Is the 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 8/10.

Owners commonly praise its surprising power, excellent ride comfort, and spacious interior, and many also appreciate the all-wheel drive feature for winter driving. In use, it fits buyers who want Corolla familiarity in a crossover shape, with easy-to-use technology and standard advanced safety features. The main trade-offs are fairly pedestrian performance and uncomfortable seats. Even so, it lands as a practical, approachable small SUV in a crowded segment, and 37.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The expert drive notes also support that impression by describing the vehicle as solid and quiet, with a sense of platform solidity that should help it feel durable in everyday use. Toyota’s free scheduled maintenance for two years or 25,000 miles also helps reduce early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright dependability and more about whether the specific vehicle has been maintained well and driven gently.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a careful inspection of the seats, controls, and road manners, since comfort and everyday livability matter a lot in this model. It’s also smart to compare trims closely, because the equipment differences are meaningful.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base L is the most stripped-down version, with 17-inch steel wheels, cloth seats, and a more basic cabin feel, while the LE adds 17-inch alloy wheels and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and the XLE brings 18-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, fog lights, and SofTex leatherette upholstery.
• Powertrain: All versions use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 169 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT; AWD is available, and the system can send 10% to 50% of torque to the rear wheels.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard and includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, traffic-sign recognition, and Lane Tracing Assist automated lane centering. LE adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while XLE adds rear automatic braking and front and rear park assist with automatic braking.
• Infotainment: The L gets a 7-inch touchscreen, while LE and XLE get an 8-inch screen; Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and the XLE adds a 7-inch digital instrument cluster. Wireless charging and a third USB port arrive on the LE, and pushbutton start is standard only on LE and XLE.
• Fuel efficiency: Toyota expects 33 mpg combined with FWD and 30 mpg combined with AWD.

Which 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross is offered in 3 trim levels: L, LE, and XLE.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Corolla Cross formula at the lowest price, but it also feels the most basic inside. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model and can live without the extra convenience features.
• LE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 8-inch touchscreen, wireless charging, a rear USB port, pushbutton start, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. If you want the most balanced mix of price, tech, and safety, this is the one to target.
• XLE: This is the most upscale version, with the 18-inch wheels, LED daytime running lights, fog lights, SofTex upholstery, digital instrument cluster, rear automatic braking, and front and rear park assist with automatic braking. Choose it if you want the most features and are willing to pay for them.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard across the lineup, while LE and XLE add extra driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 37.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 868 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.19% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 82.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $23,173, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross's resale value?

The current average of $23,508 sits slightly below last year's $24,794.

That price movement suggests the market has eased, which can help you as a buyer now but may temper what a future seller can ask in the near term. If prices stay soft, resale values may remain under pressure unless demand strengthens or supply tightens. On the other hand, a model with broad appeal and strong owner satisfaction can still hold buyer interest better than a less popular alternative.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross safe?

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is standard, and it includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, traffic-sign recognition, and Lane Tracing Assist automated lane centering. LE models add blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while XLE models add rear automatic braking and front and rear park assist with automatic braking. Crash-test ratings from NHTSA and IIHS aren’t available yet for this model year, so you should lean more heavily on the standard equipment list and the vehicle’s condition when shopping used.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Corolla Cross or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 37.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.19% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 launch-year model gives you the Corolla Cross’s original formula of Corolla familiarity, available AWD, and standard Toyota Safety Sense 2.0.

The bottom line: If you want the Corolla Cross at a softer price and don’t mind the launch-year tech and safety setup, the 2022 is a sensible pick. If you’re shopping mainly for the newest features, a newer model year may be worth the stretch, but price-sensitive buyers should focus on clean, well-priced 2022 listings and move quickly when they find one.
