Why it stands out
The 2023 Ford Bronco stands out as one of the most capable off-road vehicles you can buy, while still feeling at home on the highway. It offers a choice of two or four doors across nine distinct models, giving shoppers a wide range of body styles and configurations to fit different needs. Its rugged, stylish design is a big part of the appeal, helping it feel both tough and fashionable.
That combination of personality and capability is what makes the 2023 Bronco especially distinctive. It is built for drivers who want serious trail performance without giving up everyday usability. The tradeoffs are worth noting, though: advanced safety features are not standard, and fuel economy is below average.

Good value but no hard top available for a year or more so I can’t put a roof rack on for my kayak or roof box etc. Didn’t like how the back window can’t open if putting larger things in the trunk. Not practical for my current needs.

How much does the 2023 Ford Bronco cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $41,821 |
| Year-Round Low | $41,821 |
| Year-Round High | $45,742 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $45,739 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −8.57% |
Prices have softened 8.57% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 4,975 listings available, which suggests solid inventory availability for shoppers.
Is the 2023 Ford Bronco a good car?
Generally — the 2023 Ford Bronco earns 4.27/5 from owners and 8.00/10 from our experts. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Form and function.
Owners consistently praise its off-road capability, comfort, and features, and they also like the rugged design and driving experience. The main trade-offs are pricing that can feel high and concerns about fuel efficiency and cargo practicality.
That lines up with the Bronco’s use case: you’re buying it for serious trail ability and everyday usability, not for maximum efficiency or family-SUV polish. With 32.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s a decent amount of market flexibility if you shop carefully.
Is the 2023 Ford Bronco reliable?
Owners rate it 4.27/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in the ways Bronco shoppers care about most: off-road capability, comfort, and features that hold up in regular use. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that it remains comfortable enough for pavement driving while still delivering strong trail performance.
The Bronco’s durability-focused design and rugged engineering support the idea that it’s built for long-term use, especially if you plan to use it as intended. For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about basic dependability and more about how hard the vehicle was driven off-road and how well it was maintained.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Ford Bronco?
Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
You should still run a history report on any Bronco you’re considering, especially if it has been used for trail driving or modified. A pre-purchase inspection matters here because off-road use can affect suspension, tires, underbody components, and alignment even when the truck looks clean on the surface. Focus on overall condition, signs of wear from hard use, and whether the equipment on the truck matches how you plan to use it.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Base trim has a decidedly primitive, bare-bones look with steel wheels and little adornment, while the Raptor sits at the top with a wide stance, elevated height, and huge fender flares. The Heritage trim adds a throwback white grille, roof, and wheels with plaid seat upholstery, and the Heritage Limited trim builds on that theme with more capability.
- Powertrain: You get a 2.3-liter four-cylinder with 300 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque, an optional 2.7-liter V6 with 330 hp and 415 lb-ft, or a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 in the Raptor with 418 hp and 440 lb-ft. The four-cylinder is described as more than adequate, while the V6 can make sense for the heavier four-door model.
- Safety package: All Broncos come standard with forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, hill-start assist, hill-descent control, trailer-sway assist, and Trail Turn Assist. The Mid package adds a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alerts, lane-keep assist, rear parking proximity sensors, and automatic high beams, while the High package adds front parking sensors and a 360-degree camera system and the Luxe package adds adaptive cruise control and evasive steering assist.
- Infotainment: Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, along with Ford’s SYNC 4. Most Broncos come with an eight-inch touchscreen, and a 12-inch display is available.
- Fuel efficiency: The four-cylinder is estimated at up to 20 mpg combined and can drop as low as 17 mpg depending on options. The 2.7-liter V6 is rated between 17 mpg and 18 mpg, and the Raptor is estimated at 15 mpg.
Which 2023 Ford Bronco trim should I buy?
The 2023 Ford Bronco is offered in 9 trim levels: Base, Black Diamond, Heritage, Heritage Limited, Big Bend, Outer Banks, Badlands, Wildtrak, and Raptor.
Here's the short version:
- Base: This is the most affordable way into the Bronco lineup, but it’s also the most stripped-down. It makes sense if you want the Bronco experience at the lowest entry price and plan to add equipment selectively.
- Black Diamond: This is the best-value trim if you want a more balanced Bronco. The cost-effectiveness guidance calls it a good middle ground, and it’s the trim most clearly positioned for shoppers who want capability without jumping to the pricier upper end.
- Heritage: Choose this if the retro look matters most to you. It adds the white grille, roof, and wheels plus plaid seat upholstery, giving you the most distinctive nostalgic styling in the lineup.
- Heritage Limited: This is the more capable version of the Heritage theme, so it suits you if you want the same throwback personality with a step up in capability.
- Big Bend: This trim fits if you want a broader everyday-use Bronco with more comfort than the base model while staying below the more specialized off-road trims.
- Outer Banks: This is a good fit if you want a more polished Bronco with a stronger emphasis on style and road comfort.
- Badlands: This is the trim to target if off-road capability is your priority and you want a more serious trail-focused setup.
- Wildtrak: This suits you if you want a more performance-oriented Bronco setup without going all the way to the Raptor.
- Raptor: This is the top-end choice for maximum power and the most extreme hardware, but it’s overkill for most shoppers.
The safety package note to keep in mind is that the Mid package is not available on the Base trim, and rear parking sensors plus automatic high beams are also unavailable on Base.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Ford Bronco?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage but still need to move quickly on the right truck.
- Deal availability: 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,975 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.57% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 91.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $41,821, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Ford Bronco's resale value?
The current average of $41,821 sits slightly below last year's $45,739.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled enough to give you better entry pricing now than a year ago. For a future seller, that means resale value may be more sensitive to condition, trim desirability, and equipment than to broad market momentum alone.
Because the Bronco still has strong owner satisfaction and clear enthusiast appeal, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than less distinctive SUVs. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.27/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2023 Ford Bronco safe?
The 2023 Ford Bronco earns four-star ratings in frontal crash protection and three-star ratings for rollover protection from NHTSA, and the four-door model earns Good scores from IIHS in all crashworthiness tests except head restraints and seats, where it receives Acceptable.
It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.
All Bronco models come standard with forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, hill-start assist, hill-descent control, trailer-sway assist, and Trail Turn Assist. The Mid package adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, lane-keep assist, rear parking proximity sensors, and automatic high beams, while the High package adds front parking sensors and a 360-degree camera system and the Luxe package adds adaptive cruise control and evasive steering assist.
The main caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard across the lineup, and the crash-test results are only partial from NHTSA. That means you should pay close attention to which package a used Bronco has before you buy.
Should I buy a 2023 Ford Bronco or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 32.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.57% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.27/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It adds Heritage-inspired variants and keeps the Bronco’s strong off-road focus and broad trim range.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $37,821, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $41,821 average.
- It offers serious off-road ability with broad everyday drivability.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $45,410, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $41,821 average.
- It adds a standard 12-inch Sync 4 infotainment system and fresh updates.
The bottom line: you should buy the 2023 if you want the best balance of price movement, inventory, and feature-rich Bronco appeal. If your priority is saving money, the 2022 is the better value play; if you want the newest updates and can pay more, the 2024 is the cleaner upgrade path.
