury and convenience mix, including a heated steering wheel, leather, and the 14-speaker Meridian stereo. It also gets the stronger six-cylinder hybrid powertrain.
• HSE: This trim builds on the SE with more upscale equipment and was the tester’s trim level. It suits you if you want a more premium Defender without jumping all the way to the top.
• X: This is the most expensive trim and adds the most upscale presentation, making it the right pick if you want the most fully equipped version and are willing to pay for it.

Safety equipment is strong across the lineup, but rear cross-traffic alerts and exit warnings remain optional.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Land Rover Defender?

The market is leaning in your favor right now, especially if you are comparing multiple listings and watching condition closely.

• Deal availability: 40.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 443 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.26% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 86.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $36,684, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Land Rover Defender's resale value?

The current average of $36,685 sits slightly below last year's $43,806.

That drop suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, that means your upside may depend more on condition, mileage, and trim than on broad market appreciation.

Because this model is a specialty vehicle with strong enthusiast appeal, well-kept examples can still draw attention when they are priced correctly. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Land Rover Defender safe?

The Defender has not been rated by any U.S. crash testing agency or organization.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Forward emergency braking, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, driver attention monitor, and 360-degree cameras come standard. Rear cross-traffic alerts and alerts upon exiting the vehicle are optional, so you should confirm whether a used example has those extras if they matter to you.

One important caveat is that it does not come with knee airbags or rear side airbags, which is worth factoring into your safety expectations.

Should I buy a 2020 Land Rover Defender or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 40.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 16.26% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 launch brought the modern Defender back with strong off-road ability and a spacious cabin.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $39,960, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $36,685 average.
• It adds the short-wheelbase Defender 90.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter buy because prices have eased and owner satisfaction is strong. If you specifically want the 90 body style, the 2021 is the better path, but you should expect to pay more.
