How much does the 2023 Ford Escape cost?

Prices have softened 5.95% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 7,750 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.

Is the 2023 Ford Escape a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Ford Escape earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Technology, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its performance, interior comfort, and modern features, and they also call out its spaciousness, smooth handling, and commendable fuel efficiency. On the downside, the expert review notes that the interior materials can feel cheap and that wind noise is a concern.

For you, that means the Escape makes the most sense if you want a stylish, tech-forward compact crossover with an upscale look and an available stronger engine. It is less compelling if value is your top priority, since the pricing sits on the higher end of the segment.

The market still shows 35.6% good or great deals, so there are worthwhile listings if you shop carefully.

Is the 2023 Ford Escape reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a reliable, dependable feel, with praise for its trouble-free ownership experience, practical nature, and the sense that it is a vehicle you can count on over time. The expert review also emphasizes that the Escape’s brakes are predictable and linear, and that its suspension is soft and compliant for everyday driving.

Ford also includes a first scheduled maintenance visit on the house, which helps reduce early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the vehicle’s condition and maintenance history justify its premium pricing.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Ford Escape?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any listing you like, even if it looks clean on paper. Prioritize a careful inspection of the cabin materials, road noise, and overall wear, since those are the areas where this model can feel less premium than its price suggests. It also makes sense to confirm that the features you want are actually present, because equipment can vary meaningfully by trim.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The trim ladder runs from base to Active, ST-Line, ST-Line Select, Platinum, and ST-Line Elite. The base trim starts the lineup, while higher trims add a more upscale look and more equipment; the ST-Line Elite and Platinum also get the larger screen standard.
• Powertrain: The Escape offers a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder with 180 horsepower and 199 pound-feet of torque, plus a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 250 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. The stronger engine is reserved for the ST-Line Select, Platinum, and ST-Line Elite, and it brings noticeably better passing power.
• Safety package: Every trim includes Co-Pilot360, which bundles forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high beams. Co-Pilot360 2.0 adds adaptive cruise control, road sign recognition, lane-centering technology, and a surround-view camera.
• Infotainment: Lower trims come with an 8-inch touchscreen, while all trims can be equipped with a 13.2-inch screen, standard on the Platinum and ST-Line Elite. Sync 4 supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and native navigation, and the interface is organized around easy-to-use tiles.
• Fuel efficiency: The 1.5-liter front-wheel-drive version returns 27 mpg city and 34 mpg highway, while the ST-Line Elite’s 2.0-liter setup is rated at 23 mpg city and 31 mpg highway.

Which 2023 Ford Escape trim should I buy?

The 2023 Ford Escape is offered in 6 trim levels: base, Active, ST-Line, ST-Line Select, Platinum, and ST-Line Elite.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the entry point if you want the lowest starting price, but it is the most stripped-down way to get into the Escape. It makes sense only if you are focused on keeping costs down and are comfortable giving up some of the nicer tech and upscale touches.
• Active: This is the first step up and the most sensible place to start for many shoppers because it adds more everyday appeal without jumping too far in price. It is the trim to consider if you want a balanced mix of value and equipment.
• ST-Line: This trim leans into a sportier appearance and is a good fit if you want the Escape’s style-forward personality without moving all the way to the pricier upper trims. It is a reasonable middle ground if you care about looks and features.
• ST-Line Select: This is the best-value choice if you want the stronger 2.0-liter engine, since that powertrain starts here. It is the trim to target if extra passing power matters most to you.
• Platinum: This trim is aimed at shoppers who want a more upscale feel and the larger 13.2-inch screen standard. It is a good fit if you want a more premium cabin experience.
• ST-Line Elite: This is the most fully equipped version and the one the expert review tested. It suits you best if you want the most technology and the strongest feature set, but it also sits at the top of the price range.

Co-Pilot360 comes standard, while Co-Pilot360 2.0 is the upgraded safety package with adaptive cruise control, road sign recognition, lane-centering, and a surround-view camera.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Ford Escape?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop, compare, and negotiate.

• Deal availability: 35.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 7,750 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.95% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 87.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,516, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Ford Escape's resale value?

The current average of $22,516 sits slightly below last year's $23,940.

That downward movement suggests the Escape is already pricing in some depreciation, which can be helpful if you are buying now but less favorable if you plan to sell soon. For a future seller, the current trend means you should expect the market to remain price-sensitive unless your vehicle is especially well equipped or exceptionally clean. Strong condition and desirable features will matter more when it comes time to list.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Ford Escape safe?

The 2023 Ford Escape earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in frontal- and side-crash tests and four-star ratings in rollover testing. It also received a Marginal result in the IIHS updated side-impact test, while earning Good scores in the rest of the IIHS evaluations.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Every trim comes standard with Co-Pilot360, which includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high beams. Co-Pilot360 2.0 adds adaptive cruise control, road sign recognition, lane-centering technology, and a surround-view camera.

The main safety caveat is the IIHS side-impact result, which is weaker than the rest of the Escape’s crash-test performance.

Should I buy a 2023 Ford Escape or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 35.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.95% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 brings a refreshed look and strong available tech, plus an available 2.0-liter engine for extra passing power.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $22,628, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $22,516 average.
• It carries over with no major changes and appears to drop the base trim.

The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2023 is the smarter buy because it costs less and still delivers the refreshed design, strong tech, and available power upgrade. If you are shopping for a newer model year and do not mind paying a bit more, the 2024 is a reasonable fallback, but it does not add enough to justify the higher average price for most buyers.
