You should prioritize a clean history report, then inspect the car closely for signs of prior damage, uneven wear, or deferred maintenance. That softer pricing can help you buy more carefully now, but it also means future resale may depend more on how well you preserve the car. If you keep mileage reasonable and maintain the vehicle consistently, you should be in a better position when it comes time to sell. A clean history and strong condition matter even more when the market is already showing some price pressure.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Avalon or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.81% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $27,660, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $28,220 average.
• It offers a roomy, comfortable cabin with a clear identity in a shrinking sedan segment.

The bottom line: You should start with the 2022 if you want the stronger current-market balance of price, inventory, and owner satisfaction. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 is the better value-first alternative, especially if you find one with a clean history and strong maintenance records.
