How much does the 2023 BMW X1 cost?

Prices have softened 6.03% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,042 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2023 BMW X1 a good car?

Yes — the 2023 BMW X1 earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Form and function.

The X1 stands out as a small luxury crossover that blends everyday usefulness with a more premium feel than many rivals. It is zippy and fun enough to be engaging on the road, while still offering new capability and plenty of cargo space.

The main trade-offs are that some advanced safety features are not standard, and the features many shoppers are likely to want can push the price up significantly. Even so, the standard all-wheel drive and premium interior materials make it a strong fit if you want something compact, practical, and upscale.

37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.

Is the 2023 BMW X1 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The X1’s appeal comes from its combination of standard all-wheel drive, premium materials, and a driving character that feels more engaging than many compact luxury crossovers. Its updated powertrain and chassis tuning also support the sense that it is built to be both capable and enjoyable over time.

The performance setup includes a 2.0-liter twin-turbo four-cylinder with 241 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, plus an all-new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. BMW also says it has upgraded the Adaptive M Suspension and damping systems for better comfort and stability.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the most desirable equipment can be expensive to add, so you should pay close attention to how a specific example was optioned and maintained.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 BMW X1?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the condition of the drivetrain, electronics, and any added equipment. It also makes sense to compare the car’s actual features against the trim and package content so you know exactly what you are getting.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The X1 feels more refined than the previous generation, with standard LED headlights and taillights, flush door handles, and a premium cabin design. Base examples still leave some desirable equipment to optional packages, so you should check whether the car has the features you want before you commit.
• Powertrain: The 2.0-liter twin-turbo four-cylinder makes 241 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, and it is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. BMW rates it at 25 mpg city and 34 highway, and it can tow up to 3,500 pounds.
• Safety package: Active blind-spot detection is standard and includes exit warning. Standard front-collision warning adds pedestrian and cyclist detection with brake intervention. Active Driving Assistant Professional is available and adds speed limit assist, extended traffic-jam assistant, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control with stop & go.
• Infotainment: The BMW Curved Display combines a 10.7-inch infotainment screen and a 10.25-inch driver information display. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, and Live Cockpit Plus is standard. Live Cockpit Professional adds a full-color head-up display and augmented reality navigation.
• Fuel efficiency: The X1 is rated at 25 mpg city and 34 highway, with 28 combined mpg.

Which 2023 BMW X1 trim should I buy?

The 2023 BMW X1 is offered in 1 trim level: xDrive28i.

Here's the short version:

The xDrive28i: is the only trim, so your decision is really about whether the standard package fits your needs and whether you want to add options. It already gives you the X1’s core strengths: standard all-wheel drive, a premium-feeling cabin, and the lively powertrain that makes this model stand out. If you want the best value, this is also the best-value trim by default because there is no lower rung to step down to.

BMW’s Active Driving Assistant Professional is newly available, and the standard safety setup already includes active blind-spot detection with exit warning plus front-collision warning with pedestrian and cyclist detection.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 BMW X1?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you are patient.

• Deal availability: 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,042 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.03% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 88.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $30,140, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 BMW X1's resale value?

The current average of $30,140 sits slightly below last year's $32,074.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. If you plan to sell later, the current softness means your future resale will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment.

Because the X1 has a premium badge, standard all-wheel drive, and strong utility, well-kept examples should still attract interest from shoppers looking for a compact luxury crossover. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 BMW X1 safe?

The 2023 BMW X1 earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Active blind-spot detection is standard, and it includes exit warning to help alert occupants to approaching hazards when opening the door. Standard front-collision warning also includes pedestrian and cyclist detection with brake intervention.

BMW’s Active Driving Assistant Professional is available and adds speed limit assist, extended traffic-jam assistant, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control with stop & go. A 360-degree camera system is available as part of the Premium Package, and Active Park Distance Control, Back-Up Assistant, and Parking Assistant Plus are also available.

The main caveat is that some advanced safety features are not standard, so you should confirm whether a used example has the driver-assistance equipment you want.

Should I buy a 2023 BMW X1 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 37.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.03% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The all-new, third-generation X1 is zippy and fun enough to be worthy of the distinction, but with new capability and plenty of cargo space, it’s bringing the utility, too.

The bottom line: If you want the newest X1 design, stronger performance, and a compact luxury crossover that feels more premium and more capable, the 2023 is the right path. If you are more price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully and focus on listings near the low end of the range, especially if you are willing to trade some equipment for a better deal.
