Is the 2023 Ford Maverick a good car?

Generally — the 2023 Ford Maverick earns 4.39/5 from owners and 7.33/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the core concept and more about finding one that has been maintained well and not worn hard.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Ford Maverick?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a vehicle history report on any candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on cabin condition, infotainment operation, and signs of hard use, since the interior materials and tech are known weak spots. If you’re shopping a hybrid or an off-road package, make sure the equipment on the truck matches the trim and option list you expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base XL comes with 17-inch Sparkle Silver-painted steel wheels, while XLT gets 17-inch Carbonized Gray aluminum wheels and Lariat gets 18-inch Bright aluminum wheels. The base trim is the most stripped-down, so you should expect fewer visual and comfort upgrades there.
• Powertrain: The Maverick is hybrid-powered by default with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder and electric motor making 191 horsepower and 155 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT and front-wheel drive. The available 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine brings 250 horsepower, an eight-speed automatic, and available all-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Ford’s Co-Pilot 360 suite is standard, including automatic high beams, pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking, and a rear view camera. Available features include adaptive cruise control, lane centering, evasive steering assist, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and hill-descent control.
• Infotainment: The Maverick uses an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, and Bluetooth, wired Apple CarPlay, and wired Android Auto are standard. FordPass Connect can add a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot with a subscription.
• Fuel efficiency: The gas engine is rated at 25 mpg city, 30 highway, and 25 combined, while the hybrid returns 40 city, 33 highway, and 37 combined.

Which 2023 Ford Maverick trim should I buy?

The 2023 Ford Maverick is offered in 3 trim levels: XL, XLT, and Lariat.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the entry point, and it keeps the Maverick affordable while giving you the core hybrid truck formula. It makes the most sense if you want the lowest starting price and can live without the nicer wheels and extra convenience features found higher up.
• XLT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds a more polished wheel setup and serves as the main gateway to the Maverick’s off-road and appearance packages. If you want the sweet spot between price and flexibility, this is the one to focus on.
• Lariat: This is the most upscale Maverick, with 18-inch Bright aluminum wheels, a 6.5-inch driver-information display, push-button start, ambient lighting, and available Luxury Package upgrades such as a wireless charging pad and B&O audio. It suits you best if you want the most comfort and tech the Maverick offers.

Ford’s Co-Pilot 360 safety suite is standard across the lineup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Ford Maverick?

This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 31.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,411 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.29% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 87.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $26,172, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Ford Maverick's resale value?

The current average of $26,343 sits slightly below last year's $28,110.

That softer pricing can help you buy more confidently now, but it also means future sellers may face a more competitive market if prices keep easing. The Maverick’s strong owner satisfaction and efficient reputation should help support demand, especially for well-kept examples with the hybrid powertrain. If you buy at the right price and keep the truck in good condition, you should have a reasonable path to holding value better than a less distinctive compact pickup.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.39/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Ford Maverick safe?

The 2023 Ford Maverick earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, and the IIHS gave it a Superior rating for vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention and Advanced for vehicle-to-pedestrian in daytime.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford’s Co-Pilot 360 suite is standard, so every trim gets automatic high beams, pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking, and a rear view camera. Available upgrades include adaptive cruise control, lane centering, evasive steering assist, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and hill-descent control. The main caveat is that the NHTSA noted rollover resistance and passenger-side frontal crash performance as weak points, and the IIHS gave only a Basic rating for vehicle-to-pedestrian at night.

Should I buy a 2023 Ford Maverick or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 31.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.29% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.39/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The Tremor package adds off-road capability and Trail Control, giving the 2023 a more adventurous edge.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $23,592, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $26,343 average.
• It keeps the Maverick simple with three trims and a strong value focus.

The bottom line: If you want the better shopping environment and the added Tremor-era appeal, the 2023 is the stronger pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2022 remains the more budget-friendly route and still delivers the Maverick’s core value proposition.
