How much does the 2022 Toyota GR86 cost?

Prices are up 2.17% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 331 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2022 Toyota GR86 a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Toyota GR86 earns a 4.86/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Cost effectiveness.

Owners consistently praise the car’s strong performance, good handling, stylish design, and nice interior. The expert review also points to easy-to-use technology and excellent value for money as part of its appeal.

The trade-offs are clear: you give up rear-seat space, and advanced safety features are not standard with the manual transmission. That makes the GR86 best suited to you if you want a compact sports car that prioritizes driving enjoyment over everyday practicality.

Only 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so the best examples may take some searching.

Is the 2022 Toyota GR86 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.86/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback describes the GR86 as enjoyable to drive and highlights its strong performance and good handling, which are the kinds of traits that usually support confidence over time. The expert review also emphasizes the car’s improved chassis rigidity and more planted feel, which reinforces the sense that it was engineered to be durable in use.

Toyota’s maintenance coverage includes two years or 25,000 miles of free scheduled maintenance and roadside assistance, which helps reduce early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about mechanical complexity and more about finding a car that hasn’t been driven hard or neglected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota GR86?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because sports cars are often driven more aggressively than average. A pre-purchase inspection should focus on wear items, signs of track use, and whether the car’s condition matches its mileage. Pay extra attention to the cabin and rear-seat condition, since the model’s limited space can make wear more noticeable.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim gives you the core GR86 experience, while Premium adds a ducktail rear spoiler, 18-inch wheels with grippier tires, leather upholstery, and aluminum pedals. If you want the best value, the Premium trim is the one to compare closely because it adds the most visible upgrades.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.4-liter boxer-four with 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, plus a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic. Toyota quotes 6.1 seconds to 60 mph with the manual and 6.6 seconds with the automatic.
• Safety package: The car uses Subaru’s camera-based EyeSight system, but the driver aids are only available with the automatic transmission. Standard features include automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, pre-collision throttle management, lane-departure warning, sway warning, automatic high beams, and lead-vehicle start alert. Premium adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive headlights.
• Infotainment: You get an 8-inch touchscreen, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless-free smartphone connectivity through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, and SiriusXM satellite radio. The digital cluster also adds track-friendly functions like a lap timer and data traces.
• Fuel efficiency: Toyota estimates 21 mpg combined with the manual and 24 mpg combined with the automatic. The manual is rated at 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway, while the automatic is rated at 20 mpg city and 30 mpg highway.

Which 2022 Toyota GR86 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota GR86 is offered in 2 trim levels: base and Premium.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the simplest way to get the GR86’s core rear-wheel-drive sports-car character, plus the standard infotainment and performance hardware. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and care most about the driving experience itself.
• Premium: This is the better all-around pick if you want the most complete version of the car. It adds the spoiler, larger wheels with grippier tires, leather upholstery, aluminum pedals, and extra safety equipment, so it’s the trim to target if you want the strongest mix of style, grip, and features.

Advanced safety features are not standard with the manual transmission, so check the transmission and trim combination carefully before you buy.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota GR86?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you should shop carefully and move quickly when you find a strong listing.

• Deal availability: 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 331 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 2.17% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 79.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $26,186, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota GR86's resale value?

The current average of $27,908 sits slightly above last year's $27,316.

That upward move suggests the GR86 has held demand well for a used sports coupe. If prices continue to rise, future sellers may benefit from the car’s enthusiast appeal and relatively tight supply of clean examples.

Because the model combines strong owner satisfaction with a focused driving character, it should remain attractive to buyers who want a fun, affordable coupe. That kind of demand can help support resale value over time, especially for well-kept cars with desirable equipment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.86/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota GR86 safe?

The 2022 Toyota GR86 hasn’t been rated by IIHS or NHTSA yet.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes seven airbags, stability control, and traction control. The car also gets a suite of driver aids, but they’re only available with the automatic transmission: automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, pre-collision throttle management, lane-departure warning, sway warning, automatic high beams, and lead-vehicle start alert.

Premium trim adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive headlights. If you’re shopping the manual transmission, the lack of standard advanced safety features is the main caveat to keep in mind.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota GR86 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 79.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices are up 2.17% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.86/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 brings a more powerful engine, added tech, and a sharper chassis than the previous generation.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $29,435, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $27,908 average.
• It adds a more road-connected, enthusiast-focused feel with sharper performance.

The bottom line: If you want the better value and a strong mix of performance, tech, and owner satisfaction, the 2022 is the smarter buy. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer model year and want the same basic formula with a slightly updated presentation, the 2023 is worth a look. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2022 remains the more compelling path.
