How much does the 2023 BMW M4 cost?

Prices have softened 3.91% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 385 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2023 BMW M4 a good car?

Yes — the 2023 BMW M4 earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Technology.

The M4 is built around performance first, with a direct connection to BMW’s motorsport identity and multiple body styles for coupe and convertible shoppers. It also brings serious handling ability and a driver-focused setup that fits enthusiasts who want a modern high-performance BMW.

The trade-offs are clear: the design may be polarizing, and the CSL version is limited in availability. Fuel economy is also poor.

With 31.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 BMW M4 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The M4 is positioned as a modern performance car with BMW polish, and its twin-turbo six-cylinder is presented as a more efficient alternative to the V8 in the older M3. BMW backs it with a four-year, 50,000-mile limited warranty and four years of roadside assistance with unlimited mileage.

The performance focus is strong, but the CSL’s limited production and the car’s high-performance hardware can make long-term ownership more expensive than a mainstream used car.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 BMW M4?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any car you’re considering and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on a performance model with multiple drivetrain and trim configurations. Focus on overall condition, signs of hard use, and whether the equipment matches the listing.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The standard M4 emphasizes performance with a manual transmission and rear-wheel drive, while Competition models add more power and an automatic transmission. The CSL is the most extreme version, with lighter construction and more hardcore hardware, but it also sacrifices everyday usability.
• Powertrain: The standard car uses a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six with 473 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. Competition models raise output to 503 hp and 479 lb-ft, and the CSL increases output to 543 hp while keeping the same torque.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist are part of a Driving Assistance Professional Package on M4 Competition models.
• Infotainment: You get a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, a head-up display, and BMW iDrive 7.0.
• Fuel efficiency: The RWD M4 coupe and M4 Competition coupe are rated at 19 mpg combined. The AWD-only M4 Competition convertible and RWD-only M4 CSL are rated at 18 mpg combined. The M4 Competition coupe’s optional xDrive system drops combined and highway ratings by 1 mpg.

Which 2023 BMW M4 trim should I buy?

The 2023 BMW M4 is offered in 4 trim levels: M4 coupe, M4 Competition coupe, M4 Competition xDrive coupe, and M4 CSL.

Here's the short version:

• M4 coupe: This is the entry point if you want the manual transmission and rear-wheel-drive setup that best matches the car’s enthusiast character. It gives you the core M4 experience without stepping into the pricier Competition or CSL territory.
• M4 Competition coupe: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it adds more power and stronger straight-line performance while staying more attainable than the xDrive and CSL versions.
• M4 Competition xDrive coupe: Choose this if you want the added traction of all-wheel drive and the quickest all-around acceleration in the lineup.
• M4 CSL: This is the most focused version, with more power, less weight, carbon-ceramic brakes, and track-oriented hardware, but it makes the most sense only if you want the rarest and most extreme M4.

The safety package is not fully standard across the lineup, and some driver-assistance features are reserved for the Competition models.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 BMW M4?

This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find opportunities.

• Deal availability: 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 385 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.91% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 86.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $71,555, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 BMW M4's resale value?

The current average of $72,486 sits slightly below last year's $75,439.

That price movement suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more selectively today. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and configuration.

Higher-performance trims and well-kept examples should remain more desirable than neglected cars. Strong presentation and clean history matter even more when the car sits in a niche performance segment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 BMW M4 safe?

The 2023 BMW M4 does not have published crash test ratings from IIHS or NHTSA.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

BMW includes standard lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist are part of a Driving Assistance Professional Package for M4 Competition models, so you may need to step up a trim or option package to get more advanced driver assistance.

Should I buy a 2023 BMW M4 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.91% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 adds the rare M4 CSL, a lighter and more powerful limited edition.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $69,467, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $72,486 average.
• It delivers a nearly perfect blend of power and handling.

The bottom line: If you want the newest version with the CSL halo model and a softer market, the 2023 is the better target. If your priority is saving money and you still want the core M4 experience, the 2022 is the smarter value play.
