Used 2023 Honda Civic Type R for Sale nearAlexandria, VA

How much does the 2023 Honda Civic Type R cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 164 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2023 Honda Civic Type R a good car?

It is a strong choice if you want a performance-first hatchback with everyday usability, especially since owners rate it 3.7/5 and our experts score it 8.2/10.

The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the car’s impressive performance, fun driving experience, responsive handling, instant torque, and powerful turbo sounds. The overview also frames it as comfortable, which helps it work beyond pure track-day duty.

The main trade-offs are that all-wheel drive is not available and the touchscreen response is sluggish. That means you are buying into a car that prioritizes excitement over all-weather traction and polished infotainment speed.

With its performance focus and everyday comfort, it fits you best if you want a hot hatch that feels special every time you drive it. Only 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the market is not especially bargain-heavy.

Is the 2023 Honda Civic Type R reliable?

The 2023 Honda Civic Type R is presented as a car built around durability and long-term confidence, even though it is clearly tuned for hard driving.

Owners describe it as impressive, fun, and powerful, with the kind of responsive handling and strong turbo character that suggests a car you can count on for repeat enjoyment. The expert writeup also emphasizes that Honda refined the engine over a long period of time and calls it extremely durable.

Honda’s Sensing suite adds traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, and road-departure mitigation. The car also uses a single-camera system with eight sonar sensors to support those driver aids.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic dependability and more about how the car was driven and maintained, since this is a performance model that invites hard use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Honda Civic Type R?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 92.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially because this is a performance car that may have been driven aggressively. Focus on wear items, signs of track use, and whether the car’s condition matches its mileage and asking price.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Type R’s unique bodywork, rear wing, red interior accents, and performance-focused cabin set it apart from a regular Civic, but the cabin still uses hard plastics below the waistline, so you should judge condition carefully rather than expecting luxury-grade materials.
• Powertrain: The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder makes 315 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, and it is paired only with a six-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive. Honda’s limited-slip differential helps it hold grip, and the car offers Comfort, Sport, Individual, and +R drive modes.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing includes traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, and road-departure mitigation. The Type R also uses a single-camera system with eight sonar sensors.
• Infotainment: You get a 9-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, wireless charging, and a Bose premium sound system. The system is bright and crisp, but response can be sluggish.
• Fuel efficiency: The Type R returns 22 mpg city and 28 mpg highway.

Which 2023 Honda Civic Type R trim should I buy?

The 2023 Honda Civic Type R is offered in 1 trim level: Type R.

Here's the short version:

The Type R is the one to buy because there is only one trim, and it already includes the core performance hardware, the 9-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone integration, the Bose audio system, and Honda Sensing. Since there is no lower trim to step through, your decision is really about whether you want the full Type R experience.

The safety package is standard, so you do not need to move up for the driver-assistance suite.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Honda Civic Type R?

This is a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you should shop carefully and move quickly when you find a strong listing.

• Deal availability: 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 164 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 92.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $42,527, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Honda Civic Type R's resale value?

The current average of $43,775 sits slightly below last year's $44,120.

That small decline suggests the market has been fairly stable, which is helpful if you are thinking about future resale. You are not looking at a steep drop that would signal weak demand.

For a future seller, that kind of pricing pattern usually points to a model that holds its value reasonably well relative to the broader market. If you keep mileage, condition, and maintenance records in good shape, you should be in a better position when it is time to sell.

Is the 2023 Honda Civic Type R safe?

The 2023 Honda Civic Type R has not been crash-tested by either NHTSA or IIHS, but Honda’s safety hardware and the related Civic platform point to strong protection potential.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing is the named driver-assistance suite, and it includes traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, and road-departure mitigation. The car also uses a new single-camera system with eight sonar sensors, split between the front and rear.

A related 2022 Civic platform earned a Top Safety Pick+ designation from IIHS, and the 2023 Civic Hatchback received a five-star overall rating from NHTSA. Even so, the Type R itself remains untested, so you should treat its safety reputation as promising rather than fully verified.

Should I buy a 2023 Honda Civic Type R or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 92.1% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Expert or safety highlight specific to this year from ROOT "Expert test drive data"."Summary".

The bottom line: The 2023 is a strong pick if you want the current Type R formula and you value a stable price trend with decent inventory. If you are more price-sensitive, it makes sense to compare listings carefully and consider whether a lower-mileage or better-priced example from a nearby year gives you more value.
