Used 2022 Toyota 4Runner for Sale nearState College, PA

How much does the 2022 Toyota 4Runner cost?

Prices have softened 2.28% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,509 listings available, which suggests a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Toyota 4Runner earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.00/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its reliability, comfort, ruggedness, and spacious interior. The 4Runner also stands out for its off-road performance and straightforward, easy-to-use tech.

The trade-offs are clear: you give up refinement, with poor fuel economy, sluggish performance, and an outdated interior. It fits you best if you want a rugged SUV that can handle family duty and still head well off the beaten path.

The market also looks supportive, with 33.6% of listings priced as good or great deals.

Is the 2022 Toyota 4Runner reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to reliability, and the expert review also describes the V6 as reliable. That same review notes the powertrain is dated but dependable enough for the job, especially if you value durability over quick acceleration.

Toyota’s five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty adds another layer of reassurance for used buyers. Even so, you should still budget for the possibility that a truck-based SUV with this much age and off-road hardware may need more careful maintenance than a softer crossover.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota 4Runner?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the SUV has seen trail use or heavy family duty. Focus on wear items, interior condition, and signs that the vehicle has been used hard rather than just driven a lot.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SR5 starts with push-button start, remote keyless entry, a power-sliding rear window, satellite radio, multiple USB ports, a WiFi hotspot, and an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims add features such as heated seats, synthetic leather, a locking rear differential, crawl control, a premium JBL stereo, a surround-view camera system, and more road-oriented or off-road-focused equipment.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 4.0-liter V6 with 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque, paired with a five-speed automatic. It is reliable and decent off the line, but it feels underwhelming in most everyday driving.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense P includes forward automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, parking sensors, and a surround-view camera are not standard.
• Infotainment: The standard setup is an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, Bluetooth, satellite radio, and multiple USB ports. You cannot upgrade to a larger screen, but navigation, HD radio, and a 15-speaker JBL audio system are available.
• Fuel efficiency: The 4Runner returns 16 mpg city and 19 mpg highway, with the same fuel economy for rear-wheel-drive and 4WD versions.

Which 2022 Toyota 4Runner trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota 4Runner is offered in 6 trim levels: SR5, Trail Special Edition, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• SR5: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the core 4Runner experience with standard Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, an 8-inch touchscreen, and Toyota Safety Sense P. It makes the most sense if you want the lowest-cost path into the lineup and do not need extra luxury or off-road hardware.
• Trail Special Edition: This trim adds a unique appearance and adventure-oriented gear, including a cargo basket, sliding rear cargo deck, under-floor storage, and a premium accessory cooler. It suits you if you want a more distinctive 4Runner with practical outdoor-friendly touches.
• TRD Sport: This is the road-oriented choice, with 20-inch wheels, X-REAS performance suspension, sport badging, and synthetic leather upholstery. It is the right pick if you want a more dressed-up feel without moving into the off-road-focused trims.
• TRD Off-Road: This is the best-value trim for buyers who actually want the 4Runner’s rugged side, because it adds 4WD, a locking rear differential, skid plates, crawl control, active traction control, and a terrain management system. If you plan to use the SUV for trails or rough terrain, this is the trim to target.
• TRD Pro: This is the most capable and best-equipped off-road version, with enhanced shock absorbers, a JBL premium stereo, a surround-view camera system, an off-road camera system, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a moonroof. Choose it if you want the most hardware and comfort in one package.
• Limited: This is the most road-focused trim, with leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, parking sensors, dual-zone automatic climate control, and X-REAS sport suspension. It fits you best if you want a more upscale daily driver than a trail-first SUV.

Toyota Safety Sense P is standard, but blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, parking sensors, and the surround-view camera system require higher trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota 4Runner?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully.

• Deal availability: 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,509 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.28% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 80.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $38,208, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?

The current average of $39,347 sits slightly below last year's $40,265.

That modest decline suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you as a buyer today but may slightly soften your position if you plan to resell soon. Even so, the 4Runner’s reputation for durability and strong demand among shoppers who want a rugged SUV should help it hold value better than many mainstream alternatives.

Because the price range has stayed relatively tight, a well-kept example should remain easier to move later than a neglected one. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota 4Runner safe?

The 2022 Toyota 4Runner earns four-star ratings in frontal and side-impact testing, and three-star ratings for rollover testing from NHTSA.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense P includes standard forward automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and a surround-view camera system are not standard, and the TRD Pro adds an off-road camera system.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 33.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.28% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It balances rugged capability with modern infotainment and standard safety tech.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $36,743, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $39,347 average.
• It emphasizes rugged utility and reliability over refinement.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $43,359, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $39,347 average.
• It adds standard blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the sweet spot if you want the current-year mix of rugged capability, modern tech, and a softer price than the 2023. If you are especially price-sensitive, the 2021 can save you money while keeping the same basic formula.
