CarGurus Analysis: 2023 Acura MDX
overall

Summary
With 236 currently listed for sale near Chicago, IL and an average price of $39,241, 44.1% of 2023 Acura MDXs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Acura MDX 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.17 / 10.
100.0% of 2023 MDX models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2023 Acura MDX stands out as Acura’s midsize three-row crossover SUV, and its styling is one of its clear strengths. Acura also adds a complimentary three-year subscription to AcuraLink connected services and scheduled maintenance for two years or 24,000 miles, which gives this model year a more appealing ownership package. Its Super Handling All-Wheel Drive is another notable advantage, and the MDX also earns praise for its great safety ratings.
At the same time, the 2023 MDX is not without drawbacks. Its poor fuel economy may matter to shoppers who prioritize efficiency, and its poor ergonomic design can make everyday use less satisfying than it should be. The cramped third-row seat also limits its appeal as a true family hauler. Even so, the 2023 Acura MDX remains a distinctive choice for buyers who want a stylish three-row SUV with strong safety credentials and available all-wheel-drive sophistication.

Amazing experience for an SUV with outstanding handling and performance! The interior is absolutely stunning and has more luxury than any MB or BMW I have ever owned…all this with Acura reliability. The SH-AWD ensures a confident handling experience in all types of weather. ELS sound system is second to none with 25 speakers and 3D surround sound. Couldn’t ask for anything more from an SUV…this coming from a sports sedan diehard who would have never owned an SUV until now….well done Acura!!!

I like the elegant design and great safety rating, and probably reliable. I think this car can hold value. If this package has 360 camera, it will make my decision quicker. I compared it with palasade premium package and volvo xc90. Finally picked MDX because of the smooth purchase experience.

Best car Ive ever owned. Its really amazing, the gas tank however is a on the smaller side a little, but thats totally ok. The speakers on this thing are amazing, and couldnt ask for anything better. Awesome features, awesome ride, awesome appearance. This really is the best car in its market.

How much does the 2023 Acura MDX cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $39,285 |
| Year-Round Low | $39,301.33 |
| Year-Round High | $42,726.53 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $42,728 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −8.06% |
Prices have softened 8.06% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 2,986 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.
If you find a listing below $39,301.33, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2023 Acura MDX a good car?
Yes — the 2023 Acura MDX earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.17/10 expert rating.
The model scores 7/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Cost effectiveness, and Safety.
It stands out as a midsize three-row crossover SUV with a recent redesign, a polished driver-focused character, and styling that helps it feel more distinctive than many rivals. Acura also frames it as a family hauler with an emphasis on driving enjoyment, and the available Super Handling All-Wheel Drive adds to that appeal.
The trade-offs are clear: the expert evaluation calls out poor fuel economy and a cramped third row, and the driving character is less compelling in the Type S than the badge suggests.
With 35.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2023 Acura MDX reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2023 MDX is presented as a recently redesigned SUV with a fresh foundation, and Acura adds complimentary connected services plus scheduled maintenance coverage for the first two years or 24,000 miles. That combination points to a vehicle designed to be easy to live with, especially early in ownership.
The expert evaluation also describes the MDX as a solidly built, modern luxury SUV with appealing design and strong safety credentials. Its performance-oriented Type S variant, however, is less cohesive than it should be, which matters if you plan to buy one for enthusiastic driving.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the most complex versions may be less satisfying if you expect strong efficiency and polished performance.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Acura MDX?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 87% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper history review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the cabin controls, infotainment operation, and how the vehicle drives over rough pavement. You should also pay close attention to tire wear, brake feel, and any signs that the vehicle has been used hard.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The standard MDX comes in a base level of specification with available Technology, A-Spec, and Advance packages, while the MDX Type S is offered in standard spec or with an Advance package. The base setup gets the panoramic sunroof and core luxury features, but higher packages add more equipment and refinement.
- Powertrain: The standard MDX uses a 3.5-liter V6, while the Type S upgrades to a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 with 355 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. The Type S also uses a 10-speed automatic and SH-AWD, but the expert evaluation says the added performance does not come together as cleanly as it should.
- Safety package: Acura Watch includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, adaptive cruise control with low-speed following, and Traffic Jam Assist. Every 2023 MDX also includes blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while certain packages add front and rear parking sensors, low-speed automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system.
- Infotainment: The cabin uses a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a 12.3-inch infotainment display, plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Amazon Alexa Built-In, SiriusXM, native navigation, and AcuraLink connected services. The screen is not touch-sensitive, so you should make sure you are comfortable with the touchpad interface before you buy.
- Fuel efficiency: The Type S averaged 16.9 mpg in expert testing and returned 17 mpg in city driving, with an official combined rating of 19 mpg.
Which 2023 Acura MDX trim should I buy?
The 2023 Acura MDX is offered in 6 trim levels: standard MDX, Technology, A-Spec, Advance, Type S, and Type S Advance.
Here's the short version:
- standard MDX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core MDX experience with the panoramic sunroof and Acura Watch safety tech. It makes sense if you want the model’s style, space, and standard equipment without paying for extras.
- Technology: This trim is the first step up in equipment and is a sensible choice if you want more convenience and luxury content than the base setup. It is the better value than the entry trim if you plan to keep the SUV for a while and want a richer daily experience.
- A-Spec: This is the best-value trim if you want the MDX’s sportier look and a more appealing overall balance. The expert evaluation specifically recommends sticking with the standard MDX with the A-Spec package if you want a fun-to-drive version.
- Advance: This trim adds more upscale features, including the head-up display and additional luxury touches. It suits you if comfort and convenience matter more than chasing the lowest price.
- Type S: This is the performance-oriented version with the turbocharged V6, SH-AWD, adaptive air suspension, and larger brakes. It is for you if you want the most powerful MDX, but the expert evaluation says the package is not as cohesive as it should be.
- Type S Advance: This is the most lavish version, layering luxury features onto the Type S hardware. It makes sense only if you want the top-end equipment and are willing to pay for it.
Certain trim packages add front and rear parking sensors, low-speed automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system, so those features are worth prioritizing if you want the most complete safety setup.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Acura MDX?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market.
- Deal availability: 35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,986 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.06% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 87.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $39,301.33, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Acura MDX's resale value?
The current average of $39,285 sits slightly below last year's $42,728.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled enough to help you buy more selectively today, but it also means future sellers may face a softer resale environment than owners saw a year ago. If you buy well now, you may be able to limit depreciation pressure by choosing a desirable trim and keeping the vehicle in strong condition. The MDX’s broad appeal and safety reputation should help support demand, even if the market remains price-sensitive.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2023 Acura MDX safe?
The 2023 Acura MDX earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Acura Watch is the named driver-assistance suite, and it includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, adaptive cruise control with low-speed following capability, and Traffic Jam Assist. Every 2023 MDX also includes blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while certain trim packages add front and rear parking sensors, low-speed automatic braking, and a surround-view camera system.
One caveat is that NHTSA reported four-star protection ratings for the driver and front passenger in the frontal-impact test. The expert evaluation also notes some false lane-departure alerts and an occasional mistaken collision warning from overhead signage, so you should pay attention to how the driver-assistance systems behave on your test drive.
Should I buy a 2023 Acura MDX or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 35.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 87% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.06% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It adds complimentary AcuraLink connected services and scheduled maintenance coverage.
Consider the 2022 if:
- At $34,630, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $39,285 average.
- It brings a fresh redesign and a more assertive new-generation feel.
Consider the 2024 if:
- At $42,466, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $39,285 average.
- It adds a new Type-S trim level and a more well-rounded luxury focus.
The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, safety reputation, and current-market availability, the 2023 is the strongest all-around pick. If your priority is spending less, the 2022 is the value play; if you want the newer-year upgrade path and are willing to pay more, the 2024 is the alternative to compare.
