Used 2023 Kia Sportage for Sale near Charleston, SC

How much does the 2023 Kia Sportage cost?

Prices have softened 6.54% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,757 listings available, which suggests you should have a healthy number of options to compare.

Is the 2023 Kia Sportage a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Kia Sportage earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its great value, spacious interior, and modern styling, and they also like the impressive features you get for the price. The main trade-offs are a bit more trunk space, more power under the hood, and a few minor usability quirks.

That lines up with the broader use case: you’re looking at a compact crossover that aims to be a stylish, practical, and tech-forward everyday vehicle rather than a sporty one. With 37.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Kia Sportage reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable and trouble-free for everyday use, with buyers repeatedly calling out its strong value and feature content. The expert evaluation also emphasizes Kia’s long-term ownership appeal through its warranty coverage and the sense that the Sportage is built to be a feature-rich, confidence-inspiring compact SUV.

Kia’s warranty coverage adds another layer of reassurance for used buyers, especially if you plan to keep the vehicle for several years. Even so, you should still pay close attention to maintenance records and overall condition, since long-term ownership risk always depends on how the previous owner treated the car.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Kia Sportage?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report, confirm the vehicle’s maintenance record, and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if you’re considering a higher-mileage example. Focus on cabin condition, electronics, and any signs that the vehicle has been used hard, since those are the areas where a used crossover can show wear first.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base LX gets cloth seats and an 8-inch infotainment screen, while higher trims add a larger display, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and more upscale cabin touches. The EX trim is the point where the Sportage becomes more compelling for many shoppers.
• Powertrain: The gas Sportage uses a 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine with 187 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. It’s available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and the performance is described as fairly pedestrian.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, lane-following assist, lane-departure warning, rear backup sensors, and a backup camera. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and safe exit warning arrive on the EX trim, while adaptive cruise control requires at least the SX trim.
• Infotainment: EX-and-up models get a 12.3-inch touchscreen, while the base LX uses an 8-inch screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Wireless charging, rear USB-C ports, navigation, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, and HD Radio are standard above the LX, and the SX and higher trims add a panoramic curved 12.3-inch driver display.
• Fuel efficiency: The gas model is rated at 25 mpg city and 32 mpg highway with front-wheel drive, or 23/28/25 with all-wheel drive.

Which 2023 Kia Sportage trim should I buy?

The 2023 Kia Sportage is offered in 7 trim levels: LX, EX, SX, SX Prestige, X-Line, X-Pro, and X-Pro Prestige.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, but it’s the least compelling choice if you want the Sportage’s best mix of value and equipment. You get the basics, including cloth seats and the smaller infotainment screen, but the cabin feels much less impressive than the higher trims.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers. It adds the larger 12.3-inch touchscreen, more upscale cabin details, and important safety upgrades like blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and safe exit warning.
• SX: This trim is for you if you want a more premium-feeling Sportage, with the panoramic curved 12.3-inch driver display and adaptive cruise control. It also adds the Harman Kardon stereo.
• SX Prestige: This is the luxury-leaning choice if you want the most upscale version of the standard Sportage. It builds on the SX with the most advanced Kia safety tech, including blind-view monitor and Highway driving assist.
• X-Line: This trim adds rugged styling cues such as 19-inch alloy wheels, gloss- and matte-black exterior trim, and a gloss-black roof rack. It’s more about appearance than capability.
• X-Pro: This is the one to choose if you want genuine off-road-oriented hardware. It adds BF Goodrich all-terrain tires, smaller 17-inch wheels, and drive modes tuned for those tires.
• X-Pro Prestige: This is the most fully equipped rugged trim, combining the X-Pro’s off-road-focused setup with the top-end safety tech found on the SX Prestige.

The safety package is strongest on the higher trims, especially the SX Prestige and X-Pro Prestige, which are the only versions to include blind-view monitor and Highway driving assist.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Kia Sportage?

The market looks moderately favorable if you’re a selective buyer.

• Deal availability: 37.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,757 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.54% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 83.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $23,045, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Kia Sportage's resale value?

The current average of $23,045 sits slightly below last year's $24,657.

That softer pricing suggests the Sportage is currently more buyer-friendly than it was a year ago, which can be a mixed signal for future resale. If you buy now, you may benefit from the lower entry price, but a seller later on should expect value to depend heavily on trim, condition, and mileage.

The good news is that strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when it’s time to sell. A well-kept Sportage with desirable equipment should remain appealing to used shoppers looking for style, space, and tech.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Kia Sportage safe?

The 2023 Kia Sportage offers an admirable amount of collision-avoidance tech and advanced driver assistance systems as standard equipment.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, lane-following assist, lane-departure warning, rear backup sensors, and a backup camera. If you move up to the EX trim, you also get blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and safe exit warning. Adaptive cruise control starts at the SX trim, while blind-view monitor and Highway driving assist are reserved for the SX Prestige and X-Pro Prestige trims.

Should I buy a 2023 Kia Sportage or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 37.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.54% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• This year brings the redesigned fifth-generation Sportage with standout styling and strong tech.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $17,246, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $23,045 average.
• It offers a stylish, sophisticated, and available turbocharged setup.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2023 if you want the newer design, stronger tech, and broader appeal of this generation. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2022 remains a sensible alternative, especially if you’re comfortable giving up the redesign and some of the newer features.
