CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Tesla Model S

Summary
With 490 currently listed for sale and an average price of $46,882, 27.8% of 2022 Tesla Model S listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Tesla Model S 4.29 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2022 Tesla Model S stands out as one of the defining electric sedans because it combines long-range capability, advanced technology, and sports car-style acceleration in a package that helped set the standard for modern EVs. Tesla’s approach to the Model S has always been software-driven, and the car’s constant over-the-air updates are part of what keeps it feeling current. For buyers, that means a used 2022 example benefits from the brand’s ongoing focus on software, charging, and driver-assistance improvements rather than relying on a traditional annual redesign cycle.
By 2022, the Model S had already moved well beyond its early minimalist roots and into a more performance-focused, feature-rich phase. The buying guide notes that from 2022 through 2025, Tesla rolled out Autopilot HW4 and continued making OTA updates with a focus on autonomy and FSD. The 2022 Model S also sits in the post-2021 refresh era, which brought an all-new interior with a yoke steering wheel, a premium 22-speaker, 560-watt audio system, adaptive cruise control, a blind spot monitor, and a range of standard comfort features including heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, wireless phone charging, and a glass roof. The available Full Self-Driving Capability package adds self-parking, Smart Summon, and hands-free highway driving, while Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not available at all.
There are tradeoffs, though. The Model S is praised for its speed, technology, and Supercharging network, but some owners point to rear seat space, the practicality of the yoke steering wheel, and the lack of physical dashboard controls as drawbacks. Even so, the 2022 Tesla Model S remains distinctive because it blends futuristic design, strong performance, and a deeply software-centered ownership experience in a way few rivals match.

the model S Tesla is not only a beautiful car, but also a superb auto. I think one of the biggest EV advantages of the Tesla models, is numerous locations of Super Charging Stations, which enable 300 to 600 miles of charge per hour of charge time at only .35 cents per KW hr... and the FSD seems unbelievable amazing & accurate.

The car is not worth the cost. There is no foot room for the back seat rider. Back seat room is too cramped. Interior material is subpar for a luxury car. Yoke stirring wheel is not practical.

How much does the 2022 Tesla Model S cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $46,894 |
| Year-Round Low | $46,400 |
| Year-Round High | $48,899 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $46,656 |
| Change vs. Last Year | +0.51% |
Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.
There are 475 listings available, which gives you a moderate amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2022 Tesla Model S a good car?
Generally — the 4.29/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise the performance and technology, and they also highlight the speed, reliability, and extensive Supercharging network. The futuristic design and advanced features add to the appeal, especially if you want an electric sedan that feels distinctive and software-driven. For you, that makes this a strong fit if you value long-range capability, advanced tech, and sports car-style acceleration in a premium EV package. With 27.6% of listings marked as good or great deals, there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2022 Tesla Model S reliable?
Owners rate it 4.29/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The review summary points to reliability, dependability, and a trouble-free ownership experience as part of what owners appreciate, alongside the car’s long-term appeal and strong charging ecosystem. That said, used buyers should still think about long-term ownership risk in terms of condition, software behavior, and how well the car has been maintained over time.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Tesla Model S?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should prioritize a history report first, then inspect the car’s condition closely so you can confirm the listing matches its background. Pay extra attention to signs of prior damage, uneven wear, or anything that suggests the car has not been cared for consistently. Because this model leans heavily on technology and software, it also makes sense to focus on how everything functions during a test drive and walkthrough.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Tesla Model S?

- Deal availability: 27.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 475 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 83.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $46,400, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Tesla Model S's resale value?
The current average of $46,894 sits slightly above last year's $46,656.
That small increase suggests the market has stayed relatively stable, which is helpful if you plan to sell later. A steady price trend can support resale confidence because it signals that buyers are still willing to pay near current market levels. Strong demand is also helped by the model’s tech-forward appeal and its reputation for performance.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.29/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2022 Tesla Model S or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 27.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.29/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want a used Model S with strong owner satisfaction, stable pricing, and a healthy share of accident-free listings, the 2022 is the primary year to target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can also compare nearby years to see whether a lower asking price outweighs the 2022’s balanced mix of value and market stability.
