CarGurus Analysis: 2023 Dodge Durango

Summary
With 292 currently listed for sale near Fort Lauderdale, FL and an average price of $40,095.00, 28.1% of 2023 Dodge Durangos for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Dodge Durango 4.67 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.17 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2023 Dodge Durango stands out by blending SUV practicality with muscle-car attitude. Dodge’s own description of the Durango as “part SUV, part muscle car” fits the vehicle’s personality well, and the model’s long-running third-generation design gives it a familiar shape that has been stretched by added horsepower rather than constant reinvention. For buyers who want a three-row SUV with a more aggressive character than the usual family hauler, that combination is the Durango’s main appeal.
For 2023, the Durango lineup includes the SXT, GT, R/T, Citadel, and SRT 392, and the model gains standard heated front seats, optional forward collision warning on the SXT, and new colors that bring the palette to eight. The biggest headline is the return of the Durango SRT Hellcat with its supercharged V8 engine, now as a regular production model rather than a limited-edition offering. That makes the 2023 Durango especially distinctive for shoppers who want serious performance in an SUV body.
The tradeoff is that the Durango’s strengths come with familiar compromises. Advanced safety features are not standard, and fuel economy is poor with the V8 engines. Even so, the combination of styling, available V8 power, and everyday SUV utility gives the 2023 Dodge Durango a clear identity in a crowded segment.

I am a Durango girl, this is number 2 for me. They get great gas mileage for the get up & go the V6 has. Plenty of room to haul all of my animal foods & plants around. Most comfortable ride I’ve ever experienced. My most favorite vehicle ever!

Great SUV for the money. I like the styling and all the features. Handles well but the ride is a little rough. The RT is throttle responsive for the weight of this vehicle but the city gas mileage is horrible.

Prices are up 6.46% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.
There are 4,314 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of choice in the market.
If you find a listing below $29,837.11, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2023 Dodge Durango a good car?
Yes — the 2023 Dodge Durango earns a 4.67/5 user rating, and its expert rating is 7.17/10.
The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Performance.
Owners consistently praise its styling, powerful performance, and spaciousness. Many also highlight the comfortable ride and the strong gas mileage from the V6.
The trade-offs are familiar: the interior quality can feel lacking in places, especially in the back seat, and depreciation is a concern for some owners. That matters if you want a three-row SUV that feels more distinctive than the usual family hauler, because the Durango leans hard into personality and power rather than maximum polish.
With 34.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2023 Dodge Durango reliable?
Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owners describe it as dependable and trouble-free in the ways that matter most for everyday use, with praise centered on the Durango’s strong ownership experience over time. The expert evaluation also points to a durable, long-running platform that has been extended with updates rather than constant reinvention.
The Durango’s powertrain coverage is also reassuring for used buyers, especially if you’re comparing higher-output versions. Even so, you should still pay close attention to maintenance history and how hard the vehicle was driven, since performance-oriented examples can carry more long-term wear risk.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Dodge Durango?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. A pre-purchase inspection is especially important on higher-mileage or performance-oriented examples, where wear can show up in brakes, tires, and suspension. Focus on overall condition, because the Durango’s value depends heavily on how well it has been maintained and equipped.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base SXT gets the older 8.4-inch touchscreen, wired Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and fewer standard driver-assistance features than higher trims. The Citadel and SRT models move to a 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the Citadel also adds more luxury-focused equipment.
- Powertrain: The lineup starts with a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, then moves to a 5.7-liter Hemi V8, a 6.4-liter Hemi V8, and a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 in the Hellcat. Fuel economy is strongest with the V6 and drops sharply with the V8s.
- Safety package: Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert are standard, but forward collision warning is only standard on the Citadel and optional on other trims. Lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic emergency braking are standard only on the Citadel and not available on the base SXT.
- Infotainment: The SXT and GT use an 8.4-inch touchscreen with wired Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, while the Citadel and SRT models get a 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The larger system also uses the newer Uconnect 5 setup.
- Fuel efficiency: The base V6 with rear-wheel drive is rated at 21 mpg combined. The 5.7-liter V8 is rated at 17 mpg combined, the 6.4-liter V8 at 15 mpg combined, and the supercharged 6.2-liter Hellcat at 13 mpg combined.
Which 2023 Dodge Durango trim should I buy?
The 2023 Dodge Durango is offered in 5 trim levels: SXT, GT, R/T, Citadel, and SRT 392.
Here's the short version:
- SXT: This is the entry point, but it’s also the most stripped-down version in terms of safety tech and infotainment. It makes sense if you want the Durango shape and V6 power at the lowest starting point, but you’ll want to check whether the equipment level fits your needs.
- GT: This is the better everyday pick if you want a more balanced mix of value and features. It keeps the V6 setup but adds more flexibility for appearance and equipment packages, making it the trim most shoppers should compare first.
- R/T: Choose this if you want the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 and the stronger performance character that defines the Durango’s appeal. It’s the right fit if you care more about power and sound than maximum efficiency.
- Citadel: This is the comfort-focused choice, with the most upscale interior treatment and the strongest safety-tech availability. It’s the trim to target if you want the Durango’s space and style with a more premium feel.
- SRT 392: This is the performance-first trim for buyers who want serious speed and track-style hardware in an SUV body. It brings the 6.4-liter V8 and the most aggressive driving character in the standard lineup.
Safety-package availability is uneven across the lineup, so if driver-assistance features matter to you, the Citadel is the trim to prioritize.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Dodge Durango?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.
- Deal availability: 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,314 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 6.46% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 87.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $29,837.11, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Dodge Durango's resale value?
The current average of $33,860 sits slightly above last year's $31,806.
That upward move suggests the market is still willing to pay for this model year, especially when the vehicle is well equipped and in clean condition. For you as a future seller, that means a well-kept Durango should remain easier to move than a neglected one, particularly if it has desirable equipment or a stronger powertrain. The current pricing trend also shows that buyers are still responding to the Durango’s mix of utility and personality.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2023 Dodge Durango safe?
The Durango received top "Good" marks in the original-format moderate front overlap and side tests, as well as the roof strength test. However, it received a "Marginal" score in the driver-side small overlap front test.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave it a four-star overall safety rating. It also earned five-star ratings in the side crash test, four-star ratings in the frontal crash test, and RWD versions received four-star ratings in the rollover test, while AWD models got a three-star rating.
It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.
Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert are standard on all trim levels. Forward collision warning is standard only on the Citadel and optional on other trims, while lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic emergency braking are standard only on the Citadel and not available on the base SXT.
The mixed crash-test results and the limited standard driver-assistance coverage are the main safety caveats to keep in mind if you’re shopping used.
Should I buy a 2023 Dodge Durango or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 34.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices are up 6.46% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2023 model year stands out for the return of the Durango SRT Hellcat as a regular production model.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of current-market availability, owner satisfaction, and the year’s standout performance story, the 2023 is the one to target. If you’re mainly shopping on price, a nearby model year may still make sense, but you’ll want to compare equipment carefully because the 2023’s trim mix and performance options are a big part of its appeal.
