Used 2022 Volkswagen Arteon for Sale nearMankato, MN

Is the 2022 Volkswagen Arteon a good car?

The 2022 Volkswagen Arteon earns an 8/10 expert rating, and the model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, and Safety. It stands out as a rare, distinctive family car with eye-catching design, surprising interior room, and useful cargo space, so you get a more expressive alternative to the typical midsize family-car formula. It is especially appealing if you want something comfortable and fun to drive without giving up practicality. The main trade-offs are a quirky transmission, mediocre voice recognition, and a Carefree Coverage plan that could be better. Good and great deals account for 40.4% of listings, which gives you a decent amount of market flexibility.

Is the 2022 Volkswagen Arteon reliable?

The 2022 Volkswagen Arteon is presented as a well-rounded, practical family car with a strong mix of comfort, space, and performance, and its ownership package includes scheduled maintenance for the first two years or 20,000 miles. Its driving hardware is described as capable and engaging, while the automatic transmission can be less intuitive than some shoppers may prefer. The car’s overall character suggests solid everyday dependability, but the quirky transmission and middling voice-recognition setup are the kinds of issues you should evaluate carefully during a test drive. For used buyers, the long-term risk is less about outright weakness and more about whether the car’s more complex systems feel acceptable to you over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Volkswagen Arteon?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free listings are not the same thing as guaranteed trouble-free ownership. Prioritize a thorough inspection of the transmission behavior, infotainment operation, and overall cabin condition, since those are the areas most likely to affect your day-to-day satisfaction. It also makes sense to compare trim equipment closely, because some of the most desirable safety and convenience features are not standard on every version.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SE R-Line comes only with front-wheel drive, while the SEL R-Line and SEL Premium R-Line add standard 4Motion all-wheel drive. The top specification also brings a more premium cabin presentation, and the available panoramic sunroof adds extra light. If you want the best balance of equipment and value, the SEL R-Line is the trim to focus on.
• Powertrain: The 2022 model uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 300 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It is tuned for stronger acceleration and more engaging driving, but the transmission can feel less natural in everyday use.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic post-collision braking. The SEL R-Line and SEL Premium R-Line add Lane Assist, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist.
• Infotainment: The Arteon includes Volkswagen Digital Cockpit Pro with a 10-inch display, plus an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Car-Net connected services, SiriusXM 360L, and navigation. The SEL Premium R-Line adds the optional Harman Kardon audio system and Parking Steering Assistant.
• Fuel efficiency: The official EPA estimate for a 4Motion model is 25 mpg combined, and testing returned 24.5 mpg on the loop.

Which 2022 Volkswagen Arteon trim should I buy?

The 2022 Volkswagen Arteon is offered in 3 trim levels: SE R-Line, SEL R-Line, and SEL Premium R-Line.

Here's the short version:

• SE R-Line: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Arteon’s style, turbocharged power, and core comfort without the added cost of the higher trims. It is the most affordable way to get into the lineup, but it does not include the standard all-wheel-drive setup found higher up.
• SEL R-Line: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds standard 4Motion all-wheel drive and the upgraded driver-assistance features, including Lane Assist, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist. If you want the strongest mix of equipment and everyday usability, this is the one to target.
• SEL Premium R-Line: Choose this if you want the most upscale Arteon experience, including the premium audio upgrade and Parking Steering Assistant. It is the most feature-rich version, but it makes the most sense if you specifically want the extra convenience and audio equipment.

The SEL R-Line and SEL Premium R-Line are the trims that get the adaptive LED headlights with Light Assist automatic high-beam operation, which is tied to the model’s top safety designation.

Is the 2022 Volkswagen Arteon safe?

The 2022 Volkswagen Arteon is a Top Safety Pick from IIHS. It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety features include forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic post-collision braking. Should I buy a 2022 Volkswagen Arteon or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 40.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• It adds a stronger turbocharged engine and more engaging driving character.

Consider the 2021 if:

• It emphasizes upgraded styling, interior finishes, connectivity, and driver assistance.

Consider the 2023 if:

• It offers roomy seating, available all-wheel drive, and an upscale look with better driving dynamics.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the right pick if you want the Arteon’s strongest blend of performance, style, and safety equipment. If you are shopping more carefully on price, the 2021 can still appeal for its upscale presentation, while the 2023 is the better path if you want the newer-year package and can find one at the right price.
