CarGurus Analysis: 2023 Ford Mustang

Summary
With 2,983 currently listed for sale and an average price of $32,809.00, 32.7% of 2023 Ford Mustangs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Ford Mustang 5 / 5 stars.
88.4% of 2023 Mustang models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Ford Mustang stands out because it sits at the end of the sixth generation, a long-running redesign that began for the 2015 model year and brought a sleeker, smoother look, coupe and soft-top convertible body styles, and a new electric system for the convertible top. It also marked the first time Ford produced and marketed the Mustang for a global audience, and it was the first Mustang to feature Ford’s EcoBoost engine lineup. A new independent rear suspension system was another key part of that ground-up redesign, helping define this generation’s more modern driving character.
For 2023, the Mustang’s appeal comes from its broad range of powertrains and transmissions. Ford’s EcoBoost turbocharged 2.3-liter inline four-cylinder engine powers base Mustangs in this generation, while other available engines include a 3.7-liter V6, the 5.0-liter Coyote V8, and two versions of the 5.2-liter V8, exclusive to the Shelby GT350 and the GT500. Transmission choices, depending on engine, include two six-speed manuals, six- and 10-speed automatics, and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. That variety helps the Mustang cover a wide spread of buyers, from those who want an accessible sports car to those looking for more serious performance.
There are tradeoffs, though. Models with the EcoBoost engine are known for problems with oil consumption and potential head gasket failure, and the transmission may be prone to slippage. For shoppers considering a used 2023 Mustang, that means condition and maintenance history matter a lot. Even so, the car’s combination of iconic styling, rear-wheel-drive layout, and wide performance range keeps it appealing, and owner feedback reinforces that mix of performance, looks, and value.

It doesn’t have a lot of luxury features but the active exhaust is great and for its age and mileage it was a good price.

Great car. Great color. Lots of extra features. Good value for what it has. Wish it had a spoiler. But no biggie. I love it. 1st v8. Hyped!

Reviewed a 2023 Ford Mustang on Jun 10, 2023
From a purely aesthetic standpoint the new Mustangs look like the classic muscle cars of the 60’s and 70’s. It has that wide body and low to the ground appearance you expect from a Ford Mustang. This particular model with its “White Ice Appearance Package” is truly classy. But this vehicle is nothing like the Mustangs of the 60’s and 70’s. It has all the “Bells and Whistles” of the modern technology era! From its state of the art 12 LCD Digital IP CLUSTER, to its SAFETY/SECURITY conscious package this vehicle is truly a marvel and an utter joy to drive. As far as being a good value, I think Ford has done a fairly good job of giving the car buyer the most and best bang for his buck. They’ve incorporated the things people are looking for in a vehicle and done so at a reasonable cost to the consumer. From my point of view the EcoBoost Premium Fastback RWD with the 201A Optional Equipment Package leaves nothing out. It was a great deal for the price and it has everything that I need or even desired in a car.

How much does the 2023 Ford Mustang cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $32,802 |
| Year-Round Low | $28,727.76 |
| Year-Round High | $33,725.72 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $30,567 |
| Change vs. Last Year | +7.31% |
Prices are up 7.31% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.
There are 3,048 listings available, which suggests a healthy amount of inventory for shoppers to compare.
If you find a listing below $28,727.76, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2023 Ford Mustang a good car?
Yes — owners rate it 5/5, which points to very strong satisfaction with this model year.
Owners consistently praise the performance, the driving experience, and the styling, and many also call out the sound system and convertible feature as standout positives. The overview also shows why it fits a wide range of buyers: you get a sports car with rear-wheel-drive character and multiple powertrain choices, so you can shop for something more accessible or more performance-focused. With 32.9% of listings priced as good or great deals, you also have a decent chance to find value if you shop carefully.
Is the 2023 Ford Mustang reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a car people feel good about living with, especially when it comes to performance and overall enjoyment. That said, the model-year overview also highlights maintenance-sensitive areas, so reliability depends heavily on how well the previous owner cared for it. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is ending up with a car that has been driven hard or poorly maintained.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Ford Mustang?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should prioritize a history report first, then focus on a pre-purchase inspection that checks for signs of hard use, deferred maintenance, or prior damage. Pay close attention to overall condition, because this model year’s appeal depends heavily on how it was driven and maintained. A clean-looking car is not enough; you want proof that the mechanical and cosmetic condition matches the asking price.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Ford Mustang?
This is a moderate market, so you can buy now if the right car shows up, but selective shoppers still have room to wait for a better deal.
- Deal availability: 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 3,048 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 7.31% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 87.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $28,727.76, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Ford Mustang's resale value?
The current average of $32,802 sits slightly above last year's $30,567.
That upward move suggests the market is still willing to pay for this model year, which can help support resale value if you buy well and keep the car in strong condition. The price trend also shows that demand has remained steady enough to push values higher rather than soften. For a future seller, that means a clean, well-documented Mustang should remain easier to move than a neglected one.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2023 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices are up 7.31% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $37,760, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $32,802 average.
- It adds a more modern interior and upgraded technology.
The bottom line: You should start with the 2023 if you want strong owner satisfaction, solid inventory, and a lower average price. If you care more about newer tech and are willing to pay more, the 2024 is the better upgrade path. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2023 is the smarter first stop because it keeps the Mustang formula intact while leaving more room in your budget.
