About 2022 Tesla Model Y
Overview

With the 2022 Tesla Model Y, the American electric vehicle manufacturer expands into a more affordable segment than those its range-topping flagship vehicles occupy. The Model Y’s sleek crossover profile provides a generous 76 cubic feet of cargo space. That figure is spread across the frunk (front trunk) and rear cargo area, accessed via a standard power rear liftgate. The Model Y was introduced for the 2020 model year, and an optional third row was made available in 2021. It carried over into 2022 largely unchanged.
The Model Y can be selected in one of two versions, Long Range or Performance. The Long Range Model Y comes exceptionally well-equipped. It features synthetic leather upholstery, a Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless device charging, heated front and rear seats, power-adjustable front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a panoramic sunroof. The Model Y doesn’t have a conventional instrument panel. Rather, most vehicle functions are baked into the large 15-inch central touch screen. This screen does not support Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.
The Performance model adds 21-inch wheels and an upgraded electric powertrain, but it largely has the same features as the Long Range. Both vehicles can be selected with genuine leather in a two-tone scheme. The Long Range is also available with an optional third-row seat.
Both trims can be selected with the $12,000 FSD package. Described as Full Self-Driving, it has adaptive cruise control combined with lane following and automatic lane-change by using the indicator. The FSD package also includes traffic-sign recognition, self-parking, and a “Smart Summon” feature that self-drives the car to your position.
The Model Y’s battery pack is nestled into the floor and powers motors at the front and rear, creating an all-wheel drive setup. The Long Range can travel up to 315 miles on a single charge and sprint from zero to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds. The Performance version has a range of 303 miles and a zero-to-60 time of 3.5 seconds. This model also has a sportier suspension and upgraded performance brakes. The Model Y is available with an optional tow hitch, giving it a 3,500-pound towing capacity.
The EPA measures EVs in terms of miles per gallon of gasoline equivalent, or MPGe. The Model Y Long Range returns an estimated 122 MPGe, and the Performance returns 111 MPGe. With a Level 2 charger, the Model Y gains 30-40 miles of range per hour. Tesla’s Supercharger network allows it to add up to 160 miles of range in just 15 minutes.
Base MSRP for the 2022 Tesla Model Y is $58,990 for the Long Range. The Model Y Performance starts at $63,990. The Model Y battery pack is backed by an eight-year/120,000-mile powertrain warranty.

Technology is groundbreaking. Fun, not too big but when comparing to my full size SUV it is small. Storage is great. Still happy with the purchase as it will help offset future fuel expense.
