The F-150 Lightning has been so successful and popular that Ford had to temporarily close the order books to give itself breathing room on the production lines. When the books reopened for 2023 orders, the truck featured a higher price and longer range. All trims got a significant price bump: The base Pro trim is up $7,000 to $48,769 (including $1,795 destination), and the top Platinum Extended Range model is up $6,000 to $98,669. Other trims saw increases between $6,000 and $8,500. Ford offers four trims for the 2023 F-150 Lightning: Pro, XLT, Lariat, and Platinum. Buyers may also consider the Rivian R1T or the GMC Hummer EV. The Chevrolet Silverado EV and other electric pickup trucks won’t be far behind. The base Pro model is work-oriented. Though a price increase never feels like a great thing, Ford gave the base standard-range Lightning a 10-mile range boost, bringing the total to 240 miles. The extended-range battery still offers 320 miles for the XLT and Lariat trims, and 300 miles for the Platinum trim. Both battery options come with powerful electric motors. The standard-range configuration comes with 452 horsepower and 775 pound-feet of torque, and the extended-range pack comes with a 580-horsepower motor. Standard-range Lightning models can tow up to 7,700 pounds when equipped with the max trailering package (5,000 pounds without), and the extended-range models can tow up to 10,000 pounds with the trailering package. Ford made sure that every F-150 Lightning model feels deluxe, so even the base Pro model gets a load of high-end tech and comfort features. A 12-inch touchscreen comes standard, running Ford’s excellent Sync 4 infotainment system. The Lariat and top Platinum trims come with a massive 15.5-inch display mounted in a portrait configuration, similar to the setup in the Mustang Mach-E. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, and all trims come with connected navigation that offers real-time traffic and other information. A 12-inch configurable digital gauge cluster is also standard, and Ford says it will add new functionality over time using over-the-air (OTA) updates. The top trims get a phone-as-a-key system, and Ford offers two Bang and Olufsen sound systems in the top two trims. Pickup trucks aren’t always at the forefront when it comes to safety equipment, but Ford includes its Co-Pilot360 tech with every Lightning model. The package comes with automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, forward-collision warnings, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alerts, automatic high beams, a rearview camera, reverse parking sensor, and lane-keeping assist. The Lariat and Platinum trims also get adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane-centering, speed-limit recognition, evasive steering assist, and intersection assist. The Platinum trim adds Ford’s BlueCruise system, which is a hands-free advanced adaptive cruise control system that competes with GM’s SuperCruise and Tesla’s Autopilot.
