Why it stands out
The 2022 Toyota Camry continues to be a top choice in the midsize sedan market, thanks to its blend of reliability, fuel efficiency, and modern styling. With a variety of trims available, including the sporty TRD model, the Camry caters to a wide range of buyers. The TRD variant, in particular, stands out with its 301-horsepower V6 engine and performance-tuned suspension, providing an engaging driving experience. Additionally, the Camry is equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+, ensuring a high level of safety with features like adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistance. I absolutely love the features of my car. The push start, sunroof, heated seats, heated steering wheel, and Apple CarPlay are all fantastic. For the value, the car is a great choice. Being a Toyota, its built to last and is also very fuel-efficient. Both the exterior and interior are incredibly clean, which adds to its appeal. That said, there are a couple of things I wish were different. I’d love if the car had memory seats, and the display screen could be a bit more modern, especially compared to the ones in the Toyota Highlanders. Another small inconvenience is that, unlike the Highlanders where Apple CarPlay connects wirelessly through Bluetooth, my car requires the phone to be plugged in for CarPlay to work. While this isnt a huge issue, it would be more convenient if it were wireless like in the Highlanders. Overall, it’s a really cute car and an amazing choice for a first car. Im really happy with it!

Smooth ride on the highway with great mpg. The shifting is a little hotter than I'm used to but you get used to it pretty quickly. The only thing it's missing is a physical pause/play button. Has all the controls except that one.

Great car. Like the styling on the outside which was a big reason. Most important though is reliability and safety.

If you find a listing below $22,411.55, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2022 Toyota Camry a good car?
Yes — the 4.88/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 7.17/10. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise its reliability, fuel efficiency, and stylish design, and they also value the comfortable interior and overall value for money. The main trade-offs are that some drivers want more power from the four-cylinder engine and more advanced tech features.
That fits the Camry’s role as a practical midsize sedan for commuting and family use, with enough trim variety to suit different priorities. With 31.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Toyota Camry reliable?
Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner feedback also emphasizes reliability, dependability, and a trouble-free ownership experience, with many drivers saying it’s a car they can count on over the long term.
The expert evaluation also describes it as a comfortable, affordable, reliable, safe, and efficient family car. Toyota’s complimentary scheduled maintenance for the first two years of ownership adds a helpful ownership perk.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about core durability and more about choosing a well-kept example with the right equipment and condition.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Camry?
At 72.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in a prior collision. Focus on body alignment, tire wear, brake condition, and whether the electronics and driver-assistance features work as expected.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The TRD stands out with exclusive Cavalry Blue paint, an aerodynamic body kit, matte-black 19-inch wheels, red brake calipers, and red accent details. It also rides on a more aggressive setup than the more comfort-oriented trims.
- Powertrain: The TRD uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 301 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic and front-wheel drive. It delivers strong acceleration and 25 mpg combined EPA fuel economy.
- Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ includes adaptive cruise control and lane-centering assistance. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on the TRD but optional on LE and SE.
- Infotainment: The TRD comes with a standard 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, and SiriusXM. A 9-inch screen is available, but the model does not offer dynamic connected navigation and voice recognition technology.
- Fuel efficiency: The TRD is rated at 25 mpg combined, and the test result came in at 24.8 mpg. Toyota also notes that hybrid versions can deliver more than 50 mpg in combined driving.
Which 2022 Toyota Camry trim should I buy?
The 2022 Toyota Camry is offered in 1 trim level: TRD.
Here's the short version:
The TRD is the clear pick if you want the Camry’s most distinctive personality, with a V6, sport-tuned hardware, and the most aggressive styling in the lineup. It gives you the strongest performance story, but it also comes with a firmer, more specialized setup than a typical daily-driver Camry.
Close with any safety-package trim note from Safety content.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Camry?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,920 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.10% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 72.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $22,411.55, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Toyota Camry's resale value?
The current average of $23,562 sits slightly below last year's $24,315.
That softer pricing can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays soft. For a seller, the key advantage is that the Camry still has broad appeal, especially among shoppers who prioritize reliability and efficiency.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Toyota Camry safe?
It earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and five-star ratings in every single evaluation the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) performs.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is standard and includes adaptive cruise control and lane-centering assistance, which can work together as a hands-on semi-autonomous highway aid. Safety Connect is also standard and includes automatic collision notification, an emergency assistance button, roadside assistance access, and a stolen vehicle locator.
One caveat is that the lane-keeping and adaptive cruise systems can feel overly assertive or occasionally misread road markings, which may add some irritation in everyday driving. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is standard on the TRD, while it is optional on LE and SE.
Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Camry or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 72.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.10% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 adds Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ and a more distinctive TRD-focused personality.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $22,077, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $23,562 average.
- It offers broad powertrain choice and a practical, well-rounded setup.
The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-year shopping position, the 2022 is the better target because pricing has eased and inventory is healthy. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the smarter value play, especially if you find a clean example with the equipment you want.
