How much does the 2023 BMW 3 Series cost?

Prices have softened 7.72% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,887 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of cars to compare.

Is the 2023 BMW 3 Series a good car?

Yes — the 2023 BMW 3 Series earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.7/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Performance, Technology, and Safety.

BMW’s refreshed 3 Series stands out as a more modern take on the brand’s best-selling sports sedan, with sportier styling, an updated driver-oriented cockpit, and technology upgrades. It also keeps the formula that has long made the car appealing, including a quiet cabin and great ride quality.

The trade-offs are worth weighing: a manual transmission is not available, and some interior materials feel cheap. If you want a compact luxury sedan that emphasizes everyday usability with a sporty edge, this year’s 3 Series fits that brief well.

The market shows 34.3% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2023 BMW 3 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

BMW describes the 3 Series as a car that keeps its familiar formula while adding a more current feel, and the expert review reinforces that with notes about its quiet cabin, great ride quality, and driver-focused layout. The powertrain lineup is also broad, with a turbocharged four-cylinder, a plug-in hybrid, and a stronger inline-six available in the model family.

The performance notes point to a car that feels composed and capable in daily driving, with the 330i described as quiet, precise, and proficient. BMW’s tech and convenience features also help the car feel modern and easy to live with.

If you buy used, the main long-term risk is choosing a car that was poorly maintained or lightly equipped relative to your expectations, so a careful inspection matters.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 BMW 3 Series?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a vehicle history report on any car you’re considering, even if it looks clean on the listing page. A pre-purchase inspection is especially important on a luxury sedan like this, since equipment levels can vary and some desirable features were bundled into packages. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior damage, and whether the car has the options you actually want.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 330i, 330e, and M340i each bring a different mix of styling, performance, and equipment. The base 330i gets the refreshed design, standard 18-inch wheels, BMW iDrive 8, and the curved display, while the M340i adds more aggressive exterior details and stronger performance. The 330i is the best-value choice if you want the core experience without paying for extra speed.
• Powertrain: The 330i uses a twin-turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 255 horsepower, the 330e adds electric assist and 22 miles of electric-only range, and the M340i uses a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six. Rear-wheel drive is standard, and xDrive all-wheel drive is available.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes a rear view camera, LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, BMW Assist eCall, Active Guard, and the Active Protection System. The Driving Assistance Package adds active blind spot detection, lane-departure warning, park-distance control, and pedestrian and frontal collision warnings. The Driving Assistance Professional Package adds Extended Traffic Jam Assistance and Active Driving Assistant Pro, while some safety features remain bundled rather than standard.
• Infotainment: BMW iDrive 8 uses a 12.3-inch driver display and a 14.9-inch touchscreen within the 27.2-inch curved display. Wireless device charging is available, and over-the-air updates are standard. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, along with enhanced Bluetooth and USB-C ports.
• Fuel efficiency: The 330i is rated at 25 mpg city and 34 mpg highway, while the 330e returns 75 MPGe combined in electric mode and 28 mpg combined on gas alone. The M340i is rated at 23 mpg city and 31 mpg highway with xDrive.

Which 2023 BMW 3 Series trim should I buy?

The 2023 BMW 3 Series is offered in 3 trim levels: 330i, 330e, M340i.

Here's the short version:

• 330i: This is the best-value trim if you want the refreshed styling, BMW iDrive 8, the curved display, and the core 3 Series driving experience without stretching into pricier versions. It also delivers the strongest balance of price, efficiency, and everyday usability.
• 330e: Choose this one if you want plug-in hybrid capability and the ability to drive up to 22 miles on electric power alone. It makes the most sense if your commute or charging access lets you take advantage of the electric range.
• M340i: This is the performance pick, with the twin-turbo inline-six, stronger acceleration, and more aggressive exterior details. It suits you best if you want the quickest and most athletic version of the lineup.

The safety package is still important to check, since many driver-assistance features are bundled rather than standard.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 BMW 3 Series?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,887 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.72% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 85.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $33,436, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 BMW 3 Series's resale value?

The current average of $33,436 sits slightly below last year's $36,232.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper resale gains if you sell soon. If you buy at or below the current average, you reduce the chance of taking an immediate depreciation hit.

The 3 Series still has strong appeal because it combines premium branding, modern tech, and a broad range of versions. That helps support future demand, especially for well-equipped cars in clean condition.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 BMW 3 Series safe?

The 2023 BMW 3 Series earns five-star ratings from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

BMW includes a rear view camera, LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, BMW Assist eCall, Active Guard, and the Active Protection System as standard equipment. The Driving Assistance Package adds active blind spot detection, lane-departure warning, park-distance control, and pedestrian and frontal collision warnings, while the Driving Assistance Professional Package adds Extended Traffic Jam Assistance and Active Driving Assistant Pro.

One caveat is that BMW charges extra for many driver-assistance features, so used examples can vary a lot in safety equipment. The IIHS had not yet rated the 2023 model in the provided data, and the earlier 2022 model missed the top-tier Plus distinction because of a Poor headlights result.

Should I buy a 2023 BMW 3 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 34.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.72% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• BMW’s 2023 refresh brings the updated cockpit, curved display, and newer tech.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $28,015, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $33,436 average.
• It still emphasizes driving enjoyment and everyday usability.

The bottom line: If you want the newer cabin, updated tech, and stronger market selection, the 2023 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2022 is the smarter value play, especially if you can find one in clean condition with the equipment you want.
