How much does the 2022 Toyota GR86 cost?

Prices are up 1.21% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 320 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2022 Toyota GR86 a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 4.9/5 user-rated car with an expert rating of 7.7/10. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Cost effectiveness.

Owners consistently praise the GR86 for being fun to drive, with strong performance, good handling, and a stylish design. The feedback also points to a nice interior and good value for money, which fits the car’s enthusiast-first mission.

The trade-offs are clear: the back seat is cramped, and some safety features are missing compared with competitors. That makes the GR86 best for you if you want a compact sports car that prioritizes driving enjoyment over everyday passenger space.

With 30.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s still a healthy share of attractive pricing in the market.

Is the 2022 Toyota GR86 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback describes the GR86 as enjoyable, strong, and good-handling, with a reputation that leans toward dependable ownership satisfaction. The expert review also emphasizes the car’s straightforward, driver-focused character and notes that the updated package improves the formula without adding unnecessary complexity.

Toyota includes two years or 25,000 miles of free scheduled maintenance and roadside assistance, which helps reduce early ownership costs.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about mechanical drama and more about whether the car was driven hard or neglected, so condition and service history matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota GR86?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a vehicle history report on any car you’re considering, even if the listing looks clean. A pre-purchase inspection is especially important on a sports car like this, because you want to know how the car was maintained and whether it shows signs of hard use. Focus on overall condition, service records, and whether the car’s equipment matches the trim level you expect.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base car gets 17-inch alloy wheels with Michelin Primacy HP tires, while Premium models add 18-inch wheels with grippier Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires, a ducktail rear spoiler, aluminum pedals, and leather upholstery. If you want the best-value trim, the Premium is the one to compare carefully because it adds the most visible upgrades.
• Powertrain: You get a Subaru-sourced boxer-four with Toyota’s D-4S fuel-injection system, and the car is offered with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic with paddle shifters. The 2.4-liter engine makes 228 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, and the broader torque band is a major part of the car’s improved feel.
• Safety package: The car uses Subaru’s camera-based EyeSight system, and the automatic transmission gets automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, pre-collision throttle management, lane-departure warning, sway warning, automatic high beams, and lead-vehicle start alert. Premium models also add blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive headlights, while those advanced driver aids are only available with the automatic transmission.
• Infotainment: You get an 8-inch touchscreen, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless-style smartphone connectivity through Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, Bluetooth, and SiriusXM satellite radio. The digital cluster also adds track-friendly features like a lap timer, data traces, and a digital shift light.
• Fuel efficiency: Toyota estimates 21 mpg combined, 19 mpg city, and 26 mpg highway with the manual transmission, or 24 mpg combined, 20 mpg city, and 30 mpg highway with the automatic.

Which 2022 Toyota GR86 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota GR86 is offered in 2 trim levels: base and Premium.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the simpler, lower-cost way into the GR86 formula, and it still gives you the core rear-wheel-drive sports-car experience, the 8-inch touchscreen, and the 7-inch digital cluster. If you care most about value and want the purest version of the car’s driving character, this is the one to start with.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim if you want the most complete GR86 experience, because it adds 18-inch wheels with grippier tires, a ducktail rear spoiler, aluminum pedals, leather upholstery, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive headlights. It’s the trim to choose if you want the strongest mix of performance feel and everyday equipment.

The safety package is only fully available with the automatic transmission, so that’s an important trim-and-transmission detail to keep in mind.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota GR86?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you should shop carefully and compare listings.

• Deal availability: 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 320 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.21% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 78.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $26,191, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota GR86's resale value?

The current average of $27,288 sits slightly above last year's $26,962.

That upward move suggests the GR86 is holding demand well for a used sports coupe. If you buy carefully and keep the car in good condition, you’re starting from a price point that has already shown some resilience.

For a future seller, that matters because a model with steady pricing is usually easier to move when it’s time to trade or sell. The GR86’s enthusiast appeal also helps support demand, especially for clean examples with desirable equipment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota GR86 safe?

The 2022 Toyota GR86 hasn’t published crash-test ratings yet, so you should lean more heavily on its equipment list and trim details when evaluating safety.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The GR86 uses Subaru’s camera-based EyeSight system, and the automatic transmission gets automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, pre-collision throttle management, lane-departure warning, sway warning, automatic high beams, and lead-vehicle start alert. Premium models also add blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive headlights.

One important caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard with the manual transmission, so if those systems matter to you, you’ll want to pay close attention to the transmission choice.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota GR86 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.21% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 brings a redesigned body, a more powerful 2.4-liter engine, and more tech features.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $28,912, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $27,288 average.
• It sharpens the enthusiast focus with more tactile performance and a more road-connected feel.

The bottom line: If you want the better price-to-feature balance, the 2022 is the smarter starting point. If you’re willing to spend more for the next model year’s added polish and enthusiast appeal, the 2023 is worth a look.

How does the 2022 Toyota GR86 compare to the 2022 Subaru BRZ?

• Cons: Cramped back seat, Advanced safety features are not standard with the manual transmission.

2022 Subaru BRZ:

• Cons: Cramped back seat.

Our experts score the 2022 Toyota GR86 7.7/10 and the 2022 Subaru BRZ 7.7/10. The two cars are extremely close in overall appeal, and both lean hard into fun-to-drive dynamics and easy-to-use tech.
